  1. Ha!  Definitely not a serious gambler over here, but the casino is usually the only place alive on the last day while they have typically had crew parties on past cruises.

With that being said, we are notorious for finding casino chips in our pockets/purse AFTER we get off the boat.  We will need to calendar our chip search two days before the end of the cruise if the casino is closed the last night.  😉

  2. Does anyone know whether the casino stays open during the overnights in Reykjavik (and Akureyri if Isafjordur gets canceled).  I know that the casino is typically closed when ships are in port (outside of rare exceptions like Bermuda), but we have an overnight at the end of our 11-day cruise and it seems weird that the casino would be closed on the last evening of a cruise.

    Thank you if anyone knows!

Disappointed they have left out the District Brewhouse.   All the bars seem to be very “cocktails type” , ok there’s the local (poor man’s O’Sheehans) but even that the renderings don’t seem to show any draught taps!

As photos of Prima's Syd Norman's Pour House leaked earlier and it wasn't included in this announcement either, I am guessing that they will be announcing the "beer" venues separately down the road...

  4. We have always brought rolls of singles in the past and have always made sure that the bartenders are taken care of.  Always $2+ per drink!!

I just wanted to to make sure that things hadn't changed with Covid and the push to cashless transactions.

Thank you all for your responses -- much appreciated!

  5. After a number of cancellations and delays, we are - finally - headed out on the Bliss Sunday!

For those who have recently sailed -- are we tipping on the card at the bars these days, or should I be bringing a roll of singles with me?  Not sure if NCL has gone "cashless" since the pandemic...

Unfortunately not. I thought about it since I knew someone would ask, but I ended up losing most of them because I always used the app on my iPhone instead. Hopefully someone else does!

Thank you for the quick response!  Hopefully someone out there posts them.  Thank you for the review.

What do you mean “the kids weren’t allowed on the outside decks at all”? The only restricted areas are the Haven sundeck and Vibe. Please explain.

I was referring to all of the Haven's outdoor sundecks being made off-limits as time has gone on...

When we were on the Getaway in 2015 we spent a lot of time out on the sundeck and the outdoor hot tub with the kids (the areas were empty a lot of the time) and there were no age restrictions.  When we sailed the Escape in 2017, we were told that kids were a-ok as long as they were being supervised by an adult.

When we booked the Bliss in 2018 we were really happy to see that they expanded the Haven to both sides of the boat (the port side hot tub was public on the Escape)!  Suffice it to say that we were really disappointed when we found out that they changed there policies and would not allow kids outside (even for sail-away), and that both of the front hot tubs were now off limits to families.

I guess it is good that they are warning people in advance now, but excluding families from the Haven pool area would definitely ruin the experience for our family.  Adult-only hours would be fine, and strict rules would be fine.  Excluding kids altogether seems a bit much, and I don't know why anyone cruising with their kids would go Haven if they couldn't enjoy the  best part of it with their family?

Don't you worry a bit.  NCL is much more family/kid friendly then it seems Cruise Critic is.  No way they drop kids without selling "family" cabins in the Haven.  😄

I am not so sure of that, as it seems like things have been moving in that direction…  The last time we sailed the Bliss, we weren’t able to enjoy sail away on the Haven sundeck because of their 16+ policy (and the kids weren’t allowed on the outside decks at all).  This seems like an extension of that…

We had been waiting 6 months to book the Prima, and the 16+ warning on the website certainly stopped us dead in out tracks and ruined that idea!

No children will help make this a real Haven for the rest of us!,👍👍

As a family who regularly sails the Haven with kids under 16, the rules would cause us to look elsewhere and is really disappointing.  From my perspective, age restrictions are not the way to go.  Instead, they should have strict conduct-based rules that are enforced and deal with issues that way.

The issue isn't age, it is behavior.  Our 12 and 13 year olds love the Haven, respect the rules, and we have only been complimented about their behavior.  In contrast, we had a cruise a few years ago where a large number of 16 and 17 year olds completely took over the Haven Courtyard, continuously ignored rules, and - essentially - took control of it for the entire cruise.  Candidly, In our sailings we have encountered far more adults that do not seem to understand that the Haven Courtyard is intended to be a quiet respite.

IMHO the problem is not a certain age group -- the problem is behavior and lack of parental oversight and NCL not enforcing rules.

With the front of the boat pointing downward in that picture, wouldn't it be safe to assume that the pool at the bottom of the photo (that would be closer to the bow of the ship) would be the Haven pool?

That additional pool appears to be at the same the location as the Yacht Club pool on the MSC boats...

  11. Cruised the Bliss in November.  After having been really disappointed in the past with iConcierge, I can say that the new app is definitely better and more reliable, but still has times where it just doesn't work.  If it were $3.00 per phone, I could easily overlook the flaws, but for the price they charge it is really hard to recommend.

Oh dear. This has me terribly concerned. I am sailing the Bliss next week

We just sailed over the Thanksgiving holiday and had a great time.  Yes, the pool can be crowded, but things like that happen on all ships.  Staff was wonderful.  Honestly, I thought staff was way too nice to a lot of incredibly rude and disrespectful people.

One woman was loudly complaining because no one at Norwegian told her that Thanksgiving was that Thursday and allowed her to book Teppanyaki (which according to her nobody in heir right mind old eat on Thanksgiving).  Even with that complaint, staff could not have more friendly.

Enjoy your cruise!  Unless you are looking for an excuse to be miserable, you will have a great time!

  13. i have stayed in the haven 3 times now and have yet to have our butler do anything other than leave snacks in our room. Now on the other hand our concierge on all 3 sailings has made all reservations for dinner, shows, excursions etc. always someone at the desk with a smiling face. Mostly always available for any question or request i have. So maybe some of you butler lovers can give me some ideas of what else you have the butler do besides leave snacks. Would love to utilize them more maybe i just don’t know how!

On our last cruise our butler chased us down to deliver a computer bag that we left in the room as we were disembarking. Ha!

Way above and beyond the call of duty...

  14. Day 2...

Nice Meet and Greet in DIstrict Brewhouse. I must say, though, that I was a bit disappointed in NCL. I’ve only been to one other M&G and it was RCL Harmony last year. During that event, every senior officer (including the Captain) joined us for about 30 minutes to share with our small group. No one from NCL at this one. Maybe the Harmony experience was the exception and not the rule???

The slot pull afterwards was a lot of fun and I’m not just saying that because I took down the side pot.

Next - racetrack time. I know there have been mixed reviews but I must say that we really enjoyed these. I was lucky enough to get starting position and took off from there. However, after lapping a few folks, the next car in front of me would never let me pass for the final four laps. It was frustrating and I would have bumped the car into a corner had there not been a rule against it and had the car not been my wife’s (who could make me pay dearly if I attempted said passing maneuver).

Relaxed in the afternoon and then grabbed dinner at La Cucina. We had a 530 reservation so we could easily catch the 800 comedy show - we thought. While the food was pretty good and the waiter very nice, it was one of the slowest dinners I’ve ever experienced. We barely made the show before the standby line was let in. Greg Warren was hilarious!

We gain an hour of sleep tonight with the time change which is good news for a 730 excursion meetup time.

Is that a separate go-kart line for Haven guests?

We want to see a detailed list if there is such a thing for the Getaway we are booked on.

    For example

I was looking for binoculars and couldn't find that NCL provides them.

  16. How is it possible, that a Haven room, much bigger than a balcony or inside room, only has 1 outlet? But other rooms have multiple

I am sure that it depends on your ship, but we did a Forward-facing Haven Penthouse on the Getaway, and the Deluxe Owners Suite on the Escape and had numerous outlets in each part of the cabins. No binoculars, but you definitely do not need to worry about outlets on those ships at least.
