  1. The operational reason on the trip we did was that they had not been able to secure a license from the relevant country to operate the submarines in their waters.  It happened a lot on that trip; quite simply a lot of countries will not give permission for submarine use.

    • Thanks 1
  2. We had caviar on the Venture on many occasions, including several nights in the restaurant when we swapped caviar for the appetisers on the menu.

We thought for the main part that the food in the restaurant was excellent, although we also loved sushi in the club.  There was a large group of us who fancied a sushi lunch one day and they were very happy to serve us a fabulous array of sushi in the Restaurant.  We found the crew to be incredible flexible, so if there is something particular or special that you want then just ask.

  3. We were on the Venture cruise at Boca del Toro too.  We did an excellent culinary excursion, visiting an up and coming local chef at his restaurant on a neighbouring island and doing some cooking followed by a delicious lunch.

One other option was a walking tour around the town and there was also a chocolate/coffee tour as well, I think.

  4. For easy onwards travel to Greenwich by train (best option by a long way) you can stay in Covent Garden/Leicester Square area (very central and lots to do), the area around Waterloo (less expensive and some budget premier inn type options but still very central) or London Bridge (very good transport links via the underground from LB station and close to the City and South bank).

With those options you are on the main trainline to Greenwich via Charing Cross, Waterloo East or London Bridge.

The train journey takes about 20mins out to Greenwich.

It is worth spending a little time in Greenwich itself, the Royal Park is very expansive and beautiful and houses the maritime museum and royal observatory and it is here that you can stand with your feet either side of the Greenwich meridian. Also the naval college is amazing - the painted hall is breathtakingly beautiful. The covered market is good, particularly on Sundays, with lots of arts and crafts stalls.

  5. You are very welcome!

There are two main areas in London for Indian Restaurants, the most famous is Brick Lane, which runs just a bit East of the City, in a trendy area behind Spitalfields market.

Also there is a road with a number of Indian restaurants very near Euston station, called Drummond Street.

Pretty much any of the restaurants in those areas will be good!

I will put my thinking cap on about Bloomsbury - I worked there for a few years so used to know the area well!

  6. What do you consider to be good value?

The following are nice places to eat in the local area and you have he usual chains around too (pizza express, Wagamama, all bar one etc).

You will need reservations for most of the following:

The terrace restaurant in the National Theatre serves good food, with nice river views. You don’t need to be seeing something at the theatre to gain entrance.

And ditto for skylon at the royal festival, you can also eat at the bar there for a cheaper option.

It is a while since I have eaten there but this is a nice gastro pub.

This is a Gordon Ramsey local restaurant, which is pretty good, the bar in the basement served fab cocktails too!

    Reservations not necessary:

You will be a 10-15 min walk away but this is a fantastic place to visit - lots of foodie stalls in a market place with fabulous food. Also the large deli would be a nice place to shop for provisions for your room:

And in the other direction next to London Bridge, you have London’s favourite foodie place - borough market. There are food stalls here selling cooked food, with a different part of the market selling fresh foods, meats, cheeses, bread, veg and fruits.

    Etc.

Around the market are loads of fab restaurants and pubs. Definitely worth the walk!

If none of these hit the mark then let me know and I will try and think of some other options. You certainly won’t be short of options in the area but you should also get out a bit further afield, just hop on a bus or pop on the underground and you have the whole of London at your feet!
