CCL stock closed today at $12.59. 😲  If you buy 100 shares ($1259) now, you will get endless OBC ($50 - $250 depending on cruise length) as long as you own it.  CCL also gives quarterly dividends of $0.50/share or $50 if you have 100 shares.  This is an amazing 13.73% yield on dividends alone.   Just remember nothing is guaranteed when holding shares of a public company.

With the financial crisis currently at hand, I would expect the dividend to disappear, or at least be cut substantially.

  2. Perfect! We're sailing within a month, and have been looking forward to this wonderful moment. "Give me your tired, your poor. Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."

We were on the July 7th sailing, now with Captain Alex. We did not sail by the statue, sailed straight out. I noticed the last sailing, the 16th also sailed straight out. Summit will sail out today and you can watch on this website to she what she does.

  3. Almost identical itineraries and prices are close ($200 more on HAL per couple) HAL offers 3 overnights...Copenhagen, Stockholm and St. Petersburg. Princess overnights only in St. Petersburg.

In our early 70's, active, experienced cruisers. Comparing food, service and overall ship amenities, which would you chose.

    Thanks in advance !

We are Princess loyalist, but have recently been on Zuiderdam and really enjoyed it.

I agree with Pam, equal ships, and would do HAL because of the three overnights. And those are there great cities to overnight in.

  4. We had 3 ships in port this afternoon in San Diego, unscheduled. Have no idea which ones, but they're obviously all looking for safety. Tomorrow is supposed to be the worst storm so far, so they may not get out until Monday.

    We saw them today,

Insignia was scheduled to be here, she is on a world cruise that started in Miami

Seven Seas Navigator was scheduled to be here to start a 112 day world cruise.

Star Princess was to be in Santa Barbara and was probably switched to SD since she could dock and SB is a tender stop.

Marine Traffic's website shows they all departed tonight.

  5. I am pleased to see this blog is evolving into a more serious discussion of HAL and the cruses industry "Best Practices".

If this were a Harvard Case Study on Cruise Industry Best Practices and "Worst Practices", how do you all think it would play out.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the Best Mark, how would HAL and the Industry Score in your mind, Marketing, Pricing, Discounting, and Booking Practices and your Industry sense of fairness, honesty, truthfulness. and YOUR definition of Ethical Practices. There seems to be a wide diversity on the definition of Ethical.

I don't buy that if the entire Industry is doing it, it is now the benchmark for ethics !!!!

Here is a thought for the discussion.

What about the ethics of the consumer that enters a contract w/ HAL via an agreed price, accepted deposit and booking. Should there not be an ethical responsibility / duty to honor that contract.

  6.
Flying into FLL airport. How long to get to the dock and does anyone know how much taxis cost? We are getting in very early and not sure when we can board? Thanks for any help :):)
We took a cab today from the port (berth No. 4) to the airport and it was a little under $18.
  7. I'd be interested in knowing if there are any Princess Cruisers out there that agree with what I have proposed to Princess. The following is what I sent them a few months ago. And, if you agree with my proposal, forward it onto them showing your support.

    To Captain’s Circle

My wife and I have been sailing with Princess, and only Princess, since 1995; and, have now completed forty-five cruises on seventeen different Princess ships. We thoroughly enjoy everything about your line, from the ships, to the food, to the entertainment, and most importantly, the staff and crew. We are at the “Elite” level of the Captain’s Circle, and enjoy and appreciate the “rewards” and recognition that we receive from Princess.

However, as we continue to cruise with Princess we wonder what comes after “Elite”. With cruising becoming more and more accessible to travellers, more and more “cruisers” will achieve this level in the Captain Circle. We, of course, are not looking for more “rewards”, but do really appreciate the recognition our “Elite” status gives us among your crew.

What we would like to propose is that an additional level be added to recognize those passengers who have sailed well beyond the 16+ cruises of the “Elite” level. In concert with the 50th anniversary of Princess Cruise Lines, we propose a “Diamond Elite” level at 50+ cruises. A total of fifty cruises is a significant achievement, and a “Diamond Elite” status would further acknowledge and enthusiastically recognize those passengers who continue to sail with Princess. It would identify the ultimate level of continued loyalty over many years and cruises. Certainly maintain the impressive black “Elite” cruise card with its silver writing; but, add a bright diamond, and the “Diamond Elite” designation, to readily identify your most loyal passengers. The “Diamond” would correspond to the precious metals and gemstone concept presented with the Gold, Ruby and Platinum levels while enhancing the “Elite” status. And, to encourage and recognize passengers who have sailed on even more cruises with Princess, and to address the “what comes next” question, the Diamond elite card could have one diamond for fifty cruises, 2 diamonds for fifty-five cruises, 3 diamonds for sixty cruises, etc.

And, if you did want to add a few perks to your long list of rewards, a one-time per cruise waiver of a speciality restaurant cover charge accompanied by a complementary bottle of wine would be very nice touch.

    Peter and Jo Ann Hall

P and J, I read and appreciated your thoughts regarding Princess perks and your suggestions. I am sure Princess continually discusses how to reward and encourage their past cruisers to continue cruising. Past customers are Princess' best source for new bookings.

It was disappointing to read so many really rude comments regarding your post.

  8. Where to find the fancy & brewed coffees onboard the Pacific Princess?

    Coffee Card...usable?

Thank You in advance for any info you can share with me.

    Pat

When we were aboard, they had the coffee cards. The bars generally have the fancy coffee. If you are up high and near the rear, where we like to be, the Buffet's Bar is where we usually got our morning brew.

  9. I booked a cabin for three - third person was free. Just had to pay port charges, etc. Cruise is in two months. Cruise is paid in full. Now the second person is not cruising. It will just be two of us. How will HAL handle this. Haven't contacted HAL yet. Just want to know my options. How far in advance would I have to let HAL know. Have third party insurance.

I think the options are to substitute a third person, or cancel the third person, and probably get the third person's port charges only refunded.
