  1. Hi!  We are sailing on a 12 day cruise RT to Southampton next Saturday with a few days to travel first in the interior.  I would love suggestions for where to start my research.  It is very port intensive so we probably won't be on an excursion every port.  Obviously, I am and will read this board, but any other ideas.  I don't even know what to ask at this point.  Our itinerary includes Edinburgh, Inverness, Kirkwall, Glasglow, Belfast, Holyhead, Dublin with overnight, Cork and Portland.  Where did you start your research?  Thank you! Cindy

Just got off the Glory last Thursday. We always do early dining, so I can't help you about YTD.  They only charge for room service between 10 PM and 6 AM. We used room service on the day I injured my foot. I ordered a BLT which came with potato chips and a pickle spear. I also ordered 2 bananas. It arrived very promptly and was very good. And no charge. We did tip the young lady who brought it to our cabin.

Hi TNMIMI6, I would also love to see any FunTimes.  But since you just got off of the Glory, can you tell me if it has metal walls?  I don't want to pack a bunch of magnetic things if they are not.  If you post a review or have any tips to share, I would love to follow them.

    Thank you!!!

  3. I have not done the land portion but we were on the Noordam in September in an inside cabin.  I couldn't see the pull down bed in pictures either, but it was there.  Our cabin also had the fold out bed from the loveseat.  We had four people.

Here is a picture after we slept in the beds.  You can barely see the metal frame at the top of the celling.  It only came down about 3 inches from the ceiling when it's all put away.  If you have the King bed, I assume the ladder is on the end.  And it may have different placement in a different type room.

  4. Hello,

This is our first time cruising on Carnival and I have a couple of questions.  If we are doing YTD, will a dining room still be assigned to us?  Also, I would like to know what the free items are on the Room Service menu.  Can anyone tell me that or does anyone have a screenshot of a menu?

    Thank you!

  5. You do know that the side balconies have 180 degree view too - just of the side instead of the aft?

Personally I don’t like the aft as much because they are far less private.

I booked a Carnival Cruise today, but I returned from a phenomenal Alaska HAL cruise in September. It wasn't a party ship but it was a very happy ship. We loved the food and service. And Glacier Bay was amazing. The only reason I booked another line was because i needed a port we could drive to. We also rode the Coastal Classic train on Alaska Railroad and it was fantastic. It wasn't an excursion but how we got to our port. I highly recommend incorporating a train ride regardless of the line you choose.

  6. I picked my friend up for a few day road trip. As I watched in horror, he dug through the clothes basket (I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say they were clean) to find clothes to bring. Then he went to find his suitcase.

As you point out, everything did work out. Probably because no ship or airline were involved. He did some shopping when we reached out destination.

  7. My planning has mainly to do with attractions, transportation and accommodations. I pack the night before and know the necessities as I’ve done it so many times.

My problem is I’m thrifty and prefer to DIY so I have information on:

    1) where my ship docks or tenders

    2) A google walking map or public transportation map & schedule to each attraction or hotel (usually the most economical option)

    3) pre-booked entrance fees & estimated spending

    4) a blurb or podcast about the site for DW

    5) liberal estimated arrival and departure times for sites (DW shops)

I create a manual for each port which I remove from the binder the night before going ashore. I only do ships excursions when sites are a distance away or DIY is complicated as DWs stress levels aren’t as high as mine. I also know my limitations when it comes to communication in a foreign language.

I love this listing of what you compile. I did so much reading and research long ago. Now it's finally 8 days away and I don't remember where to find everything. Like where do I find the schedule for each port that shows where each ship will berth.

    And anything thrifty!

  8. Hello, we will be on the Noordam the last week it sails our itinerary from Seward to Vancouver. What is the weather like in September there? I looked and saw average high is 55, but I am wondering what is that on deck of the ship, walking around a town or on an excursion. Any experienced cruisers from mid-September in Alaska?

    Thanks!

  9. For our Alaska cruise on the Noordam in September, where do we store our luggage once we unpack? Is there room in the closet? I have heard in the past of cruises where they store the empty suitcases for you. Does HAL do this?

    THanks everyone!
