  1. My sister, brother-in-law and I recently sailed on the NCL Jade to the Southern Caribbean. When we visited Grand Cayman, we took a tour on the Jolly Trolley, which we really enjoyed. But what impressed us the most was something that happened during the tour. We were seated in the back of the open air trolley, and were headed back to the ship. A sudden gust of wind whipped my sister's favorite hat off her head and before we could even react, it was being tossed further and further down the street. Resigned to losing the hat and going without for the rest of the cruise, imagine her surprise when a car pulled up next to us and a young man handed her hat to my brother-in-law!!! This young man and his friend who was driving had seen what happened and took it upon themselves to rescue her hat, then wait for oncoming traffic to stop in order to get it back to us. They then dropped back behind the trolley. Wishing to express our gratitude, my brother-in-law pulled out a $20 and held it out so they could see it and pick it up. Instead, they rolled their window up and saluted as they passed The trolley. This act of kindness was amazing given the circumstances, and so very unexpected. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip

  3. I haven't changed anything between viewing your earlier photos which I could view and this last set I can't see, so guess I'll just follow your trip sans photos for now and hope something changes or someone comes up with suggestion for fixing whatever my problem might be. I even uploaded Flickr to see if that made a difference.

Yeah!!!!!! Photos now visible after 3 days of nothing! Haven't changed anything, so not sure what caused my "glitch" but definitely glad it's disappeared 😁

  5. Oh no! Thank you for letting me know. I post all of my photos using a link from Flikr, so I just went onto that site to see what's happening and it looks like their site is down. This happened a few weeks ago too and delayed me from uploading that morning's post, but I didn't realize it also messes up the photos I already posted. Hopefully Flikr will get their act together soon! When I look at my review, I see all of my photos like normal, so can you check back in a few hours and see if it works again? Thanks :)

Just checked and I still can't see new photos although up until this last set, I've had no problems.

  6. I've been following your adventures and have loved seeing the gorgeous photos as this may be as close to these islands as I'll ever get. But suddenly as I was going through your last entry, I was no longer able to see photos! The last ones that came through are of you with the "feeder" and then all I see are broken photo icons. Any ideas on what might be happening or how to fix?

  7. We used Premier Cruise Parking. Great experience! half the cost of the port. the address is 1415 Northeast 2nd Ave. Miami. If a 10 min trip to port. It is at the top of the parking garage. They park you then shuttle you to port. Promptly pick you up when you disembark.

You just have to make sure that you contact the correct Premier. There seems to be a couple of lots with the same name.

I've made reservations at this location for our 10 day cruise in late January, but from their website, was not aware that they only had top of garage. Is there no covered parking available? Don't really want car sitting in Sun for 10 days.

  8. I've sailed twice to Alaska, once on a small ship that got into places other ships couldn't, and second time was on RCCL. Before my first trip, I read Michener's Alaska and that made me appreciate what I was seeing even more. First trip was 14 day and 2nd was 7 day, both round trips out of Vancouver. The wildlife we saw was fantastic and scenery spectacular, especially Glacier Bay. Most of both cruises was spent on deck to ensure I wasn't missing something. Now that I'm retired and have time to cruise, Alaska is on my list for a third visit and I think I'd opt for another small ship! And based on the excursions I took, would highly recommend float plane out of Juneau. Once you pop up over the mountains, all you can see are glaciers...it's breathtaking and awe-inspiring.

  9. Shirley Jones was also on SS Norway either 85 or 86 ran into her on top deck and was able to talk to her a bit , she was with her son Shaun and his family, have taken about 50 cruises since
My mom had purchased a tee-shirt in Juneau that had 4 pink rabbits and one gray, with caption "Oh no, not another gray hare!!!" She happened to wear it the day Shirley did her Q&A. Apparent it had caught Shirley's eye during that time as she sought my mom out that afternoon on deck and they chatted for almost 30 minutes! Luckily I had my camera with me when I came upon them and managed to get some shots of the two of them. If I remember correctly, Robert Merrill was the first artist for the last cruise in September.

  10. My first cruise was a 2 week Alaska adventure on World Explorer Cruises' S.S. Universe in 1987 with my mom. The ship was a floating university except during summers when it from passengers to Alaska so no casino, no shops, but fantastic staff . Ship was very small, so we got into places in the Inland Passage most ships couldn't get near. We had 4 specialists on board to talk to us about wildlife we were seeing, the culture and history of each port, etc. Each night we were treated to fantastic entertainment, including a slide show of Eskimo life photographed by a bush pilot accompanied by the original songs presented by the teacher he flew from village to village. Towards the end of the cruise, Shirley Jones came aboard to entertain us. After a Q&A session, she spent time on deck talking to many of us. Have photo of her and my mom in my album! After this cruise, it's been hard adjusting to larger ships where you're just one of the crowd, but it definitely sparked an interest in cruising vacations. Now that I'm retired, hopefully I can indulge more often [emoji3]

  11. We will be 3 adults in the 2 bdrm suite on Jade in Jan 2018. Thus gives 2 of us the UBP. Does 3rd person have to purchase this as well ( not a drinker so a real waste of $$ )? I've seen conflicting info on NCL site.

  12. When we were on the Jade a couple weeks ago, we thought the crew was fantastic-- except for one of the restaurant hostess'. We had a run in with her 3 nights straight. When we complained it was apparent we weren't the only pax having issues with her. They made it up to us with a few free bottles of wine and champagne. But we didn't let her ruin our trip.

As far as the bus breaking down, these things will happen from time to time. Don't let it discourage you. And also, always bring bottle water with you. It was around 80 degrees and 90% humidity when we went, so you never want to be without water. We always bring bottle water on shore excursions. Some tour operators have water, others don't. Better just to have some.

    Have a great vacation!

Are you able to take bottle(s) of water off the ship or do you have to buy ashore before tour starts?
