You can contact agencies in Dubrovnik and that recommendation is very good but if you want tour by locals, I suggest to check small family agencies like Mont Travelers, Montenegro Lifestyle or Visit-Kotor, etc.  My best experience was with www.monttravelers.com Anyway, I am happy to see someone is really optimistic about cruising 😇

We also engaged Mont Travelers for our Kotor tour and Dubrovnik Driving Guide for our Dubrovnik tour. The experience was amazing, with highly professional guides. Their prices were very reasonable, and they were attentive to our time constraints as cruise passengers. It's always fulfilling to share positive experiences with small local companies, particularly in Balkan countries where support can make a significant difference. We're returning to ports again this year and eagerly anticipating it.

  2. Hi guys. We are all lucky that we are visiting the place like Montenegro. This will be our 3rd time. We did a few different tours there with local guides from Mont Travelers small tour agency. This time we are going to do the tour named the Hidden Gems of Montenegro. This tour isn't something that I would recommend for the firs time visiting but there is more to do around the town and instead visiting churches. We really enjoyed our trio to the mountain Lovcen and visiting small village(forgot the name) for the traditional food tasting and feeling the local spirit. If you really enjoy the wild nature than maybe the tour I booked is good choice for you too. There is a free tour catalogues so you can download it from the website and use it for creating your tour itinerary. These guys did a nice job and I see their website very useful for us. Have fun!

  3. Got back a couple of weeks ago and wanted to follow up on our day in Montenegro.

We did a private tour with another couple and used Mont Travelers.

We started the day visiting he old town of Budva. Budva is beautiful. If you just want to spend the day in one part of Montenegro, this was one has the most charm and it's not even close. From the walled old town to cobblestone paths to the beach and great harbor views, it's just nice and not overrun.

After leaving Budva, we headed for the Lipa Caves near Cetenje The caves are a good take and a great experience. After that one hour tour, we headed into the town of Cetenje. It's interesting and not very touristy, but it's poor and looks like it's stuck in an older decade.

One of the great things about Montenegro is the scenic drive around the mountain. I think there are 23 rotations, but I'm not sure. On a clear day, you will see your ship at every turn where it's tendered. The drive is a great part of Montenegro.

After Cetenje, our guide took us to a pretty remote area where there is an industry of several who smoke their own meats and cheeses and deliver everywhere, but some also serve outdoor lunches. We had smoked meats and cheeses with tomatoes and bread for lunch and the guide took us back to the smokehouse. It was pretty cool.

After that, we went to Kotor and got a quick tour of the old town. Much of is rebuilt and it's near the port. I'd classify it as a tourist trap. Every other place is a bar/restaurant or just selling gelato. We were pretty tired after spending 40 minutes there and headed back to the ship. I think we paid 110 euros per couple (not per person) and another 10 euros for admission to the caves which has a separate tour with their own guide. I'd recommend Mont Travelers and Montenegro to anyone. Going into this cruise, we knew very little about Malta, Montenegro, and not much about Dubrovnik, but, in many ways, it was our favorite Med cruise.

We did a similar tour with the same agency (Mont Travelers) and was fantastic too. The guide was friendly and excellent English speaking but that was expected :) Anyway we really enjoyed his company and our time in Montenegro. I'd like to everybody now about this company as it is one of the best, I am sure. On the web site of the company is a few tour suggestions with a nice description, itinerary and price list.

  4. Hi, my husband gets very carsick. Most of the reviews of excursions in the Kotor area say there is a mountain road with 20+ switchbacks for seeing nearby towns.

For those of you who have been to Kotor before, which towns will we be able to see if we want to avoid mountain switchbacks?

Will we have to remain in Kotor proper, or will there be other towns we can see?

    Thanks!

Hi, I suggest some of the private tour company for a tour of Perast, Budva, Jaz beach, St.Stefan and maybe one only one switchback above Kotor port. We did it with Mont Travelers for 120euros last year. It was nice friendly and professional, I highly recommend this company but you can find a lot of others with a similar offer. We had an extra hour with no extra fee so it was very nice of them. :halo:

Peter is the most creative, intelligent, well informed and entertaining guide I've ever met in 40 years of travel. He designed a wonderfully action packed and balanced day with unique combinations of off the beaten track little towns and nature. He provided a multi media experience enlightening us with Croatian music from funk to cello. He had informative iPad presentations and posters. He provided posters with extremely detailed instructions for optimizing the best sights and even avoiding stairs He provided a delicious local lunch for 10 euros. He was efficient and punctual. He taught us about history. He sang us original songs. We had the best day in Croatia with Petar.

Thanx for this useful review. I just email this company. This was very fast decision and research :)
