  1. Shark Ray Alley is south of Ambergris Caye and north of Caye Caulker, same place. most tours combine Hol Chan with Shark Ray.

Snorkeling in Caye Caulker is Best at the Split. No coral but lots of fish,

I appreciate the response but I'm still on the fence about this. A couple of the tour companies in Belize answered me and said that there is in fact two different Shark Ray Alley locations (one in Caye Caulker reserve and one in the Hol Chan Reserve). Some reviews I've read said Hol Chan is better and the tour company said they prefer Cay Caulker (but they may just be trying to sell the tour).

  2. I am struggling with this right now. We have him booked for July 9th on Carnival out of Port Canaveral. It says we are there from 8-5 but I have heard that Carnival stays on ship time which means local time will be from 6am-3pm? The first ferry local time is 8am and if we did his half day tour we would have to take the 1:30 ferry to make it back by the last tender. We always do excursions on our own but this one just has me thinking its too rushed to be worth it?? plus with the half day we don't see Hol Chan even though Ive hear the half day is great without it. Soo conflicted!!

Hi, I know this is an old post of yours but I'm struggling with the same issue for my Carnival cruise this week. Did your cruise end up being Florida time leaving you with 6AM-3PM at Belize? What did you end up doing for the excursion?

  3. Going on my first cruise this month and I can't decide what to do in Belize!!! I'm going snorkeling in both Grand Cayman (going to stingray city too) and Roatan, and will be doing an XRAIL excursion to a cenote (Jade Caverns) in Cozumel. I have also been to cenotes on a vacation in Mexico last year, did a ton of ziplines at XPLOR park and went to plenty of ruins. I know it's not exactly comparable, but I tube a lot down rivers where I live in NY. I'm not sure which excursion would be the most exciting, unique or fit in best with my planned activities. Looking for advice from those who are well traveled or are very familiar with Belize! I know I'm not interested in doing any ruins...I found the 3 main excursions below:

    • Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan Marine Park Snorkel Excursion by Air
    • Coral Gardens and Shark Ray Alley Snorkel with Caye Caulker Beach Break Excursion
    • Jungle ATV, Zip Line and Cave Tubing Combo Adventure Excursion
  4. Hi, I'm a first time cruise that's going to be stopping at Cozumel on Carnival Glory next month and am wondering what port it goes to there. I'm assuming it would be the Puerta Maya Cruise Ship Terminal but wanted to be sure. I'm thinking about doing the XRAIL and Jade Caverns excursion with Wild Tours (has good reviews) but it doesn't include transport if the port is further. It says from Puerta Maya terminal it's walking distance but if we're required to take a taxi I'd rather choose a company that includes the transportation. I also would like any input from anyone who has fairly recently done the XRAILs or booked through wild tours, is it a good excursion/company? Thanks!

  5. I'm going on my first cruise that will be stopping at ports that include water taxis, including Grand Cayman. I'm wondering how it exactly works when the ship docks and what they have the passengers do. Do you get to the port fairly quickly on the water taxi? Do the water taxis run back and forth the entire time the ship is docked at the port? I'm going to book an excursion for Stingray city and want to make sure I schedule a good time to meet up with the excursion company at the port. It only lasts a few hours so I'm wondering if we wanted to get lunch after if we could board the ship again or if the water taxi only transports at the arrival/departure? Thanks!

  6. I know this question has been asked a bunch but I'd like to see what recent visitors have to say. I know there was issues with coral bleaching in different areas years ago...not sure if there's still any issues? Our Carnival cruise is visiting all 4 ports and I can't decide where to snorkel. Also, if anyone has excursion recommendations please share!:)
