It is possible if you argue and yell enough they'll let you in, but the YC is one place where they are pretty strict about long pants.

A nice non-collared shirt will prob work. And as mentioned I see Italians in jeans all the time.

For dinner, I've never seen anyone in shorts.

But, like I said...if it means that much and you argue enough you can prob make it happen. Easier to just buy a pair of pants imho.

That's what you claim, your opinion, based on your experience but you've never tried, have you?

I'm not arguing or yelling with anyone. Just mentioning that some CruiseCritic users will try to push folks to push and test the limits. I wear pants. So I don't know why you're so upset. I'm just saying, I'd be much happier in shorts. That's a fact. I just shouldn't feel the need to wear shorts to make you happy!

Others say jeans are not allowed. We know that's not true. They don't yell or argue. They even have torn ripped jeans.

So sad that you feel the need to argue and yell to get things in the YC. Not a good way to enjoy your cruise. Take a deep breath, relax and you'll have a much better vacation.

It is always interesting to me how people "are 100% confident" that their answer is correct without any specific data to back it up.

For our formal evenings, we would reccomend guests would dress smartly such as black tie/dinner jackets, or alternatively, jacket with shirt/tie would also be suitable.
However, we would like to point that MSC Cruises does not enforce dress codes onboard.

For the remainder of the cruise, the general dress code is smart casual

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further assistance

    Regards

    MSC Cruises

You mentioned that MSC Cruises does not enforce dress codes onboard, does that include dining at Le Palmeraie on MSC Preziosa?

Yes, dress codes advised are purely as a guide only on all of our ships regardless of which bar and restaurant. This is by no means mandatory in any case

    Regards

    MSC Cruises

Sorry, forgot to include the e-mail confirmation that made me 100% confident. Although, I agree that on MSC you can get different responses from everyone you speak to.

A dining hostess (I think that was her title) overheard us discussing pizza and asked if we'd like one one afternoon/evening. (She interrupted our private conversation about not having time for pizza whilst on our excursion in Portofino) We said it would be fun as we'd never be back in Italy again. Restaurant manager said no way, not happening! (We understood it to be "Not happening in HIS restaurant") YC Director planned a surprise pizza on gala night for us!!! YC Director wanted to show him that it wasn't his restaurant. I've got a photo proof if needed.

Buying a kilt is a great suggestion. Searching kilts on Amazon! Looking forward to seeing photos.

  3. MSC have confirmed by email in the past that dress codes are only a suggestion and not enforced.
I wear shorts 360+ days a year. I have a couple of pairs of pants that come out in the middle of our Brazilian winter. I hate being told what to wear and am 100% sure that if I wanted I could dine in the YC in a pair of shorts. In 2019 a cruisecritic user argued so much that it was impossible that I almost wore my shorts to dinner to prove him wrong! But so far I have put my pants on for dinner in YC for our three cruises.
I do feel that someone should test this one day!!!

Agree absolutely, we tried afternoon tea on each of our three YC cruises and will not repeat the experience going forward!

hamrag, I can see why you won't repeat the experience. After our first MSC cruise I would have done the same but discovered that by politely bringing our disappointment to their attention something gets done about it. It'll never be like afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason, Savoy, Ritz or wherever  but they do try their best. Most Butlers have never experienced afternoon tea in another place and so are doing their best given the training they have been given.

    * How is the afternoon tea? Close to traditional standards? (I'm not fussy, really; just curious how solid their "tea game" is.)

Rather unpredictable. We asked on the Presioza and the Butler asked "Do you (sigh and eye roll) want the gloves and table cloth?". Afternoon tea is something we love so we said yes!
On the Seaview the Butlers had decided to cancel all afternoon teas without telling the YC director! Cold tea and baby stones (I joke not) were almost thrown on our table when we said we had come for afternoon tea. We left and had a chat with YC Director who promptly reinstated the daily afternoon tea. Our Butler was then given the task of overseeing afternoon tea for the rest of our cruise including a almost daily review of their scones by the YC Director.
We still love MSC and YC but afternoon tea is not their forte! Fingers are crossed for our Christmas cruise on the Seaside.

I don't know why MSC transforms a luxury experience like YC to such a bad "they try to fool me" experience.

I agree. On the Seaview we asked the Champagne bar if a glass of champagne was still included for YC guests as so every cruise is different on MSC. They said yes! So every night we passed by and had a glass of champagne. (just one!) We drink very little. On our last night we noticed the champagne had been charged to our account. We questioned concierge who said it definitely wasn't included and we would be charged. They didn't even ask for the charge to be signed for. I think that now they have a $ value for drinks to be included it will make it simpler for YC guests.

We have done many cruises with MSC but finally going yacht club with our 16 year old next year. Neither myself or her eat fish and the menus always have a reasonable amount of fish on them. We have always asked for a copy of the children's menu and both of us have ordered from this in the main dining room plenty of times. We often do a mixture of both menus and it has never been an issue!

I am assuming from reading this thread there is a children's menu in yacht club? can anyone post a copy please

Yes, there is a chidrens menu in the YC. I`ve ordered from it in the past. I too don`t eat any seafood so often order from always available or kids menu.

I disagree because I look at it this way....

If there was a "Yacht Club Only" elevator right next to the other elevators, would you use it? Most Yacht Club guests would use it. Think of hijacking the elevator as a temporary "YC Only" elevator. 😁

On some ships the signs says "reserved for Yacht Club guests" so we're happy to use them and never feel that we are hijacking an elevator!

Curious.  How would one do so?  Just show up at a dining room and expect to be seated?

We spoke to Concierge who asked us to select a time for the MDR. We had asked at MDR earlier in the day and they were so helpful. They said to come along at any time but confirm via concierge. Concierge were not so happy for it to be any time dining in MDR. So we selected a time. We were so lucky, our butler escorted us to the MDR to make sure everything was ok! Our server was so good and ensured it was a Christmas dinner never to forget!

With all the changes that are going on .....not sure we can depend on past experiences in YC.   BUT..

Our past YC experiences were very good...We were always offered options not listed on menu.

Some cruise passengers like the ability to select food at buffets and are more comfortable with MDR offerings.

That is the beauty of cruising, something for everybody.

yep! lots of changes. I do hope the YC keeps their children's menu!

After reading all of the post’s and looking online at YC menus the narrow choice alternatives particularly for the evening meal we feel the YC is no longer for us. It’s a shame because it sounded  really good but when we had a closer look it there were things that we did not like.

If you don't like the options... they have the always available options... or the bambini menu. I've tried both alternative options. Yes, I found the YC kids menu! Even managed to get a pizza one gala night!!! I'm sure there must be a way of getting food sent up from main dining room to YC. Intend to try this in December. Has anyone tried this?

  12. Just checked the MSC site over here in Brazil and it mentions a new $15 drink limit for the winter 21/22 season for the Yacht Club. Also the internet package has been upgraded from 4GB to unlimited for 2 devices. I know a few friends on cruisecritic predicted this would happen... it's just great to see it rolling out. Any updates in other countries yet?

I was not aware that this was possible.  Did the YC guests have a specific area and Stewards in the MDR?  If they were dining in the MDR nightly, why would they choose to do so?

When I sailed on Meraviglia in January, I tried to find menus posted to see what was being offered.  I don't think I could ever see a dining room because of the solid doors being closed every time I walked by.  I was curious.  If a YC guest could ask to have a dinner or other meal in the MDR, that would be another interesting experience, at least for me.

I was very pleased with the ambiance, cuisine, and service in the YC Restaurant.  But, as I just typed, it would be interesting to see what my fellow non-YC guests were being served.

(I did make a few surveys of the buffet restaurant offerings during my voyage.  Most looked good and varied.  But, I got the impression that the menu for lunch didn't change much--if at all--from day to day.  I did sample the pizza.  Very good!)

We were in YC on MSC Seaview for Christmas 2019. When we saw both YC and MDR menu for Christmas Dinner, we requested a table in the MDR. I do sometimes wish that we could get some of the MDR dishes sent up to the YC! I'm sure that in December we will do the same again for at least one meal.

My Motto: "Hope for the Best but don't be too disappointed if it does not happen".

love your motto phissy. we've got a seaside YC booked for December and will only know what is included when we step aboard with the knowledge it may change from day to day! but, on a good day the bar person may pour a moet instead of sparkling wine!

  15. MSC Seaview June 2018 Venchi was included.
MSC Seaview December 2019 Venchi drinks weren't included but crepes & gelato were included.

Champagne Bar champagne was included for first 6 nights but not on night 7!!! oh, MSC!!!

    YC on both cruises.

  16. Are they saying that granny, who doesn't want to cruise with them would be left to dine alone outside the YC?
If you're forcing granny to come along as a childminder the least they can do is book her a YC room! and let her join the family for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
If it's a family of 6, they're never going to fit in 1 room!

  17. It should be easy for you to join your oldest daughter and mother in their dining room or main buffet whenever you want. We managed to escape the YC for our Christmas dinner in 2019! We loved visiting the main dining room and intend to do the same in December - if we're back to cruising here in Brazil.

Or instead of booking yourselves a MSC Yacht Club Royal Suite, you could book a regular YC suite for up to 4 people. Although, it's usually about the same price for 2 YC suites for 2!

In 2016 we discovered that a couple of friends were on the same cruise as us. They were curious about the YC. We spoke to Concierge who arranged for them to have a butler escorted tour of YC and our Preziosa YC Royal suite. Then we met them for drinks by the regular pool deck.

This does look like they are making YC correspond to Premium drink package......until Winter 2021.

beginning Nov 1, 2021, out of Florida, drink packages change.

    no package corresponds to $12.
Suspect YC will follow package with $15 drink limit. Premium Extra.

phissy, I like your logic. An increase to $15 drink limit would be great!
