Man.  That stinks!  I sail on Feb. 20 so I will be watching and hoping PC is back to normal...or that they find a better alternative.  I already don't get off anymore in Nassau.

Nassau is a crap hole we never get off there. Were there last last tuesday stayed on the ship

We have 2 ships sailing out of Charleston...The Ecstasy and the Sunshine. (I live in Charleston)

I have not yet been to the port, but was told by a friend of mine who has that it took them FOREVER to get parked when they went. But that was several years ago and I do not know the particular details of the situation.

I did notice when I did my online check in last week that the earliest time you could get was 11:30-12 and I wondered what the deal was with that because it was my understanding that you could check in at 11. Apparently I am getting incorrect information all over the place.

We were just on the Ecstacy last week. Also had 11:30 -12 arrival time. We arrived at the port at 11:15 and were directed to the luggage drop off and got in pay to park line at the tents. Was shocked the whole process only took a few minutes. After we paid drove to the parking lot and got on the shuttle.I was surprised at how short a time it took.Went in the terminal and through security and directly to the counter to check in and on the ship. Must have been our lucky day!

We just got off the Ecstacy last week. Had one formal night. Saw one man with a sports jacket. Most people wore there best Walmart attire. I wore dress pants and a nice shirt. Alot people had on there nicest work tee shirts and shorts. Anything goes!

  4. I am sailing out of Charleston Sunday for the first time on the Ecstasy. Have sailed before on this class ship before so my question is not about the ship.Would like to know about the port. We are parking at the port and would like to have any information on the embarkation process at the port. Just a little curious as to what to expect. Our arrival time is scheduled for 11:30-12:00. Also we have not sailed on Carnival in a few years and would like to know if there is anything new we should expect. Thanks so much!

  5. Had a blast on the sailing to Bermuda with DW and the kids, though her and I reminisced a bit on our past trips with formal night dinners, specialty restaurants, and being able to float as we pleased without the kids (trying not to make it sound horrible!).

Anniversary is coming up in September and I wanted to surprise her with a quick trip - just the two of us.

In Laws have no problem watching our boys for an extended weekend (Friday - Monday).

I'm sure we can find some cheap airfare, and I'm having our TA look into it.

The question I have is - has anyone that lived in the Midwest (or far enough away from a port) found it worth a quick 3 night cruise just to get away? (I know that a lot of it is subjective, and it's all on what you want to spend... but I'm still curious about others' input!)

My wife and I are are retired and we do 3/4 day cruises all the time! We look for decent deals and go often! I try to do these short cruises about 8 to 10 times a year. Most of which we do during the off season! No kids and almost never had a problem with booze cruises. Enjoyed them all. After 3 or 4 days I am tired of eating and ready to go home. Take a short cruise you will enjoy it.
  6. Are there such a thing as last minute deals? It appears that a month or so before each cruise the prices go up! If I called the cruise line like a day or two before a cruise do you think there are deals? My wife and I are retired and can sail at the last second. Has anyone done this ? Thanks

  7. We are looking to book flights to San Juan on Southwest Airlines for December.

They open up their flights on Thursday for December. Is there a certain time of the day that they usually do this or could it be at any time?

    Thanks

    Bill

Southwest Airlines are currently excepting reservations through January 6 2019. You should be ok to reserve now!

  8. Agree, as I say all the time. Cost to cruise cheaper then 30 years ago, not even adding inflation into it. Cheaper then a week at Disney which has Doubled in last 10 years... I paid $3600+ in 1988 on a 7 nite on Sovereign for a deck 2 tiny Port Hole cabin. This Oct on Serenade doing a 12 nite Repo BOS/FLL for a Corner/Aft Balcony, Cabin 8168, paying only $2968.64 before taking off my Crown and Anchor discount... Extra's on Royal have always been there, paid for Golf/Skeet Shooting off back, Chops been on there and charged for 20 yrs. At they made least Room Service is better tasting and Quality, makes it worth it...

We had cabin 8168 on Serenade back in February! Its a GREAT cabin! Perfect location for privacy!

  9. For Port Everglades we have flown once and driven once. The drive is not bad getting there with the excitement but feels much longer on the way way home. For that trip we left late afternoon and stopped for the night in St Augustine. Still had over four hours in the morning to drive. Unlike flying to Orlando, the airport in Ft Lauderdale is literally right next to the port.

    Thank you!

  10. Driving to Port Canaveral is not bad at all. We live in SC and have driven to both there and Port Everglades. Regardless of driving or flying we always try to get there the night before. I feel for a 6-7 hour drive you actually don’t save that much time flying once you factor in driving to airport, check in, security, waiting to board, flying, baggage claim, and driving to destination.

We also live in SC and are considering driving to Port Everglades and Port Canaveral. Have sailed out of both ports.Port Canaveral does not really concern me too much but Port Everglades is somewhat intimidating. We usually fly out of Myrtle Beach or Charleston which is kind of a pain. Not really bothered by the drive as we have plenty of time to get there and back. Wife and I are both retired. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
