Glad I saw this. I know it is a little old. We will be renting a car from Miami. Having a Budget car return here makes life simple. Since we would only be sleeping here pre-cruise one night, I am fine with anything. I have to use airline miles and this was one of the few options. We will be able to cruise up A1A in the afternoon, meet up with friends near LHP, and relax without having to worry about car rental return and anything else the next morning. Having the car rental will also allow us not to have to pack sunscreen and stuff like that for our flight. I can hit up CVS right up the street.

Stayed here last December and returned my rental car at the hotel (not sure if anything has changed). Everything went fine, and I would definitely do it again, but in terms of a rental car office, I never saw one. Make sure you discuss with the front desk, when I spoke with them they explained that the rental car people aren't really at the hotel all that often. I was told to put the rental car keys in a safe right next to the front desk and they'd pick it up later.

I was pretty skeptical and a little worried about all the what if this or that happens since I never got a receipt, but I never saw any extra charges and was never contacted by the rental car company with any concerns. It wasn't exactly what I expected going in, but I would definitely do this again. It was nice to have a rental car before the cruise, and not need to worry about taking it back before shuttling over to the cruise port.

  2. I guess I disagree with most of the others posting negative replies. I really enjoyed my Feb cruise on Majesty. I am supposed to sail on her again in May, but I'm pretty much certain it will be cancelled.

It's all about perspective: as long as you realize this is not a huge new high tech ship you can still have an awesome time! Sure, I could find negatives, but honestly I can say that about lots of the newer ships as well.

From what I experienced the crew was super friendly. They all get to know you by the second day and they had friendly attitudes. Sure the ship is old, the rooms are on the smaller side, but it sure beats being at home! The crew worked hard to keep the ship clean, yes there is wear and tear for sure, but luckily they didn't put me to work doing any maintenance so I didn't worry about it.😄

I guess I can understand some of the hate on this thread, but NOLA is an easy drive from my home, and I would sail on her again without any hesitation.

I just found this interesting. On another blog, it shows that someone actually spoke to Royal and was told the email was a fake.  The actual email address isn’t from Royal.

In looking for anything official, I could only find where individuals took the email and notified local schools and agencies. News ran with that.

I called Royal and spoke to someone that had no clue!  Not sure if they even knew their name.  Couldn’t tell me anything!

I received nothing official from CDC.  Did anyone?  Not sure why they would have allowed the following cruise to dock if this was known before the date they docked.

Did anyone else’s email have “ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING TRAVELS” at the beginning of the email?

I didn't see anything else from anyone including the CDC on this topic. It seemed to me it was used as a notification to the previous cruise, but also a warning to the voyages to let everyone know they enhanced their sanitation plan and why it was happening so i assume that's why the image mentioned "upcoming travels", the subject did say "recent cruise"

The email was sent by a company called Everbridge, which lots of large companies use to communicate to large groups of people based on certain demographics or locations during a critical event. If it was fake someone sure targeted the correct audience.

Maybe it was fake, but it was nicely done in terms of logo's branding and contact information. I sure hope it was, I'm pretty sure everyone on the cruise is\was already highly concerned even without an email like this. We still have a couple more days before the all clear 🙂

Trying not to panic, but I wish RCCL would have provided more details - crew or guest, deck they lived on, dining room and time, etc.

I totally agree! This email really just incited more worry but I guess we deserve to be notified... I figure they avoided specific details to avoid even more panic, but it sure would be nice to know a bit more.

I just hope we all took enough precautions, I was borderline paranoid with regards to hand washing and using the hand sanitizer.

  5. Just received this email from RCL. I realize the letter says may be associated with the cruise, but I figure they must be pretty sure, right??

Dear Majesty of the Seas Guest,

Royal Caribbean International is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to investigate 2 confirmed cases of COVID-19 that may be associated with travel aboard the Majesty of the Seas in February 29th, 2020.

To maximize the health of our guests and crew, Royal Caribbean International has implemented enhanced sanitation, health screenings and conservative travel restrictions. We understand the concerns shared by all our guests and their families, and are confident that these steps implemented will maximize safety and satisfaction.

In order to prevent additional illness and identify anyone else who may have been diagnosed with COVID-19 after traveling aboard the Majesty of the Seas, we ask the following:

Our ultimate goal is to ensure the health and safety of our guests and crew and to lessen the impact of COVID-19. So, if you have already traveled aboard the Majesty of the Seas and get sick in the following 14 days after your cruise:

    • Seek medical attention to determine if you are at risk of contracting COVID-19.

    • Follow the guidance of your health care professional and take a COVID-19 test.

    • If you test positive for COVID-19, ask your doctor to report your illness to your local or state health department as soon as possible after your diagnosis.

Both Royal Caribbean and CDC are working to protect the health of the guests and crew aboard the Majesty of the Seas and we are confident that we are handling the situation the best way possible. If you have questions about COVID-19, you may contact your local or state health department. You can also learn more about COVID-19 at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html.  For travel-related questions, please contact us at 1-800-256-6649 or if you’re outside of the US, please find the appropriate number here.

    Sincerely,

    Royal Caribbean International

  6. Thanks for taking time to post this review! I'll be going on this cruise in March, like you mentioned my main reason for choosing Majesty is  that it's an easy drive to New Orleans from my home. Sounds like your experience was similar to what i was expecting. Although I can totally understand how you wouldn't want to repeat on this ship, I have to admit it a bit disappointing to hear. 😉

  7. Quick follow up, in case anyone else in interested in the future.

I ended up booking whale watching through the cruise line (Princess) and took the tour last week. I had a really good time, we saw sperm whales about 4 or 5 different times throughout the day. There were several whales each time and they stayed on the surface for a good amount of time.

The boat was able to get very close to the whales and it was great. Although they do not guarantee you'll see anything the captain said they normally see something 80% of the time.

  8. Anyone know if American Airlines participates in EZ Check from Port Everglades (where your luggage goes directly to the airline and your boarding pass is delivered to the stateroom)?

I used this service last year flying out of MIA, and it was super convenient. I think I saw some posts many months ago where American was no longer an option, but I'd appreciate if anyone who has cruised recently could clarify or confirm.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the info.

We have a morning helicopter ride scheduled on 8Aug, and as of a couple of days ago, the excursion is still operating. Guess we have to wait until we get there to see if the excursion is still operating, then hope for good weather in the morning.

Don't have a go pro. Have a little 35M, will use that if I can fit it into my pockets, or my phone, to take pics from the platforms.   Tks again for the info, have a great rest of ur cruise.

I had a morning helicopter excursion from Juneau last year. It was too foggy so they just pushed it back a couple hours (or you could cancel). After talking to them it seems to be frequent occurrence. Hopefully it'll work out for you!

  10. Does anyone have any recent experience or suggestions on a whale watching tour? The other thread is pretty old so not sure if things have changed.

I realize Dominica isn't the same as Alaska but do you think it's a waste of time and money?

I'm a bit concerned with booking through the cruise as many times you feel more like livestock. Maybe I'm wrong??

I'd appreciate your experience or opinions!

I can't find it on my personalizer.  Would you mind telling me how you arranged it?  Thanks.

It isn't something you can sign up for before the cruise. You'll get a form delivered to your room one day (along with your daily planner and other 'mail'). It seems like you complete the form along with a copy of your flight itinerary and they will let you know if you are approved by the airline.

What is it about the ship tours that you don't like? How many in your group?

There are 2 people in my group.

With a ship tour you never know which tour guide you are going to end up having. If you get a good guide, it's great, but a couple times I've had some ship tours where the guide didn't seem to want to be there. It was my impression they were just there for the paycheck from the tourists and they couldn't wait to get rid of us.

Don't get me wrong I've had some ship tours that were fine. I've just had a much better and more consistent experience choosing local tour guides who come recommended from these forums or other travel sites.

  13. I'll be visiting St Thomas for the first time in December the ship is in Port from 10a-10p so there is a nice amount of time to get a feel for the island.

After reading this forum and trying to do some research I feel a bit more confused...

Should book an Island Tour in advance or will I have a pretty similar experience just walking around after we dock in the port? The cruise line options don't really seem appealing to me.

I keep seeing the several tour operators mentioned, although most of the information is a bit old, it seems like Godfrey and Henry both have good reviews. Does anyone have a clear preference or any insight? Is there someone else or a better plan to see St Thomas that I should be considering?

Appreciate your time and opinions 🙂

    Thx

    Justin

  14. Yes, it's a certificate number you are given on a booklet where you can look at your different options. You then call the Royal Caribbean number given to you and give them your MLife number along with the certificate number to book the cruise. (Different levels of MLife are offered different cruise options/ports.) And no, you're just basically picking up the booklet at the Beau. You don't reserve anything that day.

And yes, you have the ability to pay to upgrade your rooms. (For example, our free cruise included an inside cabin, but we paid to upgrade to a balcony. Well worth it in my opinion.)

The Royal Caribbean staff on the phone (at the number you are given) is very helpful and can answer any questions you have, no matter how trivial they may seem.

    Great information thanks!!!

  15. Yes, I had to pay taxes and port fees plus mandatory gratuities which are $13.50 a day. Still a GREAT deal and well worth it!!! Just used my cruise certificate last month on Liberty of the Seas to the Western Caribbean and it was WONDERFUL!!

I also received this offer and it's a bit confusing. If you have time would you please explain how it works. You mentioned a cruise certificate, does that mean you were free to book your cruise at a later time or do you have to book it that day while you were at the Beau?

Did they offer you the ability to upgrade to a nicer cabin?

I'd appreciate any additional information as I think this sounds like a fun offer. The information they provide is just so vague.

    Thanks,

    Justin

  16. I just returned from a cruise and also booked a tour through Dora last week. Mercedes was our guide for the day, but Dora did check in with our group several times during the day. We paid after the tour in USD.

I highly recommend Dora her email is dora@cartagenatour.com She was quick to respond to any of my questions before I booked and provided a very good overview of what to expect including the price and when you pay.

Our tour of Cartagena was really amazing. I think you will be very happy if you take a tour with her.

  17. Hi,

I've searched the forums and I wasn't able to find the specific timing of how long a ship spends actually going through the lock to Gatun Lake. On a 10 day partial transit from FFL on the Coral in April.

The Princess cruise site says the ship arrives at 6am and departs and 3:30pm.

Can anyone give me a better idea of what to expect in terms of timing? I realize the entry time is just an estimate, but from the time we enter the canal how long does it take to actually make it through a partial transit.

If I have an excursion planned, roughly what time do you think we'll leave the ship?

I'd appreciate everyone's experience so I can plan appropriately.

    Thanks,

    Justin
