  1. I’m a nerd.  I photograph all daily Passages as part of my trip memories.   See below. Sorry they’re a little crooked.  Hard to get the parallax perfect.

And I’m not sure if they will come in out of order.  I’m not great with technology.

I also searched for this info prior to my cruise so I thought I would post so others can enjoy.

  2. I was on Splendor for a TA crossing last year.  It was our 20 year wedding anniversary so we decided to dress up a few nights. My husband wore a tux and I wore a sparkly outfit.

And it was so darling, as the cruise went on, other couples came up to us and said, “we brought formal wear and now that we see you guys wearing it, we will dress up also!”   Some of the gentlemen even said, “I brought a bow tie but didn’t know if I would feel comfortable wearing it and now I plan to wear it.”

Well by the end of the cruise there were a lot of people dolled up.

It’s ABSOLUTELY not required and people looked elegant in whatever evening wear they chose within the after 6pm dress code.

I think because it was a TA, there was something epic about the journey.   That said, on our upcoming Caribbean cruise on Mariner, we are going to stick with evening appropriate but not formal wear.

Bottom line - it depends on you and your itinerary to make it your best trip, and people do not judge.   Just look elegant and comfortable and you will do just fine.

  3. Hello CC friends!

After canceling several cruises, as many of you probably did as well ... we are about 60 days away and this one is going to happen!   I can't tell you how excited I am.  I feel like with all my "cruising" the CC forums (sorry, bad joke), and other research I've been doing, I'm enjoying my vacation already.

With 10 sea days (yes...amazing, right?), there will be plenty of doing nothing.   However, in the interest of not gaining 20 pounds, does the fitness center offer complimentary yoga or stretching classes?   I do plan on doing plenty of walking on deck.   Have to mitigate my culinary goals on the cruise somehow.  And I'm not a huge fan of intense cardio on a machine.

Haha - I can do the math.  But something is better than nothing.

    Thanks!

As I read post after post here, I have to ask a question - am I just a grumpy old man or what?

We're coming off of a global pandemic where for all intents and purposes the ENTIRE DAMN WORLD WAS SHUT DOWN FOR A FEW YEARS...and we have people endlessly griping about a) Regent Air sucks, b) Regent's wine sucks, c) Regent's service used to be good...now it sucks, d) Regent's shore excursions suck, e) fill in the blank sucks...

For the love of Pete, people, NCLH somehow managed to survive a complete shutdown of their core business for close to two years...and then had to ramp a global operation back up amid a looming global recession, worldwide supply chain issues, a vastly changed workforce, and numerous challenges that we probably don't even know exist - and we STILL have people on here whining about having to wait on hold longer than before, not getting the flights they want (an airline problem across the globe but somehow now Regent's fault), can't get the specific bottled water they just HAVE to have or they'll just die, I had to wear a mask on a bus in Bulgaria...

I, for one, am very happy that Regent didn't go the way of Crystal and all things considered is almost miraculously back to very close to their pre-pandemic levels of service.  My advice to people who aren't happy with the current state of affairs:  Either take a chill pill until things smooth out, choose another cruise line, or find another way to spend your vacation time and money.  All of this carping is really starting to get old...

Okay, sorry for the rant.  It's just so frustrating seeing everyone think global businesses like this can just flip a switch and make everything normal...now, where did I put MY chill pills?!?

I’m 100% in agreement Bill, and glad you posted this.    I thought we would come out of this mess a kinder and more patient society.   As the eternal optimist, I have to turn off the negative.   I just read a post and looked at the photos from another first time Regent cruiser and it brought tears to my eyes … because I am so excited to get back out there and explore the world!    I don’t really care if there is a “flaw” or two on my upcoming first Regent cruise.   It’s going to be awesome!

  5. Thank you eroller!

The photo link you posted was such a pleasure to scroll through.  I saved the link to share with my husband tonight!   I’m sure it took work to post all of this, but as a first time Regent cruiser myself (sailing a TA in November), it was invaluable.

I chuckled at one of your photo posts where the popcorn sundae was 4x larger than the lobster tail next to it.  Touché!

  6. Hi everyone,

Our November TA on Splendor is over Thanksgiving.  Can someone chime in with whether a Thanksgiving menu is served in any of the restaurants that day?

Thinking CR will have a Chef's menu for this, possibly?   Just wondering as I start to plan for reserving specialty restaurants  (I know, it's still a bit away before I can book them, but you know ... very excited).

Sorry if this has already been addressed on CC, I searched to no avail...

    Thanks!

  7. Hi all,

It has been so exciting seeing all the posts from resumed cruising ... getting very excited about our 14-day TA in November.   Thank you to those who are bringing us along on your journey now, I'm reading every new post!

Can someone share some examples of what is served at the Pool Grill during dinner?    Just curious - thinking we might want to try it one or two nights if it's good.   Any suggestions on what to order there?

    Thanks!

  8. Thanks, that’s in line with what I’ve heard also. Wasn’t sure if the CC forum folks had more info than I’ve been able to uncover.   I don’t really care if we go out of Miami, who knows, maybe I’ll get to see San Juan again as our debarkation port! 😀

  9. Has anyone heard more on whether cruises will be sailing in / out of Miami?  We are booked on Splendor in December 2021 round trip Miami.   This is not to open a political discussion, but I want to clarify that my concern is based on the CDC rules requiring  vaccination versus Florida’s mandates that said that companies operating there can’t require vaccination.

  10. Hi CC folks!

I was wondering if you can book more than one shore excursion for a single port.  Some of the Caribbean ports will be beach type days for us and there seem to be some different excursions we might like to enjoy.   For example, I see that I can do a snorkel rental, parasailing, maybe stand up paddle.  Since these are all about one-hour activities, we may want to enjoy all three (sorry, is that greedy 😁?).

In the PDF version of the excursions, it does have the excursion start times, so of course I would need to coordinate with that.  And some, such as the snorkel rental, appear to be "join anytime."

What has been your experience?  I'm still a bit away from the ability to reserve excursions and wanted to get prepared.

    Thanks!

  11. Hello RSS community!

I just booked a Caribbean Holiday sailing on Splendor for end of 2021.   Our first RSS cruise, but have been on Celebrity and Oceania.   Although I realize Splendor was not able to sail this year due to COVID, those who have sailed other RSS ships can weigh in.

In my desire to enjoy planning as we lead into the next year (I’m calling it “cruise porn,” sorry for the cheesy reference, but necessary  after being home for almost a year), I was wondering if the CC community had recommendations on favorite dishes and experiences on their past cruises on RSS.   What are the “not to miss” elements?

Thank you and hope to meet some of you on our sailing!

  12. Thank you all! This has been super helpful. Haha I don’t even own a ball gown ... a little sarcasm there [emoji12]

I am feeling good about my packing list and am grateful to have a forum community willing to take the time to weigh in.

The Venture looks amazing - I am excited!

PS - Hysterically funny on the costume crowd. Definitely not me or DH - we are just excited to dress appropriately for the cruise and adventure, and see Antarctica!

  13. I recently booked Seabourn Venture (new ship launching in 2021) for an Antarctica cruise.  I have read a lot about what to pack for the zodiac excursions, but what do people wear between zodiac excursions?  For example, if there are two zodiac excursions per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, do people stay in their expedition gear all day?   Or do they change into street clothes then change back?

Many people have advised to wear a thermal layer then a waterproof layer for the zodiac excursions.  Are sweats appropriate to wear over your thermals while on ship, or do I need to change into "resort wear" when on the ship?

Also, Seabourn has a fairly strict dress policy in the evenings - but does this apply to Antarctica cruises as well?

I just feel like I am going to way overpack if I try to accommodate everything from expedition wear to a ball gown!   🙂

Any advice from those of you who have experienced a Seabourn Antarctica cruise would be much appreciated.

  15. Hi all,

I'm on a cruise line that isn't discretionary about bringing wine on board. I've read a bit about buying wine in Stockholm and it seems complicated. We are arriving three days in advance and would like to bring a case on board. Any suggestions on where to go?

    Thanks!

  16. Those back 4 penthouses are my favorite and I have been in all of them. I have never heard any noise from the MDR. You may however notice a fairly loud shuddering noise if they are trying to back into port.

I think your travel agent gave you great advice:D

    Crusingxpert,

Can you weigh in on whether these balconies aft on Deck 7 are a bit larger? They appear so...

    Thanks!

  17. Hi Moonhearts,

I agree with the other posters who think you will have a great time. Based on your posts, you are intellectually curious about things and one of those is seeing Greece!

I'm on the younger end of the "demographic" at 43 years old and am looking forward to interesting conversations with my fellow cruisers. No, there won't be waterslides and crazy shows. But you will find your off board experience amazing, busy, and fulfilling. Meaning, when you get back on board after a long day of seeing amazing Greek treasures in the hot sun, you might just want to settle in onboard the ship without another hundred things to see and do.

Unless you're 18, typically bars and night clubs on ship are off limits anyway. I was on a cruise with my parents at 15 and had a great time, even though I didn't meet many others my age. The time spent with them (now in their late 70s) was precious.

Glad you're being so thoughtful but take your own advice and just hop on and take advantage of this awesome experience!
