  1. So I stated per Smokeater55

    Aloanldy,

We talked to the land part of X and they did not offer any hope of us using any credit for the Denali Natural History Tour for an upgrade to the Kantishna Experience. We did not want to risk waiting till we meet with the guy in Anchorage and run the risk that day would be booked up. Friends had done the whole road and assured us it was worth it. I know you can save with the shuttle and they do talk about what is going on just like the tour bus. BUT, we read also that the shuttle does have to keep on schedule and the tour can stop when critters are found so we decided to blow the big bucks at take the whole enchilada.

Also, they pick you up and drop you off at the Village; don't have to mess with the Village shuttle bus mismatching. We go early.

And the tour buses don't have to keep a schedule? Sorry, what you are repeating is totally inaccurate and a disservice to facts.

Both, shuttle and tour buses stop multiple times for wildlife. Plenty of viewing opportunities with shuttle buses, PLUS the benefit of getting farther into the park compared to the TWT and NHT, at an extremely low cost. Can be huge benefits for some.

Ok BudgetQueen, I'm not making stuff up. I admit I've not gone yet so I'm depending on the web content of the contractor that is running the bus, Doyon, Limited Aramark:

Go to Tours & Shuttles, Pick Shuttles, Kantishna, and open the tab for Boarding Transit Shuttle: and I'll find

"While Transit buses often stop for photographs and to view park wildlife and scenery, the Transit system is a scheduled service and drivers are required to stay on schedule. "

Now if you have first hand info that on a trip you took you did not have a problem, swell. I'm just pointing out fact as documented.

    Have a blessed day.

  3. So I need a CPAP and was going to bring an extensioncord and multi strip to get ac power on the other side of the room; also powersome items like phones and cameras. Ihad read a thread some guy did about having cords and charging bricks confiscatedby security in Vancouver! So I calledthe "special needs" number to ask about what to do for the CPAP. Celebrity indeed told me I could not usemulti strips, multi outlets cubes or extension cords BUT they would be so kindas to provide me "special" extension cords and distilled water.

Youcan also use the little converter things that change the euro pin outlet to USso you will have us of the

  4. Awesome always enthusiastic! I will most likely jump out of the raft also :).

I did get over nighted at Denali Park Villiage. Really looking forward to it. Someone told me that there aren't any restaurants that are in walking distance from the Villiage. Which is ok I think I'll be fine with just eating in the lodge grounds :). I called the tour company, they said that they use a number of different rafting companies. I hope I get to go with Denali raft adventures. They have all positive reviews on trip advisor :).

Yep a lot of good reviews, so many more TripAdvisor reviews above the next contractor. Thus I'm concerned my land/cruse package trip would be with Denali Park Village (bottom of the list). I've boated rivers a long time so little thing make big deal for me. What is causing me issue with going direct with this tour: I don't know when we get to the village and thus it seems I have to book a very late canyon trip. Don't see dinner that night I guess. I'm guessing the "package" trips will be done by a contractor during that time before they do the late canyon trips at set for 6:30 PM. They may get chance to make dinner at the village? Can anyone advise when package tours run?

    Thanks

  5. I've had a set like this for years used them on my 40' boat so rockin' and rolling is good; nice wide view and BRIGHT. I know some one talked about Celestron and someone talked about 10x50; yea' I know this is not the same but I've also got the Celestron 10X50 and they just don't get as much use since I got the Cabela's. Just so much more bang. Maybe not for the buck but for the eye!

    Best of luck,

Silly me I forgot the URL

  7. This x1000!

I always tease my wife because invariably at a new restaurant she'll ask the waiter/waitress "What's your favorite thing on the menu?" Then when she follows the suggestion, half the time she'll say "It was OK but I don't know what the big deal was with that" or "Well, I'll never order THAT again." And I end up pointing out that when you ask that question, you have no idea whether that waiter/waitress has the same taste as you.

Husky, I know how that works. Feel the same.

However, I feel less wake if I don't tease.

  8. The Alaskan bird is Zika, Dengue, and West Nile free. They are perfectly safe to feed.

    Thanks for this input.

I noticed some did not like it but...this bugsme.

    Somebody suggested itwas not appropriate.

Is that you thinkthis is off topic? Perhaps speculatedisease to fool an issue in Alaska?

The Topic is mosquitoes and we are on a travelsite. Many first time folks come to Alaskadon't know about mosquitoes at all and thus seek info like OP. Zika, Dengue and so on are an issue in some cruiseparts of the world. I don't think it isan attack on Alaska to state information conditions not supporting the diseases.

As to what is and what is not appropriate for theseboards, I've used TripAdvisor sometime yet, I'm new to CC. Maybe someone can point out where details ondisease are outlined in the guidelines.

Everyone is welcome to an opinion of course; hopeI've not offended.

    I thank you xlxo.

  9. In some urban areas, I've seen vans that drop folks off at intersections; they seem to work cars at stop lights for cash....

I never thought they would be out in the smaller AK towns.

Guess the panhandlers think about vacation too.

  10. We are still suffering a week after leaving the Norwegian Jewel May 20-27, 2017. Have seen physician, contacted CDC and local public health, and travel agency. Have been in contact with 14 others who are also ill with upper respiratory symptoms. Would not recommend a cruise for anyone with a chronic illnesses, previous history of bronchitis or those 60 or 65 and above.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Wow, you don't recommend a cruise for anyone 60 or 65? Doubt that wisdom will be followed considered current ship travel demographics. I'd like to not recommend sick people cruise but I'll not hold my breath on that working.

  11. Hi from Pembroke Pines, Fl!! We have white water rafted about 5 times and loved it. We were living almost a year in the Co mountains and went for it- about 8 years ago. On our first attempt we did the III to V's and did the paddling. They gave great instructions and was alot of fun. I recommend it highly. I would not miss this experience in Denali.

    Fran

So we are on a Celebrity Land/Cruse tour 5B, trust it will be the same as RCI.

What river outfitter did you go with? Seems I can find about 5 of them in that neck of the woods and one does not have many reviews so I've got concerns.

Did you get overnighted in Denali Parke Village? How do you get around?

    Thanks much!

  12. Perhaps I am cheap but I might tip $10-20 for an excursion. There is NO way l'd tip 20%. And agree- I don't tip the plane crew flying out nor would I tip a helicopter crew.

And some may tip that much, and some may say they tip that much.

Agree with the no tip for the plane crew flying out. And less you want a free pat down don't try to tip the TSA.

  13. First, I've also read about folks that don'twant to display a lanyard of the ship for security issues. They don't wish to stand out as a tourist. Well just a thought: I think most locals don't need a lanyard tospot a tourist. Come on, you have beenaround the world. You don't even have tobe on to know one. It could be thecamera, the gear from LL Beans, fanny pack, the dress that is not local, whatever. When the big boat comes to town, everyone knows it. So trust me less you work for some covertagency that has three letters it is not the shoes or the lanyard.

Next, TNcrusing02, wow after 12 pages, it mayhave been stated before, but I like it:

"I think any newbies who are reading thisthread should decide for themselves if they like the convenience of wearing theSea pass on a lanyard."

Mind you I'm not sure, does that say the oldsalts don't have free will anymore? Granted, I know some, maybe me that can get set in our ways.

This board is one that can chew an issue todeath. I'm thinking of starting threadslike boxers or briefs; socks or no socks, late or early seating, do you sleepon the left or right side of the bed; what is the best way to lacesneakers. Such deep thread/thoughts nodoubt have already been done but heck that never stopped anyone from stirringanother thread up again.

Before I get lambasted for hijacking, let meget back on topic of THE LANYARD, has any one googled lanyard accidents? This knocked me out.

Well I did find a group called MAL "Mothers Against Lanyards" Ok I think this one is a joke.

But for realz, Mom & Dad: you read on otherlinks about fatal accidental hanging, neck injury and school systems that banthem. Wacky maybe but just a thought foranyone with kids. They make bath suitswith pocks & Velcro.

Put a line around a kid's neck and what could possiblygo wrong?
