  1. I'm sure this has been discussed before, but a search of the boards turned up nothing, so.....

I am considering purchasing the Verizon gift cards, but noticed they are sent electronically. How does this work to move it to my sign and sail card?

    Thanks! :D

  2. How do you even get that much? I am playing all four apps and even though I have cashed in for a few small things I don't think I would be anywhere near that.

I had a lot of time on my hands for a while. My fiance died suddenly and my mother 75 days later....mindlessly playing games was sometimes the only thing getting me through the night. :)

  3. Honestly, they're very easy to use. Go ahead and buy one (I use Hoya) and practice with it a bit before you leave. That way, you can get comfortable with it and it will give you an idea what different shots will look like with and without it. Its truly up to your eye what you like. :)

My former editor at the newspaper thought he was a camera guru...bought all the photographers a cheapo polarizer, slapped his on his camera and never took it off. Never. Then he couldn't figure out why all the shots he took of the basketball team were dark or why every shot he took in the auditorium looked like a dungeon. *face palm*

  4. I've searched the boards for my answer, but all the threads are rather old.

I'm wondering if there are any stores near the Galveston Port to purchase wine? Since we're flying in from Wyoming, there's no way to bring it with us, and our flight gets in at 10 p.m. the night before the cruise.

    Suggestions, advice or directions?

    Thanks!!

  5. Hey Oldfashioned. Welcome to cruising. Don't do the redeye. Don't don't don't in the middle of the winter try to fly in on the day of. Whether it is 8:00am or 1:00pm, you simply have not left enough margin for error. You have a control thing about your luggage? You'll be exhausted with the day of travel anxiety and not able to enjoy the cruise. Just go the day before. And go sit on a beach.

When you get to the pier, give your suitcase to the nice person waiting to make it magically appear in your stateroom. Don't drag it around with you while you are exploring the ship while waiting for your cabin to open.

Thank you! And Go Blue! (my late fiance still holds the record for longest punt at the Rose Bowl from 1981)

I found a flight that comes in the day before, arriving around 10 p.m., giving us plenty of time to get to the closest airport in the middle of winter (Casper, WY) which, in good weather is a 2 hour drive. It doesn't depart until 4 p.m. so we have basically all day to get there. :)

  6. My daughter and I will be taking our first cruise in December, out of Galveston, over New Year's. Common sense tells me New Year's Eve will probably be formal night, but I'm wondering what to expect. I'm up for dressing to the "nines" for the night, but I'm curious what others have experienced as far as dressing, entertainment, etc. with New Year's on a cruise.

    Thanks!

  7. Not the same exactly but a few years ago I found the cutest little skirt on sale. Hot pink ( bright bright color) it's what we use to call an A line but now they call it "skater" style. It's lace and really pretty. Any way I was in my late 40's and my daughter said to me " It's pretty mom but don't you think it's a bit Young for you?" I nearly lost my mind. Who ever said we need to wear dark polyester with long sleeves and and high neck lines at any given point in our lives? I guess next I'll have to cut my hair short and get rid of my 5 inch heels in lieu of flat orthopedic shoes ( also in dark colors:eek:). I'm 50 now but quite honestly other than my metabolism coming to a screeching halt, and a few aches and pains here and there I forget my age. I wear a bikini because that's what I like , I can't stand wet material on my stomach, and I am sure my husband will tell me when and if the time comes that it doesn't look good any more. my eyelids are starting to loosen, and my arms seems to have grown some fat at the arm pit ( where DID that come from?) Bottom line is I am still happy with myself and really don't care if some one else is put off by the shape of my body. It is usually the young people with the tone bodies that are put off by "chicken skin" and I think that has mostly to do with the fact that they think they'll never be "That Person"

*LOL* I'm wondering where that underarm fat came from, too! I did not order it!

I'm self conscious about my upper arms, but only because my dear departed mother decided to tell me one day that I should stop wearing sleeveless dresses/tops because my arms were fat. Its amazing how a mother can make a 50 year old woman feel like she's 6 again!

  8. Daughter and I are taking our first cruise out of Galveston in December.

We're flying into IAH, arriving about 10 p.m. local time the day before the cruise. I have searched, but cannot find any information on whether Carnival will pick up at Houston hotels or if it is airport only.

If it is airport only, I'm envisioning us taking the hotel shuttle from the airport when we arrive and then taking the airport shuttle back to the airport the next morning to get picked up by Carnival! Looking at shuttles from the airport to Galveston it looks like $80 p.p. is the norm, but not finding any that will pick up that late.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks!!

  9. Thanks everyone for your input!

My daughter is still in college drinking mode (*LOL*), but after spending a weekend with her and her friends, this mama realized I am well beyond keeping up with the younger crowd when it comes to alcohol. What used to be a three day weekend of drinking has turned into one wild night and three to recover.

The Irish side of me says "I'll drink you under the table" while the Scottish side of me says "I ain't payin' for it"!

  10. This will be my first cruise, and after reading all these posts, I have to ask, what does a bottle of water cost on board? Coffee? Gatorade? I had looked at the Cheers program and couldn't see how my daughter and I could possibly spend $800 on drinks. Now, however, I'm starting to wonder. Can anyone give me some idea what the individual drinks cost?

  12. I'm a Nikon shooter, so *high five*.

As for me, I'm on vacation. I'm not hauling a boatload of equipment with me (pun intended) on vacation. For one thing, I plan on climbing Myan ruins and at my age, I don't need to be carrying 20 pounds of lenses and assorted goodies with me. I just want some clear, in-focus, higher MP shots as a reminder of my journey.

To that end, I've chosen a *point, pull and pray* Sony (I know, the horror!) DSC-HX 50V/B with a 20.4 MP and 30x optical zoom. I'll be creating a book afterwards, not making Cistine Chapel size prints to hang on my wall, so this little guy ought to get me through without my daughter having to call LifeFlight to helicopter me out of the jungle because I've collapsed from lugging all that equipment around on a blistering hot outing. :)

  13. I'm currently looking at the Sony DSC HX50v/b. As a professional, I really don't want to haul my DSLR and all the lenses around on vacation, but still want to get some good shots. This one has 20.4 megapixels and a 30x optical zoom (you want high optical zoom, not digital zoom). Found it on Amazon for $149.90. The MP will be high enough quality for a photo book after the cruise but the size is going to be small enough for me to take everywhere.
