I know this is an old thread but looking for answers.  Us Citizen on a ship (cruise) from SYD, Australia to Hawaii (3 stops in HI), then a second cruise (same ship) from Hawaii (3 stops again) then continue with a stop in Victoria, then on to Vancouver and disembark.  Fly back to US from Vancouver.  Two TA's told me that there is no problem on this itinerary and the PSVA.  Other people say they could not book it per the cruise line due to the "Jones Act" Seems the cruise line calls the PSVA the Jones Act.  Anyone know if this itinerary is good to go??  Thanks.

Basically the Jones Act applies to cargo and the PVSA applies to passengers.

PVSA does not apply at all.  Your cruise starts and ends outside the US.

Very true, except you should say "the voyage" (which consists of two cruises).  I mention this, not because you are wrong (your answer is correct) but rather because people keep looking at each cruise as being separate, and it is is the combination of multiple cruises, ON THE SAME SHIP, that must be looked at.

Both legs are legal under the PVSA (one starts outside the US and ends in the US, and the second starts in the US and ends outside the US), and together they form a voyage that not only begins outside the US but also ends outside the US, so the PVSA has absolutely no jurisdiction over this itinerary.

As Chengkp75 correctly points out, neither cruise, nor the combination of the two, falls within the jurisdiction of the PVSA.

Thank you, AlanF.  I think the problem is I am using an ipad, which is where I organize all my composite pictures from DH cameras and our iphones via Airdrop, in one album.

Ipad does not let me put my finger ( no mouse) on it anywhere below the first photo to get a flashing cursor to keep typing before another picture.

When CC was compatible with Tapatalk, it did.

I will try what you suggest on my laptop Apple computer, and if that works, it means I would have to shift all pictures to the laptop and work off of that when posting, a bit harder for me for various reasons.

You don't need a mouse and you don't need to add text.  I don't have an ipad, but I assume you have four arrows (up, down, left, and right).  If not, this is just one more reason I don't have an ipad.

I use a desktop computer.  However, when posting photographs I use the following to add spaces between the photographs:

Use the down arrow to get the bottom of your post.  If necessary use the right arrow to move to the end of the bottom line in your post.  Then use the enter key to create blank lines.  I find that one blank line is enough ...

  3. I need help.Does anyone know who I can contact to get a group sitting for Dining? There are 4 couples going on the Oasis of the Seas in February and we all used a different travel agent. I called RCCL to get us to sit together for dining, but since we used different agents, he couldn't do it. We all have the same my dining time, but not together. So I would like to e-mail whoever is in charge of dining on the Oasis. Thanks

If you are on My Time Dining (which is the flexible dining option) then all of you have to show up at the same time to be seated together. However, if you are on the traditional dining (which is not called my dining time nor My Time Dining) then you need the booking numbers for all four couples and have the travel agent agent call Royal Caribbean and link the four couples for dining.

  4. I like the design of the Loft Suites. But what happened to the Solarium Pool? Seems like they are going to make the same mistake as NCL - optimizing a ship too much for a certain market... and when you move the ship the customers from their main market won´t be happy...

You do realize that we are talking about Royal Caribbean - the same company that thought it would be okay to dock in Galveston during a hurricane AFTER having a disaster attempting to have a ship sail through a hurricane.

  5. Well, I am really late to this thread, but I wanted to add a comment. I have done both a full transit (LA to Miami in Feb 2008) and a partial transit (Miami to Miami in Dec 2016). Both were on NCL [maiden voyage of the NCL Jade (but not the maiden voyage of the ship) and the NCL Pearl]. So why those two ships? Because both have forward facing balconies (my cabin was on the lower row, third from the port side both times) ...

If you want to see the larger photographs in SmugMug, just click on the photograph to the right of the thumbnails. Click on the left and right arrows to move through the album. Click on the white "X" in the upper right corner to return to the smaller photographs. The two arrows to the left of the white "X" will take you to full screen. The Esc key will bring you back. You can add comments to the photographs if you want (the comment section is just below the photographs).

  6. Cunard's history of allowing pets to travel with their owners goes back a very long way. My Dad worked for Cunard and White/Cunard back in the days when all types of animals, not just dogs and cats, were allowed on board. Owners paid for the kenneling of their pets, there was a vet on board to tend to them, and the owners were free to visit with and play with their animals in the confines of the kennel area. Animals of any type were not allowed in other areas of the ship. Animals needed certification for up-to-date necessary vaccinations for the countries the ship would port in and had to be confined both before the ship left home port and upon its return for a minimum of 10 days. Of course, that was back in the days before the "revolving-door" cruising that is the standard for the industry now, so there was plenty of time (usually 14 days or more) between sailings for the boarding and quarantining of the animals, cargo loading, and maintenance to be done on the ship. Back then, passengers did not have someone painting a wall or varnishing a railing next to them while they were lounging on deck. I must admit visiting with all the animals in the kennel was always a blast when the ship was between sailings. Roller skating through the crews quarters below ship, visiting the galleys where the chefs would make my brother and I lunch and fantastic desserts, and, in general, exploring every part of the ship are some of the best memories of my childhood.

    :)

Very interesting. Thank you for posting.

  7. I hate to say this... I really do... But the same thing just happened to me! I am beyond frustrated and didn't know about this a full day after I got the email! I will be sending off an email to my TA asap and call first thing Monday morning!

You guessed it, I cancelled my Deluxe + Voom package and rebooked it to take advantage of a better deal. And now my cruise reservation is gone and all my Cruise Planner reservations have been cancelled!

Just 3 weeks before our cruise!

First of all, I am really sorry this happened to you. We joke about Royal Caribbean's IT department, because, well, it is a joke. But this level of incompetence has me mad. I mean really mad. So, I'm being careful in what I write. How can I as a consumer rely on a company so skillful at ruining people's vacations?

  8. Not that would be noticeable, but too soon anyway. Give it a year: Reservations of travelers with ESAs noted on bookings prior to July 30 would be allowed to sail, the report said.

I would not notice even a year from now. 30+ cruises and I've only seen one fake and two real. And the fake one was ugly!

  9. I've done aft facing balconies, side facing balconies, front facing balconies and almost an inside facing balcony (got upgraded to a side facing ocean view balcony on the Allure).

Advantage of a rear facing balcony - great view and quiet (the only people that come that far down the hall are your neighbors. There is an extra advantage, if you have a corner wrap around balcony, of the 270 degree view. The disadvantages are disadvantages that the people above you can look down on you (lack of privacy), the long walk (which can also be an advantage), and soot.

Side facing advantages are that you can watch the world go by and convenience (you can get the cabin near the elevators or near something you plan to go to a lot. The main disadvantage is noise (everyone will be walking past your cabin) and they are not very unique.

Front facing balconies offer the same view as the captain has (but without the steering wheel and brake pedal). The views are fantastic. The cabins are very rare (most forward facing cabins are ocean view). It can get windy near the forward rail, but back under the overhang it is not windy. The disadvantages are that it is windy near the rail and you can't do anything wrong, as there are always at least two crew members looking down on you.

Forward facing balcony cabins (mine is the bottom row, 3rd from the port side) ...

  10. Thank you.

It didn’t answer my question tho. If my cruise is 7 days and we are “stuck” at sea for 10 would I then receive 20 instead of the 14 I “signed” up for.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Yes, the post did answer your question. The original cruise was four nights. The person was traveling solo in a suite. The cruise ended up being seven nights. She received 21 points.
