  1. very interested in this option for Cozumel. We LOVE the "other side" of the island. favs are coconuts and playa bonita. what tour has anyone taken for this? is it cruise ship sponsored or on the island?

Thanks for the recommendations. I havent heard of the Playa Bonita one, so thank you so much for the tip.

We book our cozumel excursions with cozumel cruise excursions dot net, who we have been using for years and they are a local family business. We dont book with the cruise lines anymore because we dont want to do caravan tours, and never really had that great of a time. Whether you do the bar hope tour or private jeep tour, their guides are really good. I would recommend Gizmo for the bar hop and Israel for the private jeep tour.

Our favorite part of the island is the other side too. Israel said it best, "its like taking a step back in time". I dont know to many places where theres just natural beach front without development. I also recommend, checking out some of their hidden beaches. You have to go off the beaten path for 10 minutes, and its deep into the jungle but the beaches are secluded and beautiful.

  2. We did the private jeep tour with CozumelCruiseExcursions.Net. We had a wonderful time, and planning on do another private tour when we return again on a cruise within the coming months. They are a family tour operator, and is what I love about them. We have been using their services for over a decade now, since we first booked a snorkel tour with them.

The private jeep tour includes your own private jeep and guide. I was surprised to find that our jeep included AC and cooler of beer and water in the back. Our guide was Israel, and he was excellent! Our first stop was snorkeling at a private beach club near the cruise port. Afterwards we decided to have some beers and Israel took over the driving for us. We went to Punta sur park, and the entrance here is included. We climbed the lighthouse, checked out the small mayan ruin and seen a crocodile at the lagoon.

My favorite park was the east coast of the Island, where Israel took us to a blowhole. We got some great video of my husband getting soaked. There are some really nice beaches on the east coast, and without the crowds. Lunch is included at a nice beach restaurant with a great view. The best part is that your able to customize the tour the way you like, and thats what we plan on doing our next trip to Cozumel. We were hoping for some recommendations on nice beach clubs to stop by or other attractions to add to our private tour. I would recommend checking the private jeep tour out. Its only $69 per person. http://cozumelcruiseexcursions.net/cozumel-jeep-tour.html I think its better to book right with the tour operator instead of through the cruise line or broker. They come highly recommended, and make sure to ask for Israel.

  3. Thanks for extra details, glad you had fun.

That seals it for me and I definitely won't be doing that version as I hate being coerced into games. Looking forward to repeating the original Bar Hop in December.

I wouldnt say we were coerced. He didnt force anyone to partake. My husband didnt join in until he wanted to, and was relaxing on the hammocks beforehand. After he got some food in his stomach, he started to play along. My husband said no matter what you do, he recommends Punta Morena Beach club because they have excellent fajitas. Dont know the exact price because it was included, but may be a little pricey because the margarita we got there was $8.

Well I hope you have a great time in Cozumel! Were planning on doing the private jeep tour again because we really enjoyed it more than the bar hop tour, and still includes a cooler of beer ;p

  4. If your looking for the lowest price, I seen the Cozumel all-inclusive day pass for $50 for the Occidental at http://cozumelcruiseexcursions.net/cozumel-day-pass.html

I have to try the floating mat idea, it does sound comfy! I never did an all-inclusive day pass in Cozumel before. Is the Occidental the best one? I seen people recommend Mr. Sanchos a lot. We have an upcoming cruise, and are planning on doing a private jeep tour again, which includes a private beach club, but since we can customize the tour, we were thinking about checking out some other beach clubs or similar places. Last time they took us to Uvas beach to snorkel, Punta Sur Park and then to Punta Morena for our included lunch. Any other beach clubs in Cozumel we should check out on our next cruise to Cozumel?

  5. Would anyone recommend the Cozumel Bar Hop Bus Tour for one person? Husband and I will be on a cruise that stops there in December, but he'll likely have an activity going on onboard that day. I've been to Cozumel multiple times but never done the bar hop. I'm a little shy, but once I have a drink I turn chatty. Not sure if I'd likely find people to hang with or just be bored? I guess I'm asking if people mingled on the tour or did everyone stick to their group?

I would recommend the bar hop tour, because the people we were with were lots of fun to be around. But our tour guide was the one who really broke the ice and got everyone to have fun together. They play games that gets everyone involved, and my husband, who is also a little shy joined in after a few drinks. Its a very interactive tour, and think you will really enjoy it. But make sure you ask for Gizmo, he was lots of fun and very entertaining. He even got on the Mayan drums, and was really great. We got a great video of us dancing to the beat.

  6. We were also a family of 4, and the jeep was four doors so there was plenty of room for our family plus our guide. You can do what we were told to do, and request the four door jeep with AC when you make your reservation with them. The communication with them is great, and Im sure they would answer any questions you have quickly, as their replies to our inquiries were prompt.

  7. Welcome to CC, seven posts in less than an hour - that's quite an impressive start!

This is only the second review I have ever read on CC for this tour. The website description seems to have remained the same since the previous poster so I am interested to hear if you followed the outline on that description, unlike them? Do you know the names of the places you visited? I am a regular traveler to Cozumel and would book a tour based on where I wanted to go. In particular, where did you have lunch because the first poster did not get lunch at Punta Morena, as indicated.

My second question involves the meeting point for the tour. Which pier were you at and did you have to go far to meet the tour? Is this Hop always for a private group? I see children under 4 are free, but no child price is indicated?

The website also indicates "cooler of beer, not just a free shot at each bar". Did you only get the cooler of beers to drink between bars and buy your own drinks when you got to the different locations?

Whilst it sounds like an interesting alternative to a private, non-customized tour round the island, I can't help thinking the reference to "bar hopping" is just a clever marketing ploy playing on the success of the original Bar Hop tour. Apart from the name there appears to be little else in common. My #1 concern would be that when I book a tour I want it to go where it says it is going, unless there are some particular circumstances explained to me on the day or by email.

Thanks, I enjoy sharing my experiences and forgot how fun it was to interacting on here. I had an account once before but forgot my password and closed the email account it was attached to.

The bar hop tour wasn't private and there were other people with us. They do provide a private tour that we did the year before. If memory serves me right, we stopped at punta morena to have lunch. There was a swimming pool and hammocks. As far as the other places, I don't remember the names. I'm sure there listed on their website. I'm pretty sure we did everything in the order it was listed, because if we wanted to snorkel we couldn't drink and snorkeling was the first stop.

The one place was a little hut that served coconuts, and we all got a free shot there. Well, we got free shots at all the places we stopped and the one place gave several. The cooler of beer was a Mexican version of miller lite, and wasn't bad. We would then buy drinks from the bars at a discount.

It's a family business and was one of the main reasons we booked with them 11 years ago when we did their snorkel tour. I don't believe there were any bar hop tours operating then.

We really enjoyed the bar hop, but leaning towards the private jeep tour when we return. Sorry for the delayed in response. I seldom find the time to blog, and when I do it's late at night when I can't sleep.

  8. Our family really enjoyed the East Coast of the island because its pretty much like taking a step back in time and not overcrowded like most beach clubs. Punta Sur Park has a great beach that is good for kids, because it is shallow and no waves. The East coast, called the other side of Cozumel has waves and I read that they can get harsh on bad days. The times we went they weren't bad, and got to swim.

  9. We did the Private Jeep Tour with http://cozumelcruiseexcursions.net a year ago and it was the highlight of our entire trip. First off they give you a cooler of beer and water in the jeep. We had a jeep that was automatic and had AC too. Our guide was Israel, and he was beyond entertaining and knowledgable. He answered all of our questions and then some.

The meeting point was only a couple minute walk from our cruise ship. Israel pulled out a map and went through the entire thing explaining the best things to do in Cozumel, and explaining that they have a custom itinerary of places they recommend. It was pretty much the everything we wanted to do, but switched the tequila tour for the chocolate factory for the kids. Our first stop was at a private beach club where we went snorkeling. We have snorkeled from a boat with them before, so we didn't expect much but we were shocked to see so much sea life snorkeling from the shore. Israel would dive down and point out the sea creatures and take photos for us with our GoPro.

Next we were off to Punta Sur Park which is included in the tour as well. Israel asked us if we wanted to relax and allow him to drive. So we did and got to enjoy the cooler of beer on the ride to Punta Sur eco park. The climb to the top of the lighthouse is a little hectic, but well worth it. The view from the top is stunning! The mayan ruin was small but had a interesting use for the mayans. Seen some crocs in the lagoon, and even seen one along side the road driving down to the tip of the island to the beach. We relaxed on the hammocks and continued to enjoy our free beer, and the kids enjoyed the beach. The water is very shallow here because of the bay, so there are no waves and perfect for younger children to swim.

We then drove along the East cost of the island, known to locals at the other side of Cozumel. It was taking a step back in time because there is no development or electricity. The beaches here were breathtaking. Israel pulled over on the side of the road and we couldnt see anything but jungle. There was a small path where we discovered rock formations, and their were two blow holes. We got some great photos and videos of the kids jumping in and out of the geysers. We traveled onto other rock formations.

We had a nice Mexican lunch at a beach club that had a swing bar, hammocks and really nice beach. The lunch is included, and we had the choice of steak, chicken and I think fish fajitas. I got the chicken and my husband had the steak. The kids got chicken quesadillas. Probably the best Mexican food we have ever had. Our last stop was the chocolate factory and by that time we were all exhausted.

We even did their bar hop tour this yeas because we didn't come with the kids, and had lots of fun. Our guide was Gizmo, and he was a blast.

I highly recommend their private jeep tour in Cozumel Mexico! You can customize your tour which is great. You can get more information about the things you can include on their website. http://cozumelcruiseexcursions.net/cozumel-jeep-tour.html

  10. If your looking for the best beaches in Cozumel, you will find them on the East Coast of Cozumel also known as the other side of Cozumel. If your looking for shallow waters that do not have waves, your best bet is at Punta Sir Eco Park, because it is protected by the bay the wraps around. The water is about 2 feet for half a mile out, and is absolutely gorgeous. We stopped here last year on a private jeep tour, and it was perfect for the kids.

If you continue along the other side of Cozumel, you will see lots of secluded beaches that are free from development. Its like taking a step back in time. You can pick a beautiful deserted spot on the beach and have the entire thing to yourself. We read that the waves can be harsh on windy days. The day we were there, they were somewhat calm. I personally like that the beaches are all natural, and not over crowded.

  11. We just got back, and had the opportunity to do the Bar hop tour with http://cozumelcruiseexcursions.net and had a great time.

We decided to do the bar hop in Cozumel with them because they included so much more and it cost less. We have a cooler of beer and water in the van. We even had the option to snorkel at the first location before getting our drink on. We decided to do this and glad we did because it was lots of fun. Our guide Gizmo, was loads of fun and very entertaining.

They also include lunch at a nice beach club on the East Coast of Cozumel, which they call the other side of Cozumel. We had a choice of steak or chicken fajitas, and I think they had one or two more options like shrimp or fish. The stops were lots of fun, and included the free drinks. They even gave us seconds and thirds.

We did their private jeep tour the year before, which is very similar, and includes more stops. We even had an automatic jeep with AC, which we didn't expect. Our guide was Israel, and recommend him if you are looking at doing their private tour. The tours are kind of the same because it also includes a cooler of beer in the jeep, and Israel drove us because we wanted to relax and sip on some beers. I guess the only difference is that their private tour you get to customize and change their itinerary if you want. Also it includes entrance into Punta Sur Park, which was one our favorite stops. But the private cozumel jeep tour is a little more expensive, and believe it cost $69 per person, but was still cheaper than the other jeep tours.

So yea the bar hop tour with cozumelcruiseexcursions.net was lots of fun, and highly recommend it. But would also recommend taking a look at their custom private cozumel jeep tour too.
