I haven't been on epic, but the night movies were in the atrium on the ship's I were on. I think they might have had one in H20 at 7?

They have a big screen in Spice H2O on the Epic, but I don't remember there being movies back there, it was always random scenery, for some reason. I always thought that was a lost opportunity.
But it's been a couple of years since we were last on her, things might have changed.
Yes, hopefully it’s different now...

After a long day of site seeing we enjoy watching movies outside on the deck. Does the Epic have this? We’re sailing June 27 out of Rome, thanks!

After a full day of site seeing we enjoy relaxing on deck with a movie—does the Epic have any outdoor movies like that on board? We’ll be on the June 27 cruise out of Rome. Thanks!

We did our first cruise with our then 17 year old daughter in 2007 who looked forward to the cruise with a great deal of anticipation but when we first got on the ship immediately stated that it was not what she expected! Oh oh! I was mortified. I was worried that we would have to "put up" with a sulking teenager for the entire 7 days.
Well..we insisted that she go to the teen club after dinner the first night. She said no, we said yes. We escorted her there after dinner and left her there. 30 minutes later I snuck back and found her sitting in the same chair sulking. Oh Oh!!
30 minutes later, after sneaking back again, she was gone. It seems she met a couple of other 17 year old girls and that was it for the cruise. They communicated by cabin telephone (only after noon, please). But with us, we insisted in meeting for dinner, which we did and rather successfully. She would get together with her friends after dinner. We also insisted that we go on shore together.
The ship (Caribbean Princess) had walkie talkies for rent but they didn't work very well so we gave them back.
A number of years later we did another cruise with her and her boyfriend. This time dinner was also together but we knew if, at any other time, we needed to communicate with her, we could find her at the (Celebrity Equinox) Martini Bar!
Glad it turned out better! Setting up the ground rules are a must!

Yes, there are phones in many (all?) of the public areas that passengers are able to use.
Thanks!

Oasis doesn’t have the IQ app so as far as I know there are 2 choices. Pay for WiFi for 2 devices. Or some have said there is a loophole on some ships such allows you to connect to the ships WiFi for free. You can’t surf the web or anything like that. But if you both have iPhones you can still iMessage for free. Again it’s a fluke in the system. Sometimes

Make sure he goes to the kids club the first night. That’s when friendships form.

Good plan!

Thanks everyone. He'll be alone so I just want to check in on him to see if he's finding friends or having fun by himself. He probably won't want to hang out with us "old folks" so just a mama's concern.

We have set “meeting times & places” and also leave notes in our rooms. Mandatory dinner together each night and honestly we all end up spending a lot of time together on the pool deck and with the outdoor activities

Yes, post-it notes! Planning on dinner for sure.

Communication with teens...is this even possible? Just kidding. I don't have kids, but use magnetic white boards on our cabin door for friends and family.
White board---good idea!

We had places to meet up each day and associated times. Messages on the room phones and post it notes.
Keith
Ah, msg on room phone! And can he call it from a different phone on ship to check in?

The Hub app which is available on all Carnival ships and is only $5 per device for the duration of your cruise to add the chat feature. No Internet plan required.
Wow! That's awesome! We'll be on RCI...would be great!

Yes..you TALK to them! At meals, at night...tell each other your plans...and have them adhere to "meeting" times.....there is little need for electronic communication on a ship. Simply tell each other what you will be doing, and where you'll be doing it...and finding each other becomes a breeze!
Um, yes, obviously face to face...however, plans may change for both of us if something comes up.

OP, you said "older teens".... what are their ages that you are concerned about them? Sincerely asking.
He's 15. Not overly concerned just wanting to check in every once in a while.

For those with older teens, how do you communicate with each other (whereabouts, plans, location) if you don't have the wifi package?

RCI are not big on screening movies in the same way as Princess so wrong cruise line if you are after the movies under the stars experience.
On Oasis and other ships in that class they screen films in the Aquatheatre when there are no shows. This is why they don't have movies every night.
Ah, ok, thanks. We were on Liberty and seemed to have more but maybe because the movies compete with the Aqua theater show there aren't as many...

I saw an August Cruise Compass and it only listed 2 movies in the evening at the Aqua theater for the same 7 night cruise we're on Nov 5th (not including the family ones earlier). Did I miss something...are there more throughout the week? Movies under the stars is something we really enjoy.

2 weeks---when we got an amazing deal on Carnival Breeze for 8 nights for $189 each. Hubby said, "book it!" And we figured out vacation time after that!
