Celebrity is great.  It's a nice balance between party time on Carnival / Royal Caribbean and the sleepy atmosphere on Viking.  If you want to celebrate a retirement, consider something like a Sky Suite or Aqua class cabin which each come with their own restaurant.  Aqua is usually a lot less expensive than a suite, even the small Sky Suite.  Why leave your money to your grandchildren?

Aqua sounds like something my husband would love.  We usually book a spa balcony on Carnival.  Not leaving money to grandkids 🙂  Their parents make more than we do.....so we are going to enjoy ours!!!  ❤️

We have cruised on Carnival and Celebrity.  Celebrity is definitely a better option if you are looking to relax and have more of an adult style cruise.   I personally would not cruise Carnival again because we are not party animals and find that Carnival was a party vibe.

Thanks.  We are not into the party vibe either.  My husband has worked very hard all his life and is usually in bed by 10.   But he does love a casino 🤣

I am ready for a different experience.   For his retirement cruise, I think it needs to be more of an adult trip.

My husband and I are seasoned cruisers.  We have sailed with Carnival 25+ times.   With that said, I am planning my husbands retirement cruise in 2026 or 2027.  I feel like we need to try a different cruise line.   We were in port next to Celebrity Ascent.....OMG it is beautiful!

We would love to do at least a 10 day cruise for his retirement.

If you have cruised on Carnival and Celebrity, what are the main differences you have found?  Is the dress code "fancier" that Carnival at dinner?  Anything goes on Carnival now.  We actually sat next to a man in a bathing suit in the main dinning room.  Didn't bother me, but I know it would bother some 🙃

    Thanks for your input

  5. I know I can book the trolley tour through our ships excursions for $45 that takes us around the town.  I thought I read somewhere that you could buy tickets once you got to port.  Is that true?  If so, where?   This is our first time to Curacao.  TIA

  6. We just booked the Sunshine for September.  I am wait listed for my time dinning.  When I board the ship is there a location that I can go to and put my request in again?

I know on another cruise line we cruised there was a specific location to go to and have your name put on a list.

I do realize I can go to the buffet.  We have always had the early seating when traveling with my parents and now would like to try something different.

    TIA

  7. My spa reservations are at 3:00 and it is for an hour.   That is why I am concerned.  I do realize that everyone has to participate and I always do.  I just wanted to make sure I am going to get my moneys worth in the spa.  If the safety meeting is at 4, then I don't think I will get my hours worth and I will change the time.  But since they offer the spa services from 3 - 4, you'd think it would be an okay thing.

I am just going to change it to 1:15 to be on the safe side.  Funny thing is, when looking at their sight, they even offer the fire and ice pedicure at 8:30 am the morning we board the ship.......that can not be correct.   I am going to call tomorrow.

  8. We can go safely around town?  That makes me happy!!  I really just like to go to a beach and do a little shopping.   Then back on the ship.  “We paid for the food on the ship, I am not buying food off the ship” - my hubby 😂

  9. Thanks!!  I looked at their website and it says the weight is 260 and that is what he weighs.  Carnival says 250.

So is bermuda a safe place like St. Thomas or St. Martin?

  10. Lots of great info on the Port of Charleston.  This will be our first time cruising out of there.  We actually have never been to Charleston.   I am platinum and have only cruised out of Florida :0   So, your information is great.  Strange to think that I park in one spot and have to be shuttled to the ship.   Let's just hope i have patience.  I will be ready to get on the ship.

You have made me rethink my dining choice.  We usually have assigned dinning time when we travel with my family.  But since it is just the two of us this time, I am thinking about trying the any time dining.  We like to eat early so we can enjoy the shows or movies.

Comparing the two assigned or anytime, does anytime go a little faster?

This will be our first trip on the Sunshine as well.  Headed to Bermuda Sept 28 and doing my research now.  Any advice is great!!

  11. We have never been to Bermuda.  I don't know what to plan.  Normally, when we cruise to a new port we take Carnivals excursions so we  can get the lay of the land.  We will be on the Sunshine spending one night in Bermuda.   I am a little nervous when it comes to trying new things.   I like going to the beaches.  Not much of a snorkeler.  Wanted to do the segway tour but my husband weighs 10 pounds over the limit 🙄.    Carnival has a 3 hour lighthouse/pink sand/shopping tour that doesn't sound bad.  Its funny though, tour starts at 1:45 and itinerary says we are there at 2.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  12. So it looks the same to you as it does me?  The Vista deck plans shows a nice area.  The MG doesn't.  There looks to be a tiny pool are in a corner close to the bar area.  I am calling my PVP in the morning.  I think I am going to swap to a spa balcony.  I just don't want to take any chances.  We have had spa rooms and loved them.

  13. I just booked the October 24, 2020 sailing on the Mardi Gras.  We have three rooms in the Havana area.  After looking at the deck plans it doesn't look like the havana area is as nice as the havana on  the Vista.  Anyone have any thoughts on that?  The Vista had a really nice pool area, lots of chairs, a couple of hot tubs.  I looked at a deck plan from icruise and it doesn't show any of that.  I am concerned and thinking about changing my rooms.   Thanks!!
