  1. I'll be on the same sailing. NCL Pearl is scheduled at the Broadway dock. It's the most convenient/closest to the main street (Broadway) in Skagway. You can see straight down Broadway from the front upper decks on the ship. The train pulls up to the front of the ship whereas as the train pulls up parallel to ship at the Railroad dock which is a bit farther from town.

The link in post #6 has a good map of the three docks.

That is good news that we will be docked at the closet pier. Still deciding on what tours to do. Will book when we get on ship and let the girlfriend decide. She doesn't like the cold so we may have to do something like the train.

  2. Skagway is small, and right on the water, so you'll already pretty much be in town when you dock ;)

The train isn't the main thing, just one of the things. We'll be going on a few hiking trails personally, the train is extremely expensive (we could go coast to coast on Amtrak for less than they want).

Some people stay in town, some drive up the Yukon Highway into Canada, some do the other activities (sled dogs, salmon bake, gold panning, etc).

    Thanks for the input.

  3. Just home from a wonderful trip to Alaska on the Pearl. Did 4 excursions that were booked through Norwegian, the first 3 were very good. The 4th one to the Butchart Gardens was a disappointment. I knew that it was an evening tour, but thought the gardens would be very well lighted. Several of us found it very hard to see the gardens and also hard to walk around them. I'd like to hear what other people thought about seeing the gardens in the evening.

What were the other three tours that you booked thru NCL. We are going on the NCL Pearl this weekend and still trying to figure out some good tours thru the ship. Thanks for the input about the gardens, a friend told me that they are good. May give them a miss if they are not well lit.

  4. Thanks for the info. We cruise in less than two weeks. We are staying at the Westin downtown and cruise on NCL out of Pier 66. I looked at the video of the light rail and decided that it too hard with too many bags. Our hotel is one block away from Westlake. The Stilla taxi sounds like the best option for us also. Have never used Uber. Does anyone know what it will cost for taxi from the Westin Downtown to Pier 66?

  5. The Port of Seattle offers bag storage at Pier 66; it closes at 3:30 PM but if you're flying at 5 that won't be a problem. https://www.portseattle.org/Cruise/Services/Pages/default.aspx

Pier 66 is basically at the bottom of a bluff with all of the downtown area at the top of the bluff. There's a skybridge that connects to surface streets on which you can walk to the Pike Place market, or there are a couple of options for an elevator up to the "city" level - one next to the Marriott Hotel across the street from the cruise terminal, the other a couple of blocks farther south inside the Pike Place market parking garage.

I'm sure NCL offers a city tour with airport drop-off, but if they don't, just store your bags at the pier, walk around the market and the city, then back to the pier, collect your bags, and take a cab or Uber to the airport, problem solved.

Thanks for the info. I want to be able to show the girlfriend Pikes Place and other shops etc before our flight. Good to know that the port can store bags. I will check if NCL offer a city tour.

  6. We booked a last minute cruise from Pier 66 on NCL. Trying to figure out the best options to get around. We are staying at the Westin, downtown near Pier 66 and Westlake station.

I see all the ideas for things like light rail, shuttle express. We may try light rail but need to do a street view to see how far to drag the luggage to the Westin from Westlake.

The only part which I am confused is the best way to get from Pier 66, post cruise, to the Airport. We have a lat flight at 5pm. Are there flat rate taxis at the pier 66 after the cruise or do I need to book shuttle express. If I use shuttle express then where do they meet and what time do I give them as don't know when we get off the ship.

  7. This will be our first Alaskan cruise so trying to figure what to do after the cruise. We have a flight at 5pm and the cruise ship gets in at 8am. I had seen about some type of luggage valet service where they take your bags to the airport, however someone said that NCL does not participate.

If there was a place to store out luggage for a few hours then we could explore the city. Does anyone know if NCL offers some post cruise city tour that takes you to the airport? In New Orleans, NCL offered something like this.

If we need to just go straight to the airport, then what is the best way to get from the ship to the airport? I had read about shuttle express, are they good? Also what is the cost of a taxi for two people from Pier 66 to the airport.

Trying to make my trip hassle free as possible.
