  1. Hello All,

Newbie here. I am looking into doing my first solo/single cruise. There are so many options to choose from, I don't even know where to start. Can anyone recommend a great first cruise for a 47 year old single male. My preference is a Caribbean destination. I am not looking to go broke on this - Just a nice relaxing getaway!

Sorry if I am not providing you with much info!

    Steve

hi i just treated my self to a bday present of a first time solo cruise on royal Caribbean for 1260 total. Its 5 days to bermuda from nj may 26 to 31 2018. I am on deck 6
  2. I finally booked my solo cruise and the only studio balconycabin left was in deck 6. I had ideas of sitting out on the balcony early morning for coffee but it seems that is an obstructed view cabin how bad is it and will I have a view to enjoy

  3. Hello everyone. . . . Welcome to the start of “LIVE”from Anthem of the Seas. I will be heading up for a Pre Cruise Stay on Sunday,as my hotel will be just a short drive from Cape Liberty Cruise Port (Bayonne,NJ)

Anthem of the Seas leaves on Monday for a 5 Night Canada / NE Cruise that will take me to Bar Harbor, Maine and Halifax, Nova Scotia. It has been a few months since my last sailing (Oasis of the Seas – Jan 2017) and I am very happy to be sailing Anthem of the Seas for the first time. I toured Anthem last summer, but there is noway to get the “feel” of the ship in just a few hours.

I sailed Quantum of the Seas twice in 2015 so I am aware of where things are and how to get there, but it make take a little while to get my “Sea Legs”. I would really like to sail for a 7 or 9 night Cruise to Canada, but my vacation plans worked out for this sailing in June.

I will be posting “LIVE” daily with photos and comments about the public areas, cabins,as well as my two ports this sailing (Bar Harbor, ME and Halifax, NS) There will be many CruiseCritic Members on my sailing as well. . . Anthem of the Seas appears to be Sold Out and I am sure that there will be over 4500 pax on board.

It has been a long winter in Maryland with a lot of cold weather and I am hoping for a relaxing cruise.(With a valid wireless connection, Keep your fingers crossed).

Have a cup of Coffee, relax and welcome aboard! I like that my Hotel will have some “We Proudly Serve” Starbucks in the lobby. I will post again tomorrow from my Pre Cruise Hotel.

    Thanks for tuning in . . .

  4. I'm in my mid forties, and thanks to a divorce, it will be my first solo cruise. I originally booked a solo room, but upgraded this week to a balcony. Although it was only $42 more, I paid much more than double occupancy. I'm really nervous but excited. Vacationing solo is a big step for me! It seems that Norwegian really helps the solo cruisers. I'm surely hoping I can join in some of the solo festivities!

Please leave a review of your time on board I am 47 and taking my first cruise solo may 26 2018. Have fun:)

  5. When Royal Caribbean announced that their Quantum Class ships would have some single cabins they received accolades from travellers and travel experts. Here was an opportunity for single travellers to book a cabin without paying the 100% supplement.

    BUT WAIT

In what appears to be a continuation of the practice of charging a single l.p.traveler double, Royal Caribbean have priced these single cabins higher than you can book a double cabin even paying the 100% supplement.

I tried to book a single on a couple of cruises here is what I found:

I could book a standard 198sq ft balcony cabin at $4450, $4600 and $5240 at the double rate ( depending on location) and yet the 119sq ft single cabin priced out at $5940.... For a single traveller.

Try as I might I have been unable to get any reasonable explanation from anyone at RCL at least any that makes any sense.

So in effect they are forcing single travellers to book a standard double cabin and pay the 100% supplement and are either withholding single cabins or pricing the single cabin higher than you pay for a standard double.

Single travellers need to make Royal Caribbean aware that they are once again gauging the single traveller and make this move into a public relations disaster. Write to the President of Royal Caribbean and express your disgust... Only by making this an issue can we change the pricing.

I just booked a solo balcony for 1200 on anthem of the seas for a 5 day Bermuda cruise 5.26.2018. I booked online.:)

  6. I did my first solo cruise last year when I was 49 years old. I have sail many + times with family but like you my husband did not have any more vacation days and I did not want to sit at home on my vacation! So I sailed on the Grandeur for 9 nights. Sure I was apprehensive traveling alone but once I was on the ship it was wonderful. I actually found that when people discovered I was traveling alone they made an extra effort to invite me to sit with them at lunch, in the theatre etc. I never felt alone. I had such a relaxing time I booked another solo cruise for February. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)

I think at this point i am more inclined to do it than not.:)

  7. I say do it!!!! I too am 47 and just made my final payment for my first solo cruise on Anthem in Sept for my birthday..... I'm a little nervous but love cruising....I have 2x the vacation time as my other half....and this sounded like something to try at least once....hope I like it..... I choose a 5-night over a 7 for my first solo experience......and got a decent solo suplimement rate on a regular veranda room.... Thought about taking my first NCL cruise and booking one of their studio rooms...but I'm not ready to give up the balcony and listening to the waves for hours...... I also bought the BOGO dinning to do a specialty on my bday........I'm kinda excited about the idea of having a room all to myself.....sleep however late or whenever I want......looking forward to being on my time and no one else's.... Do report back with a review!!!!

Please give a report of your experience. Its far away but I really think I want to do this

  8. Loving the book idea and donating, leaving room to bring home trinkets lol. My first solo cruise (and first cruise ever) is in 3 weeks. Different line and itinerary but I really appreciate you sharing your trip. It makes me more confident and excited for mine!!!
