I’m following someone online who is due in Palma in the next day or so on Arvia. They don’t seem to have been changed.

There aren't any ships of a similar size there in port so no schedule clashes

Just a thought. If one of the ships is doing changeover. The passengers won't be in the town. They will be coming or going

Unfortunately the rules are quite clear and state one ship with capacity of 5000 or over , no exceptions

As far as I can see the only cruise to be affected is 30 April departure which has been changed to Alicante. All the others so far calling at Palma are still going. I do find it strange though, we are going later in the year and besides Arvia we have Seaview and Celebrity Apex in port, can't see it happening.

Arvia can't dock with Seaview in Palma, Celebrity Apex is smaller than 5000 passengers so is unaffected. P&O have to wait for the port to cancel the call

If you are referring to the passenger quotas then I doubt they will change it and even more ports are joining in including Barcelona and most Norwegian ports.

I mean the itinerary changing as it will certainly have to change with the rules as they are now. Hopefully P&O confirm the itinerary change soon. MSC certainly won't be cancelled as Palma is a home port for Seaview

  5. One ship with 5000 passengers allowed in port each day , two other smaller cruise ships. Arvia and MSC Seaview both in port the same day and MSC are embarking passengers there , Some cruises changed for Alicante , the others will be changed for that or Valencia possibly Malaga or overnight in Barcelona

I was more of the mind of ‘stray’ missiles. Think Poland had a hit which killed a couple of people, and Poland appears further away ‘from the action’ than Estonia.

Yep there was a missile strike in Poland but it was found to have been caused by the Ukrainian missile defence system that was targeting the russian missile. There is a minimal chance of an accidental missile strike but Putin for all his threats isnt going to risk an attack on NATO countries as the outcome for Russia would be massive and result in a global war

  7. At the moment the Typhoon aircraft along with other NATO aircraft are ensuring that the Baltic is safe. If there is a threat then P&O will visit alternative ports but at the moment the situation in those countries are safe and Putin is aware of what would happen to Russia if they attacked any country in the Baltic or a NATO country. Since the outbreak last year. Ships have docked safely in the Baltic ports and there are navy vessels patrolling the waters around those areas

  8. I think it's not just P&O but other cruise lines that are discounting prices as well. The fjords are plenty big enough for ships like Iona and MSC Virtuosa. I think P&O were quite unlucky with weather and numerous other ships cancelled their port calls in the fjords last year including small ships from Seabourn and Oceania , the locals told us it had been one of the wettest and windiest summers on record which resulted in lots of cancelled ships. The cruise pier in Hellesylt is less than half of the length of Iona but with the berthing dolphins, can easily accommodate the largest ships in the world

  9. Whilst the ship has azipods and captains will know how to work them. Winds like those of around 55mph in Alicante the other day with a narrow harbour entrance are beyond the safe limits to even think about trying to use them and if they had docked in Alicante they would have missed Barcelona due to weather, whilst it's disappointing to miss a port, I trust that the captain has made the correct decision. We have docked once on a South America cruise in winds of around 30 knots , the captain said that he would have one go at docking and if they couldn't get alongside they would cancel the port. Anything higher than this and the port will be cancelled. Last year Norway had what locals described as the worst summer ever and many ships had to cancel ports including both large ships like Iona and smaller ships like Seabourn . There have been issues previously with wind in Monaco and in Rome where ropes have become unattached or in Monaco where passengers had to sleep in a sports hall because tendering became too dangerous

  10. I can't think of any others who it might be. It probably won't be Katie Price. Possibly Jill Scott but I assume it's going to be someone from the Caribbean as others have stated from what they've heard on the ship. I can't think of anyone else who it may be.

    Two points.

    1. P&O couldn't afford her.

    2. Rhianna would not want to be associated with P&O.  It would totally destroy her image.

If NCL can afford Katy Perry for their recent christening on NCL Prima then I'm sure that P&O / Carnival could afford Rihanna. I'm not sure whether it would destroy her image or whether she would actually be happy to be associated with a billion dollar ship that will bring a lot of income and tourism to the Caribbean and to Barbados.

    We

We have the same itinerary in the middle of May and haven't had any information from them about Palma.

As far as I can see from the Palma cruise schedules, Arvia is always in port with MSC Seaview which both have a capacity over 5000. MSC are using Palma as a home port so they won't be cancelled. Only one ship with 5000 passengers is allowed in port each day and a maximum of three ships, and for my cruise in September there are five ships scheduled, three of which have a capacity of more than 5000 . I think they'll look to secure berths in either Alicante or Valencia which they have for the cruise that was due to be in Palma 5th May.

Arvia and Seashore will not be able to dock in port together as only one ship over 5000 is allowed in Palma, Costa Pacifica is exempt as it isn't a megaship. Arvia will definitely be docking elsewhere anytime that Seashore is in port as Seashore is a home ported ship embarking passengers there. Almost all of the itineraries this year for Palma will have to change. I assume you'll get a notification of alternative port soon

According to the crew centre arrivals for April 10th, Arvia is there along with MSC Seashore (5877 passengers), Costa Pacifica (3617 passengers) and Arvia (6264 passengers).  That will be a very busy day in port, we might stay on the ship! have a relaxing day in the spa.

Just reread your post and realised you were referring to Marseilles. It will be busy that day in port there. Toulon has often been less crowded and people have preferred being there to Marseilles so not sure if that will change. Your call to Palma will be fine as no other ships in port

Also home port for Marella Discovery 2 and Voyager which I think are there on Tuesday and Saturday

Yep P and O will hopefully be able to rearrange replacement ports for the itineraries that will be affected. I think the government there are happier with the home port ships as quite a few passengers will spend time in Majorca before the cruise

Appears there are 3 ships on 10th Britannia, AIDAstella and Costa Diadema.

Just MSC Seaview and Britannia on 11th.

24th has 2 ships one of which is Britannia, other Costa Diadema.

25th looks problematic- Britannia, Seaview, Celebrity Edge and Mein Schiff.

Looking at these I assume the first cruise on 4th is likely to be best for not being cancelled?

We want to go to Soller as we went last year but had restricted time, that's the attraction for the overnight.

The one with three ships on the 10th would be fine as I don't think any of the ships on that day have more than 5000 passengers and the following day is fine as there's only two ships.  The other cruise with four ships, one will have to cancel

Re Majorca I'm just looking at Britannia cruises on 4th and 18th August with a view to booking.  These two cruises show overnights in Majorca which my friend and I quite liked.  Am I to assume these too will be at risk of not happening? As it would be two days I'm not keen if it became extra seaday, a substitute port would be okay but assumedly it wouldn't be overnight.

Britannia has a capacity of 3600 so in theory should be less affected by the rule changes as it can dock in port with ships that have over 5000 passengers. Check if there are more than three ships in port that day
