  1. So many mixed reviews, but I am giving it a try for myself this weekend. My thought is, I will never know if I don't personally try it. I even thought about doing a RoyalUp bid for a traditional balcony, but I am sticking with it.  I am on deck 11 currently, and didn't want to risk going much lower. I will report back an honest review when I return.

We also had the 11:30 AM boarding time for our March 9th Icon cruise. We arrived at the pier at 10:20 AM and we were onboard with drink in-hand by 10:31 AM. We were completely impressed by the streamlined embarkation process. They don't mess around! By the time we got onboard, there were probably already several hundred passengers onboard.

I've got to hand it to Royal for their streamlined and frictionless boarding process. Very impressive! I also believe their goal is to get you onboard spending money on drinks, food, etc. ASAP, and I love that! I think their North Star is "Instant Embarkation Process for Our Passengers."

Thank you! I thought that I read something similar in another thread, so I thought I would ask here just in case I remembered incorrectly.

I copied this from WAAAYTOOO and use it all the time.

    1.  Imagine yourself standing in the hallway, and on the deck layout, find the closest set of connecting staterooms (double-sided arrow). The stateroom on the right side of the double arrows is the "right" configuration (I call that the "right" configuration b/c I prefer this arrangement AND it is located on the right side of the adjoined pair.  Just makes sense).  The stateroom on the left is the "wrong" configuration.

    2.  Then begin moving toward your cabin, alternating, right, wrong, right, wrong.  When you land on your cabin, you will know whether it is the "right" (bed by the balcony) or "wrong” (bed by the bathroom).

If you don't place yourself INSIDE the ship, in the hallway you will get it exactly backwards...so be sure that you are "counting" from the inside perspective, not the outside of the ship.  Sorry if that's confusing.  Trust me, I have made that mistake before.

Reviving this thread to see if this strategy applies on Icon.  Using this formula looking at cabin 11196 on Icon, it is a "wrong" which means bed is by the bathroom, correct?

  4. I TOTALLY agree! I just got off yesterday (1/8/24) and not only was the MDR disappointing, but the servers asking several times about completing the survey and rating them a 10 was extremely annoying and disruptive.  Not only did the head waiter ask, but also the person walking around in a suit as the supervisor (I assume).  Reminding about the survey on the last night would have been fine, but I didn't want to hear it every evening and several times.  I don't remember this being a thing pre COVID

  5. Last cruise we went on, we noticed a family that had a whole spread of Indian delicacies (papadum, naan, samosas) on their table, served family style.  I also heard that a similar offering is available with a Mediterranean theme.

I did email the special dining services for RCCL with the request for Indian cuisine, but have yet to hear back.  Has anyone else requested/had similar options in the MDR? Thanks in advance.

I read that post too, Instead of the mardi gras beads that meet and mingle groups will wear when meeting at a bar, wasn't it a cherry in person's drink?

OK going on Anthem on July 18th, and my M&M group agreed on green mardi gras beads.  Should I be aware of ANY alternate connotation?? ;D

  7. We just put down our deposit for a 9 day cruise next summer. All three of us traveling are under 40, but we do have elderly parents at home. Pre-existing conditions are not an issue for us.

My Citi credit card offers up to $3,000 for each traveler for interruption or cancellation, but I am looking to purchase additional coverage. I know there are more options (I.e. cancel for any reason, work reasons, etc) if trip insurance is booked within 15 days of initial deposit, and that window is closing.

Any insight on whether I should book now, or wait? Thanks in advance!
