So can anyone tell me what the average amount of money people gamble to get a "free" cruise. I have a family member who keeps getting offered "free" Caribbean cruises in a junior suite, both directly from RCCL and a land based casino. She's gotten into financial trouble in the past with gambling and some of us are concerned.

I don't think anyone can really guess because it really does make a difference on how much you win to be able to put back into the machine.  My husband does not gamble very much and he hit prime because he did hit one good jackpot and was able to keep playing with that money.  I do get junior suite offers and I bring between 2500-3000 per cruise and I had around 7000 points the last night.  I hope this helps!

  2. I agree that in the end, very few (if any) come out ahead! What we (the people who gamble) are saying is that when you are going to spend money in the casino anyways, the free drinks, free cruise, and other things do count when adding up what you won or lost for the cruise. My free cruise in a balcony on the Harmony of the Seas would originally cost me $2800.00 if I paid cash for it.  I brought 2500.00 on this last cruise as gambling money.  I played everyday and had lots of fun, and in the end I came home with around 1800.00.  Yes, I lost money, but I was still ahead when you add the cost of the cruise, drinks, etc...  (oh, and my next cruise on the Symphony is comped as well).  So, does it make sense? Yes, for me it does, but for someone who does not like gambling it will not and I get that!  In the end the people who do not gamble will ALWAYS come out ahead!

  3. We just got back from a Harmony of the Seas cruise. I went in as Prime not realizing we got free drinks in the casino. (both my husband and I ) I get free cruise offers at least twice a week, and we are able to cruise twice a year so this is what works for me.......

I chose the free cruise I want which are usually on the Oasis Class and most offers are for Balcony, a few for Junior Suite and lots for inside.  (we try to pick ones that are balcony if the dates work).  They let my husband and I combine are offers so we usually can upgrade the room if we like.  (this works if there are no cruises you are interested in with the offers they send you. You can just use the amount they give you towards any cruise you like) It will list the amount on the offer.

I bring with me about 2,500 to 3,000  and have fun playing slots.  I play pennies and alternate between 1.80 and 3.75 a spin.  Whether I win or lose, the money I bring would have been spent on a cruise anyways and now this is just bonus.  I always end up with free cruises, gifts, etc...  in the end so its always a win/ win!!!  I usually hit at least one hand pay per cruise, but if not the money can go fast.

    I hope this helps.

p.s.  I always say never play for comps, but in the case of cruising, why not?????? (as long as you are going to play anyways!!!)

  4. The day after our cruise we were driving from Tampa to Anna Maria Island. My husband began having chest pains so we stopped at a hospital in Tampa. They did an EKG, gave him some aspirin, and monitored him for two hours. Yeah, no heart attack!!!!! Boohoo a bill for over 10,000!!!!! The good news was that we had purchased a vacation insurance policy and they covered everything 100%. We did not have to do any paperwork or pay anything out of pocket! They were able to negotiate the bill down to around $4,000.00 but either way we would not have paid anything. We will never travel without it! We always purchase our insurance online and immediately when booking our trip. My husband has a pre-existing heart condition (stents) and he is still covered for heart problems while traveling. Sorry this was so long!

  5. Free cruises (actually complementary) do not receive C&A points. Includes casino , Pinnacle or any other complementary sailings.

However, if you spend any amount of money for an upgrade you will receive C&A points.

This was explained to me over the phone by a C&A rep and a Casino Royale rep.

I only cruise with complementary rooms through the casino. (around three per year) These do show up on my profile with C&A points.

  6. I spend TOO much time in the casino and although I know it doesn't make sense, but I also seem to win most the first two nights and hardly ever in between! I was recently on Harmony of the Seas and several of us were complaining that the machines were SOOOO tight (even the first night) and then guess what? The fourth night I hit two jackpots within a few minutes. (one was 1500.00 and the other 2200.00) these were both on the Wheel of Fortune. So I guess my complaining worked!! :D

  7. Yes, I am sure you will receive another offer very soon. I just got another one for a premier cruise today. I seem to get some type of offer every other week from the casino. I did one premier cruise on the Freedom last year. I honestly did not care for it as much as the regular cruises because the casino was so busy. It was very hard to get on machines or tables. I did have fun with the drawings and we won a few small prizes. I know its different for everyone depending on your play, but generally the premier ones are not free, but you do get a discount, and cash back. I think I got around 900.00 when I arrived at the casino.

  8. I am the primary pass holder and was wondering if I can check in without my husband. I know it says we cannot board separately, but can I go through security and wait for him to arrive a little later? We have been on several cruises, but this is the first time we are not arriving at the exact same time. Thanks for your help!!!!!
