edrussell -  Hello - You mentioned you had mixed feelings initially when first arriving at Maxxi's in Freeport.  Can I ask why?  How long did it take to get there?  We are thinking about going there in April.  Any details would be appreciated.   Thank you!

Thanks for this extensive review!  Looking to possibly schedule a cruise on Allure.  The prices on Allure seem to be lower than on most other ships and I can't figure out why. Is there something wrong with this ship?  Sounds like your cruise was amazing!   Thanks for sharing.  

Mailed my daughter's passport renewal on November 30.  We paid for expedited processing and return shipping.  Received her passport back in the mail on December 16.  

Just an FYI -  I was at Jack's in August and there was not a charge to use their chairs on the beach.  A friend was there last week and apparently there is now a charge for chairs.  The rate was $20 for two chairs (don't know if there is a charge for an umbrella). 

Has anyone done this tour lately? How was the tour?   What type of foods were served?  Trying to decide if it's worth the $35/pp price tag.  Thank you!

To the OP:  Our experience has been that dinner in the WJ varies from ship to ship.  I recommend that you stop by the first night and see what you think.  On some ships, the food being served is very much like what the dining room is serving that night; on other ships the food selection is completely different.  Same with atmosphere...on some ships they really try to make it a nice evening:  the lights are lowered and they will have flowers on the tables and the silverware/napkins on the tables.  I would not automatically avoid the WJ at dinner, it can be a very nice experience (again, depending on the ship).

We just booked Pride departing on August 4.  (We haven't been on Carnival in 10-12 years.)  A question about this scheduled arrival time:  I assume since we booked so late, this is the reason we were assigned a 2:30-3pm check in time.  What time is a good time to arrive to the port--should we plan to arrive at 2:30? Or is there a chance (if there is not a line) that we could board before 2:30pm? Also, would it make sense to carry on our bags rather than checking them with a porter since we should be able to access our cabin when we get on the ship?  Thanks for any input!

I thought the construction was by British Colonial (building a large building next door).

I have read about the new construction next to the BCH. But I have also read that there is remodeling (major remodeling) at Melia and that construction noise can be an issue.

I'm looking at Melia too for later this month. But I've heard that they are doing major remodeling and the construction noise is hard to ignore. Can anyone confirm this?

The pink sand beaches are along the South Shore. The closest South Shore beach is Horseshoe Bay Beach. Mini-buses are the best mode of transportation to/from HSB. They run continuously during the day. The fare is $7p/p each way for door to soor service. Travel time is 25-30 minutes depending on local traffic.

A question about turning Diamond: Our last cruise was our first since turning Diamond. The first evening, we received a bottle of wine. The second evening we received a plate of chocolate covered strawberries. There was not ever a note; were these gifts maybe an acknowledgement of our first cruise being Diamond? And, indeed, the best part of being Diamond is the DL. We so enjoyed our time in the DL (on Enchantment) and the wonderful staff. They made us feel very special!

For those who have been on Freedom and in the DL lately, did you find that most people followed the dress code outlined above?

In the Schooner on Enchantment in August, we asked if they had any bar snacks and were given a jar of a variety snack mix. You had to ask for it though, they weren't offering it.

I do have several photos on my phone. I'm not sure how to get them from my phone to here though :o. I will see if hubby can help me with that. It might take a day or two, but I will post them!

We were in cabin #9664 on Empress back in February. We loved it! It was my husband and I and our 2 college-aged daughters. The main part of the cabin is of average size for an outside, the little 'notch' was much bigger than we thought. There are two pullman beds in that section along with the second window. There is tons of floor space there too. The girls partially lived out of their suitcases (we were a bit short on storage space) since there was plenty of floor space for the suitcases. There is a heavy curtain dividing the main cabin from this pullman bed area. There was no noticeable noise and the location is perfect to get to the pool deck. We always get two cabins when we all cruise, but we got a great price on this back in February; wouldn't hesitate to book this cabin again.

We were on Empress earlier in March. They did have the ship models in one of the shops. I did not notice the price though. Sorry!

Are the menus fleet-wide supposed to be changing within the next month or so? I'll be aboard over Thanksgiving, I'll let you know if it doesn't change before then.

I read in a couple of different threads that new menus were rolling out. I had not been able to confirm new menus on Freedom though. I would appreciate an update after your return! Thanks!

Are there any/many mosquitoes at Maya Chan does anyone know? I read a review, though it was a couple of years old, that said there were a ton of mosquitoes and that wearing a repellent was necessary. Thanks!

Does anyone know how much a taxi is from the cruise port to Darkwood Beach? I've read about the bus system, but am curious to know how much a taxi to and back from the beach might run for 4 people.
