For Bar Harbor, google “Island Explorer Acadia” and you’ll find the maps and timetables for the free bus that takes you into Acadia National Park.  Walk up Main St. to the Village Green and check in at the visitors booth there. If you have a National Park Pass, bring it for free entrance into the park.  The schedules have changed since covid, but a good itinerary used to be to take bus #3 to Otter Cliff.  Hike the Ocean Path back to Sand Beach.  Ocean Path is mostly flat, easy, and parallels the loop road, offering scenic views and numerous access points to outcroppings above the rocky shore, including major attractions like Thunder Hole.  Then taken Bus #4 to Jordan Pond.  Have lunch here by the lake.  Very good chowder and popovers.  Return to town on bus #5 and look at the shops.

Any advice for us cruising in late October?  I see the Island Explorer stops service on Oct. 10 unfortunately.

  2. Hi All!

My family (my wife, my 2 year old toddler, and my parents) are going on a 7 day NE/Canada cruise this fall.  We have stops here:

    Bar Harbor

    Portland

    Halifax

    Sydney

    Charlottetown

We are all veterans of cruising, but have never been in this area before.  Traditionally, we have just booked excursions through the cruise line.  We are looking to do something a little different this time, and plan things on our own, since we will only be in the US/Canada, and not a completely unfamiliar country.  We are all active people, and like to get out and do things (so not as much interested in the "bus tour" or "trolly tour" type activities.  We will have our 2 year old with us, but we will have a carrier and stroller for her.  We love hiking, and we know for sure we want do see the best of Arcadia National Park.  We also all love food and seafood, so we'd like a good sampling of the local lobster and shellfish.

Any advice for where to gather info on ideas on what to do at each stop?  What have all of you done if you have been on a similar cruise?  As a final note, we do all have $50 shore excursion credit from the cruise, so we may end up booking 1 trip through the cruise line just to take advantage of that.

    Thanks!

  3. Sorry to hijack the thread, but we recently "rebooked" our Alaskan cruise, as the price for a room literally right next to the one we had previously booked was around $1000 cheaper and they also are offering the 4x Explore promo.

My question was with the drinks as well.  The Signature drink package that is included free with the 4x promo, does that apply to both my wife and I in the stateroom?  (Aka both of us are on 1 drink package and we can get any drink we want for $9 and under for free, up to 15 a day)  Do we each get our own drink package?  Or does only one of us get it?

Secondly, I see that it applies to drinks $9 and under - what happens if I buy a $10 drink?  Will I be charged $10 on my card or $1 (the difference)?

    Wallie,

Since our cruise was planned for St. Maarten and some other places very badly hit by the hurricane, we anticipate going to around 3 different islands than was originally planned. Celebrity hasn't announced any changes yet though, so we were wondering how difficult it is to plan excursions on those new islands? Or, since it's going to be last minute, do most cruisers just wing it and find something to do or a beach to go to the day they get to the island?

This is our second cruise so we are new to being redirected. Our first cruise we planned way ahead of time with excursions and whatnot, so we are just wondering what to expect and how other people handle it. This will be our honeymoon, so I want it to be special and still have some fun things to do on the islands!

    Thanks
