  1. This is an article from last summer that seems to detail certain reasons for the change to San Antonio.

    http://www.seatrade-cruise.com/news/news-headlines/valparaiso-cruise-calls-at-risk-on-berthing-labor-issues.html

Some people believe the real situation is not the labor problems in Valparaiso,,,,,the real situation could be that San Antonio port is cheaper for the cruises lines and they are interested in increasing the bottom line. This is not a good desition for the passengers because San Antonio is an industrial city that no have any interesting to show,,,, Valparaiso and viña del Mar are nice place to visit, regards

  2. Lasterria is not a location on Hotwire. Downtown or Providencia. That's why I am so confused.

Sent from my SM-N950U using Forums mobile app

I do not recommend the downtown because when the office finish their activities,,all employees go outside the downtown and will be empty and unsafe,,,best regards

  3. Looking at booking 3 nights in Santiago, using Hotwire. Do I want to stay downtown or in Providencia area?

Providencia Neighborhood is safe and nice,,,,also Bellas Artes / Lastarria Neighborhood,,,best regards

  4. We are booked on the NCL for the end of January. It has been rough trying to book this trip. First problem was trying was trying to book a hotel precruise. We had to decide between Santiago or Valparisio. It seems that many people use the Ibis in Valpariso. It seemed that some people complained about crime in the neighborhood and chaotic check in. I also saw Verso which is up the hill which is more money but seems to be a bit more quiet. Anyone who has any experience with these?

Second, we want to take a tour both our arrival day and before the cruise. The things that interest us are either Cajon del Maipo or a coastal trip on one day. And then a tour of Santiago, Valparisio and Vina Del Mar on the other. We want to take the funicular up to Cerro San Cristobal, see the flower clock, the Easter Island statue and Nerudo house. Our main interests are pretty scenery and photography but also like historical areas, historic churches, and quaint villages but not into wineries, most museums, seedy areas. We even considered driving to Cajon del Maipo from airport as we don't know if our flight will be late. Any advice as to if Cajon del Maipo or coastal towns are better for us? Any advice as to a reputable tour guide or company who would be reliable and not rip us off? There are so many on here and I don't want to get stuck in a foreign country when we don't speak any Spanish. I have used Viator with success in the past. Your response is very much appreciated

Hello in Valparaiso City you can find two good hotel in downtown, the first is the Ibis Valparaiso and the second is Diego de Almagro Valparaiso,,,,,in Cerro Concepcion Hill and Cerro Alegre Hill you can find several small boutique hotels with many restaurant, pub, coffea shop ,,,and good nightlife

If you need a private driver for transfer or tour you could contact privatedriversantiago@hotmail.com,,,,,, have a nice trip ,,,best regards

  5. We are scheduled into Valparaiso on Silver Explorer in March 2018, and as part of our trip planning are trying to get a handle on bus transport to Santiago airport.

While I have read many "comments" on this activity, there seems to be a real dearth of detail.

We have a 1am departure and are planning to spend most of the day (8am disembark) in Valparaiso, and figure we should be at the airport by 10pm latest.

Does anybody have specific experience taking the bus from Valparaiso to the airport, on a Sunday evening??

I have read that there are no direct trips to the airport - is this correct?

Also, is there a way to safely store bags while we explore during the day?

    Thanks, All

You are correct,,,no buses direct from Valparaiso to Airport,,best regards

  6. No, Valpo is the opposite direction from San Antonio to SCL. Look at a map of Chile. There is a straight shot highway from SA to SCL that taxis will use. There is nothing to see on the way.

Susie,,,,near the San Antonio port is Rocas de Santo Domingo beach.....on the way,,,,,Matetic Winery,,,,,,also the handmade craft artesian town " Pomaire ",,,,,the Undurraga Winery at Talagante Town,,,,,,,i am agree that Valparaiso is an old city and have more touristic infrastructure,,,,,San Antonio is an industrial city,,,,,but touristic operators are organizing new touristic places in the route from San Antonio to Santiago city,,,regards

  10. Are reciprocity fees charged on entering Argentina and flying out of Santiago? If so, how much are they currently. We cruise from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso.

The reciprocal fees to enter to Chile is only to the Australian citizen when they arrive to the international airport in Santiago ,,,if any australian citizen arrive by ship they dont pay any amount,,,best regards

  11. I just got notice from HAL, too, but my November cruise will now start in San Antonio. My travelling companion wants to overnight in San Antonio the night before the cruise, but I'm struggling to find a hotel that's not just a budget place on the beach. Has anyone stayed at San Antonio before and can recommend a hotel either in or near town?

For good hotels in the city of San Antonio ( near the port):

Hotel Del Pacifico & Casino San Antonio

    Hotel Sonesta San Antonio

About 45 minutes from the port:

    Hotel La Casona Matetic Wineyard

  12. Hello weatherman,,,,,all big cities in Brasil as Fortaleza could be unsafe but applying common sense you can go to Mercado and Future Beach,,,

    ,I recommended :

All visit to any place must be during the day,,,,,when the day is going dark is dangerous ( sunset)

Use Uber application or taxi for transport

Do not use jewelry or big cameras,,,,use only your iPhone mobile for pictures

Go to places with many people, do not walk in lonely places. In the Futuro beach stay near a " Barraca ",,,,,Barraca is a bar or restaurant in the beach that sells food and drinks,,,,near the owner or guy of the " barraca " you will be safe.

Keep your money in the security box in your hotel or on the ship if you visit only for one day, have only money for a beer or lunch or transport

The Brazilian people is very friendly and very hospitality and you will enjoy the beach and food.

Have a nice cruise to Brazil,,,i was there for holidays last October, 2017 ,,best regards

  13. Thank you--I would like to go into the Andes and maybe Vina del Mar, if time--we've already toured Santiago.

So far I can't seem to find a tour that is any reasonable price--$250pp is just too much for us. So if you have any tour/guide suggestions, that would be great. We don't have to have a private tour; sharing is fine.

Hello please contact privatedriversantiago@hotmail.com....they have nice tour at very reasonable rates....they will offer you an amazing program for you....best regards

  14. Thanks, Capriccio - I did check out the schedule and can see the Emerald Princess on there as well as the Island and a few other Carnival Corp ships. But.... the schedule was last updated Aug 18 :(

From the newspaper article linked here, it was only a few days ago that Carnival said they were moving ships too. I'm hoping it doesn't happen, but it looks like there's every chance it will. I was really looking forward to seeing Valparaiso.

hello Koolforkatz,,,,dont worry,,,, it is very easy to go to Valparaiso from San Antonio port,,,,,i,,,do not miss the Valparaiso city,,,best regards

  15. We disembarked in Valpariso several years ago and did a tour (The Van Man) that was great; walking tour of Val., wine tour, nice country restaurant, short tour of Santiago and drop off at the airport.

BUT: In Jan. we are going around the horn and again need a tour from Valparaiso to the airport. We enjoyed the first tour, but really don't want a repeat; besides, we are not wine drinkers.

Any suggestions for a longer tour that is not a wine tour? I have tried to find something that goes into the Andes ways, but no luck. I'd like it to be all day as our flight is very late.

Hello you can go by a tour to Santiago city in the morning and in the afternoon you can go to Los Andes Mountains , Cajon del Maipo and El Yeso Reservoir,,,,you can see nice landscapes and beautiful mountains and lunch in the mountains,,,,best regards

Both cities have good options for lunch especially fish and seafood.
