  1. Last year we sailed the Muse in the Western Caribbean. We boarded early and toured the ship. Well worth the early boarding. Beautiful ship and met many nice people. I went off topic below, but the Western Caribbean distracted me, sorry...

Very enjoyable, but thought some of the shore time was short, especially Belize. In our opinion the only disappointing port was Santo Tomas. Sailing into the port was beautiful with the mountains, clouds & sun, but the waters were littered with trash and the port was pretty barren. The resort we went to was ok and the food was fair. I guess we were spoiled with the food on the ship. Also, the captain of the Muse was excellent. The tugs were ready to help, but he docked it smoothly without tug assistance.

The captain/driver of the speedboat to the resort said they were going to build a larger cruise ship terminal past the resort, in cleaner waters. He also told us that they try to keep the bay clean, but when heavy rains come, trash gets washed out of the mountains into the sea.

Loved all the food on board, our favorite restaurants were Indochine and La Terrazza. We decided to cancel La Dame and Seishin, not a fan of paying additional on an "all inclusive" cruise. But we have a reservation for La Dame this March on Silver Spirit, not sure if we will keep it???

I keep forgetting how beautiful my wife is...

  2. I had no problem getting the $1000 suite credit even though I booked 2 months before. Also, since I need to be in an accessible suite, I couldn't get an upgrade, but they took off the upgrade amount without me even asking.

  3. What time does the average Silversea passenger board their cruise?
We were on the Muse out of Ft. Lauderdale in March. The early posted boarding time was 2pm. As we were with family we didn't board until close to 3. There were maybe 4 or 5 other parties boarding but there was no line as well registered.

We are an average couple on our 1st Silversea cruise. I figured with a possible maximum of 596 passengers and an stated boarding window from 2-5, the crowd would not be large. I was correct and we went right through. My sister and her husband were a bit slower to board, but they were not going on the cruise.

As a side note, they filled in the form to join us on board before we left the port. We had a nice drink and tour and they went home and we stayed for a very nice cruise.

  4. Doug,

Welcome to the Cooler which you clearly haven't realised was started so that non-cruise topics could be discussed without apology so do by all means join in. We have found that most post in an adult and courteous way and so it's a chance to exchange thoughts and ideas without input from some of the intolerant lunatics often encountered. I am sure that you have much more to offer. :)

I know you were bought up in my favouite US city, and I hope on your trips to Daglonega you panned for gold and found some. We did! I use to spend a lot of time at Windy Ridge ....... and eat at Cumberland Mall.

OK, that makes sense. I got to it by following a person from a different thread. I appreciate your polite reply, I have seen many back handed compliments on some posts.

This is a good thing to have, I would hope that people view me as a person even if my opinions differ. Seems like many throw the people out with the bath water instead of learning why they feel that way. Open eyes.

I'm visit here later. Can private messages be sent in this forum?

Thanks for your information. Are you the one who does the videos?

  5. HaHa!! Why yes, now that you mention it...and I thought she was very well turned-out indeed. Still, I think of them as very 80s-power-suit. Or presidential candidate.
It would be nice if they had photos for the differing dress standards. They could do it by locale do the Caribbean and Alaska cruise might be a step down while Morocco would be more refined. It would be easy to add.

  6. Also agree, have been on voyages where not a single guest that we interacted with had heard of CC. There is also the issue that some of the longer term CC posters have given up on the the Silversea boards

Interesting. Makes sense. As a 1st timer on SS I was hoping to talk with some and meet them on board.

  7. Your Muse roll call is active compared to ours. We posted our 7/24/18 Silver Spirit roll call on September 8. Not only have we not had any replies: we've only had 16 views (and most of those views were probably us looking at our post). J & J
You can't even find the March 13th cruise on the Muse as a possible selection. It's like it never existed [emoji6]

  8. Thanks for the thoughts folks.
I have been looking at that for our cruise. It is hard for ours because it doesn't show on roll call, or travel agents sites or searches of the ports. They do now, but not for months.

I was hoping to talk with people leaving Fort Lauderdale on March 13. It's our 1st SS cruise and it has very special meaning for us.

Have fun and thanks for letting us know that if they do reply, it is later in the process.

  9. Well, I'm afraid that I don't really share the same faith in democracy as others, and perhaps predictably in answer to the question what would you put in it's place then I am more opaque. There has to be something between the two extremes.

In the UK we certainly have a rather illusory democracy where virtually no voter has any influence over who becomes Prime Minister except extremely tenuously. And if the accounts I've read are correct that it cost $6.5bn for Americans to produce their chosen candidate for the White House, that implies to me that it is extremely wealthy narrow interests that will decide what government does and that the vote shows how desperate American marginalised society is.

The core conundrum in my view that will cause democracy to implode is that the natural bed-fellow of democracy is capitalism, and under that model inequality inevitably widens. Currently there are 42 people in the world that hold the same wealth as the worlds 3.7bn poorest ie nearly 50% of the world's population. The world's richest 1% get 82% of the wealth. Most people I think would like to see a fairer distribution of that wealth so that no one should be thirsty, hungry, cold or have an illness that will not be treated. And there is sufficient wealth in the world to achieve that.If that means that those 42 people will have substantially less, or that 1% substantially less, then I am all for it. What that inequality causes is the unrest and dissatisfaction we see in the world's democracies. Most studies agree that democracy is now in retreat having had it's hiatus during the opening of the East-European states. Now countries that were previously reasonably democratic like Turkey for example are losing human rights and freedoms gained over an extended period.

It seems to me that so desperate were the American electorate that the protest voters and the positive voters very narrowly placed a man in the White House that seems the least likely to be fighting for the poor and oppressed and for the interests of those that still seem to think of him as "their man". In the UK we have more people that are homeless and a whole increasing section of society relying on food banks to avoid hunger. The problem is that in a capitalist democratic society politicians have to promise the electorate things that they shouldn't be promising, and probably can never deliver and it is those unfulfilled cycle of promises that cause protest voting which produces a protest but also far more serious unintended or unwanted consequences like some would say Trump. I think it is that degree of increasing frustration and anger that will eventually be the catalyst for extreme dissatisfaction with the illusion of democracy. Democracy gives you the right to be extremely poor.

On the other side, it seems that the natural bedfellow of monarchies is benevolence of some sort and often with dictatorships and obviously communism comes some form of socialism and that produces dissatisfied people eager to be in control of their own destiny's and wish to be capitalists. Or so it seems. But it seems to me that on the whole the Chinese seem more satisfied now than they use to be ….. but how do we know? They seem more frustrated that they aren't getting rich quickly enough.

The system that has produced Trump and that has produced a completely emasculated government that we have and that produced the EU without any citizen voting for it has too many warts for me. I'm not clear how to produce it but what I want the outcome to be is a fairer distribution of wealth in the world. How? I do not know.

That's my aimless incoherent illogical ramblings over with for today! :)

Although I don't want to read political statements on a cruise site, I appreciate your input. Not degenerating the president, but not extolling him either.

There are many things wrong and many different reasons they are wrong. I'm not going to go into it on our cruise forum. But I will say it is a sad state of affairs in all sides.

I just want people mad at me because if this photo [emoji1] ee9a765c64481b6c15860dc4ccf406d5.jpg

  10. Great information JP! (or Chris?).

Hope you enjoy Atlanta. We're actually about 45 minutes to an hour drive north of the city. We love it up here, but don't venture into the city that often. No real reason other than there's so much to do up here that we don't really think of going into the city.

I grew up in Atlanta, neat Buckhead, before Cumberland Mall was built. We used to love going to Dalonaga, Helen and areas North. Also boating out of Bald Ridge Marina at Lake Lanier. That was where 400 ended back in the day. Life insurance agent was in Norcross. Sorry, I miss Atlanta at times. Not now with the crazy traffic.

We are on the Muse on the 13th. Was hoping you and Norcalman were in that cruise, but your's will be awesome.

Have fun. It's our 1st SS cruise as well.

  11. Hi Napria! We (my partner and I) will also be on board. The Wind was home for me for nearly 75 days back in '05 and you will have a great time. We live in Buckhead so quite possibly will be on the same flight to SJ. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

    RnR

    Norcalman,

I was going to ask if Napria was going on the March 11th cruise on the Muse. It's our 1st on SS. Then I see that you live in Buckhead. That is where I grew up.

Left in the mid 70s, but brought my wife there in 2015 and showed her where I played football and baseball. My how things have grown. I had been back, but even since then it changed, like everywhere else in the country.

    Have a great trip.

  12. Here is a site with hotels and if they have shuttles or not and the cost. Not sure how accurate it is, but it is a starting point. I separated the periods in the first part of the website address as I am not sure if paying links is ok.

  13. I said “our experience”...obviously every ship every cruise isn’t going to be like what we have experienced. But I would say that people in the bar til 4am certainly is the exception! And I never said we were the youngest...but the ships skews older than other lines...

I will be 56 (my wife is a tad bit older) when we go on our cruise in May. Safe was a concern as well. Then I realized it didn't matter TO US as we are going for the itinerary and the ship and what it provides.

If the people are older or younger, it doesn't matter, because the cruise is what we choose to make it.

I am very social and my wife is not. She has had to become more outgoing and I have learned that there are situations where I should be more reserved. That said, I believe that she is more suited to meeting new people than I am.

I am sure that we will meet a lot of nice people, but if we don't, it's not going to ruin our cruise. We have had to adjust to some lifestyle changes the past few years which forced us to stretch ourselves.

I will be the obvious one on the cruise because I'll be will the prettiest girl on the cruise. 63 days until embarkation!

  14. This will be our first Silversea cruise. Reading the comments it sounds as though you all know each other for years. That is terrific.

There is a solution for the TV sound issue by using headphones. I use them to not wake my bride every night and she is on the same room with no walls between us.

I saw that the dress code for La Terrazza had been reclassified. We are scheduled to be dining there on formal night. I didn't see what the dress code is that evening at La Terrazza.

I have not worn my tux or tails on over 20 years, although I'm willing too try to fit them on this older body.

I look forward to tnt cruise and the personalities that go with it.
