My bro in law refuses to get vaccinated and won't wear a mask.  He is married to my sister, who is extremely frustrated at him, since she is an infectious disease specialist doctor!  😮

They were both going to come up to visit us for a week, flying up to stay with us while we did Maine this summer.  They would have been flying...he cancelled due to won't wear a mask which is mandatory on a flight or in the terminal.

Can't say I am a fan of her second husband.  Kind of happy she is coming up by herself.  😉

John will wear a mask when required. We flew to Vegas last Nov and had to wear masks then. He thinks the vaccines were pushed through too quickly. Perhaps they were, but they were also needed quickly. Anyway, he will be stubborn as a mule if I push him. I just keep making sure he is aware of latest news, etc and I know he will change his mind if I let him think it was his idea in the first place! 😉

Talking about the vaccinated and not, this afternoon I saw a woman in Publix flashing something under her sweatshirt. First I thought uh oh, but it was a T shirt that said "Don't Get Vaccinated". Everytime anyone would pass her, she would flash open her sweatshirt and display her t shirt right in thier face. 🥴

Personally, I think everyone should be allowed to make their own choice about the vaccine. I am vaccinated, John isn’t. Most people have reason for their decision. I don’t agree with all of John’s reasons, and I wish he would get the vaccine. But he will, in his own time when he feels better about it. Me yelling at him to get it will never work. And him yelling at me to not get it, wouldn’t have worked either.

  3. We are booked for our 1st B2B on Oasis in Nov. Funny enough, we will probably cancel. Our dog has cancer & kidney disease. I doubt we will still have her then, but we will have a puppy. It just doesn’t look like a good time to be away.

Due to the cancelled cruises DH hasn’t taken any time off from work. He was informed last week that he is over the limit on earned vacation and he MUST take days! 3 & 4 day weekends for awhile!

  4. DH and I have (temporarily) lost the desire to cruise. We took the $ refunded from our Nov cruise and went to Las Vegas. It was the first time we’d been there and we spent most days in the National parks. We also had reservations at fine dining restaurants. Had to wear face masks everywhere in Vegas, but not when we were hiking in the desert.

Now we are waiting to see if our March cruise will be canceled. We had just made the final payment when other cruise lines canceled through the end of March. If it is, we will use the $ to fly to Missouri later in the summer where we will be picking up a puppy.

We are scheduled for Allure on the 29th of November and looking at travel advisories from the Department of State, Honduras is a DO NO GO THERE, while Mexico is basically, GO ONLY IF YOU HAVE TO.  Both very discouraging.

We are booked to be on Allure Nov 15. I am willing to wear a mask to get on board, but my DH is not happy about that. Our adult son said he is willing to sacrifice the time to go with me! 😜

If cancelled, we will be disappointed but okay. I really hope to go, though.

We were booked on allure transatlantic 1st November which has been cancelled , so I’m not sure if she will sail empty or wait and see if cruises can sail in USA

Our sailing is the very next one after transatlantic. If that is already canceled ours will probably be also. 😢

Well, some good and bad news from my original post. We finally got our RCI refund...after 3 months. The bad news. My wife's favorite cat died suddenly of liver failure. Then she got clipped by a hit and run driver turning into the subdivision. Only the car was damaged, the wife is fine. The other driver crossed over a double yellow line at a high rate of speed. We do know the other vehicle was blue from the paint left behind. I think we will buy 10 lottery tickets and hope for the best.

    We need a cruise!

I’m so sorry about your cat! We lost a beloved dog to kidney failure last Dec. We didn’t even know she had kidney disease until November.

  8. We are also having a hard time dealing with continued pandemic restrictions, canceled cruises, social unrest. We spent many years saving money, doing without extras so we could enjoy the lifestyle we now have. I am aware how very lucky we are. But it’s still hard dealing with so much change and restrictions. I’m retired and DH works from home. You would think we see enough of each other, but he actually works 10+ hrs a day, 6 days a week. When we are on a cruise we are totally focused on each other. This is important time for us. Yes, we may need to find an alternative; but we don’t want to.

We were on the Adventure which had the tiered seating- never used it.  It was all in the sun and hot and uncomfortable.  Glad that they are improving the area of those ships with a true suite lounge and outside seating area- hope it includes a hot tub  and cabanas like the Harmony of the seas.  Otherwise IMO useless.

It’s a much smaller area on Freedom, no hot tub or cabanas. I thought it was still very nice. Comfy seats and tables, some in shade, some in sun. I actually took a nap out there one day.

That area really isn't conducive to sunbathing😉

Very true! I think I misunderstood the question. I forgot about the tiered area as we found it too hot and preferred the Solarium or our own balcony on the preAmped Freedom.

  10. I am really hoping we will be on our Nov sailing. I am anxious to see what protocols the cruise industry puts in place when they reopen. They are extremely invested in having a safe way to restart cruising.
That doesn’t mean I don’t understand how serious this virus is. Looking forward to getting back to a favorite part of life doesn’t make me reckless or uncaring. We have followed the guidelines, including not seeing our granddaughter for months, and will continue to do everything we can to help stop the spread.

Then our Grandeur June cruise was altered to come to Florida/Bahamas instead of NE/Canada...cancelled that one.
What a shame! We did that itinerary on Grandeur and it was one of our favorite trips.

The trip that will really break our hearts to lose is the month in Alaska we had planned for August, including B2B Radiance to celebrate Bucky's milestone birthday.

Hopefully, things will begin to settle down by then. I don’t know if we will be back to “normal” but this can’t last forever.

I am so sorry to hear about your cousin..and not being able to attend the funeral as well.  Hope this world will get back to normal soon.  Take care, be safe my friend.

Thanks! Last night we found out my cousin is sick with the corvid19 virus. That really brought it home to me. She lives in Massachusetts. And I think it made John realize how serious the situation is. He had been rolling his eyes when I wore a mask and gloves to go out. This morning I have to go to the bank, grocery store & the printer to pick up blueprints (construction is considered essential) and John set out gloves and mask for me.

Will you be staying in Florida this summer, or will you try to head north?

  13. My DH works from home anyway, except when he needs to travel to a job site. Since I retired I help him with his work.  No more travel, but he still is pretty busy. I used to pick my DGD up after school sometimes, attend a women’s Bible study every Tuesday, and my best friend and I took turns visiting each other’s home to work on crafts. Lately, I just clean the house, help John, read and play games on my iPad.

we live in a pretty area so I take walks when the weather cooperates. I was taking the dog with me but she decided she didn’t like walking!

I’m happy we have sites like CC. I really miss being out with people, so it’s nice to be able to chat with you all.
Sadly, my cousin died earlier this week, not from the virus. My family usually turns out big time for weddings & funerals. Not this time, only immediate family allowed.
