  1. An overview for anyone doing Low Carb (aka KETO) on the Regent lines. Currently on the Mariner but other ships seem to be the same if memory serves me right…

A primer for those interested: A low-carb diet is one that limits carbohydrates, primarily found in sugary foods, pasta, and bread. Instead of eating carbs, you focus on protein-rich whole foods and vegetables. https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb

It was easy to go low carb and keep our card intake to under 100 grams, while at home we would stay under 30 grams. Plenty of meats, fish, bacon, eggs and cheese etc. KETO mainstays. The cauliflower rice on curry nights was divine. And if we were to order a burger, hold the bun, the staff seemed to understand and take it in stride. A few times I forgot to say “NO FRIES”. My bad. So overall the wife and I were happy. If anyone from the Regent restaurant side reads this, some minor suggestions. The breakfasts could have some hard-boiled eggs, some frittatas/ quiche egg items, and some spicy Italian sausage options. And have some more avocado available as that’s considered a super food. For lunch /dinner it would be nice to have one desert made with Stevia or other sugar substitute and then identified as low carb on the menu or placard.

The bars seemed to have plenty of peanuts and olives, but we drank way too much, so we were bad in that aspect.

For the most part on this cruise my wife and I didn’t obsess over hidden sugars in BBQ sauce or salad dressing. At home we avoid seed oils and cook with olive or avocado oil, but for the cruise, we didn’t care.

  2. Reporting in (late). I'm on the Mariner too. Having a great time. Meet Wolfgang from corporate, who is onboard to help shake out the cobwebs. From my perspective everything is running well. Wi-FI is wonky and if you need a robust connection for a zoom meeting, you may be in trouble. IMHO Regent should pay more attention to wi-fi.

We had to prop our door open with our waste basket on Explorer (deck 8 forward) in 2017 and on Navigator (deck 6 forward) in 2018. The internet worked just fine when we did.

I guess. Never tried that hack deck 9 aft. Can we all agree that's an absurd hack for a NEW ship. Just sayin'... I'll repeat what I said above, It didn't seem to work any better on the pool deck.

I thought the upgrade was simply to unblock streaming websites, not a promise of faster speed???

Not at all sure. I assumed it was buying more bandwidth to allow for streaming, but you could be right. In any case email and Facebook simply didn't work most of the time. So if I was sitting by the pool, I couldn't read messages or read FB posts. ~sigh.

  5. Awesome time on the Regent Explorer. 5 stars. Took several cooking classes and each port visit was a joy. We will be back to Regent over and over.

That said, the Wi-Fi was a joke. Both mine and my wife's. The $9 daily upsell for "faster" streaming is an insult to the great Regent brand. Yes, I understand "satellite interference", and no one expects blazing speed, but time and time again the wi-fi didn't work or was so slow it was unusable. Regent shouldn't sell a premium speed if they can't deliver on it.
