As best I know, AARP is the *only* place to get GCs at a discount.  They used to be 10%...now only 8% but that's better than 0%!  You do NOT have to be an AARP member...just join their free Rewards Program.

    Thanks

I didn't realize you didn't have to be a AARP member to buy thy discounted cards.

    I appreciate the help everyone!

  2. Would anyone who's sailed on the Pride of America since the 2022 restart be able to share? We've seen postings elsewhere with the Aloha Cafe nightly themes. We have a few specialty dining vouchers to use and trying to plan when we want to book them.

    Thanks

Question about Haleakala - if we take a tour, will they let us off the ship to catch the tour at 3am for sunrise?  We are doing an overnight, so two days in Maui.  We would try to do it technically day 2.

Is the boat tendered in Lahaina?  It doesn't say that it is on our itinerary, but then several people on these boards state that it is a tendered port.  If that is the case, i doubt they would tender us in at 3am.  🤨

On the flip side - if we do a sunset tour and dinner, how late do they let us back on board?  Especially if it is a tendered port?

I would appreciate any advice please!

    Thank you!!!

If you're on POA, you'll be docked in Kahuli.

  4. We stayed at the Ala Moana in 2006 (was there for a conference and did the POA after the conference)- it's just outside of Waikiki, on the west side of the Ala Wai canal. We enjoyed it- close enough to walk to whatever we wanted in Waikiki without the expenses. We are going on the POA this November for the 2nd time, staying at the Park Shore this time.

Closer to Honolulu, there are several food trucks at the Waikele shopping center.  Which is also convenient if you are driving to the North Shore.

    Leonards Malasadas are my favorite

Thanks. Are the trucks in the shopping center parking lot?

Plenty of other food trucks serving a wide range of items in Kahuku, behind Giovanni’s shrimp truck there is a great fried chicken sandwich truck called eighty chicken sandwiches.

    Thanks! I appreciate the info.

  7. I've been reading up on the shrimp trucks on the north shore of Oahu and really want to try one (or more) out when we're there this fall. Are there any other food trucks other than the shrimp trucks? My wife has a shellfish intolerance and can't have any/have to avoid cross contaimination.

    Thanks!

So maybe price out some of the less expensive properties I mentioned (Waikiki Park Hotel, Queen Kapiolani, the Marriott Laylow, Sand Villa Waikiki, Aqua Bamboo, White Sands Waikiki and Halepuna). You don't know what you don't know. You might enjoy the Diamond Head side of Waikiki and Queen's Beach and Kapiolani Park.

Over Thanksgiving, there's at least a $200 per night difference between hotels in Waikiki and ones just in the other side of the canal. If target spend my money doing/ seeing things

  9. We stayed at the Ala Moana years ago when we were there for a conference and then the cruise. Just outside of Waikiki on the other side of the Ala Wai canal and for us was easily walkable to Waikiki. We're likely staying there again this fall due to the significant price difference. And we found the Ala Moana Beach to be much more pleasant than the beach at Waikiki.

Lots of restaurants will be open and serving a thanksgiving menu, one of my favorite restaurants is Signature Prime on the 36th floor of the Ala Moana Hotel.. great food and amazing views.

Thanks for the suggestion. We're likely going to be staying at the Ala Moana, so that would work out perfect.

I assume you have hotel reservations already? Where are you staying?

Thanksgiving Week is one of the single busiest weeks in Hawaii so pretty much everything is open and restaurant reservations at the top places fill up quickly.

If you are staying near the Ala Moana end of Waikiki, I love 100 Sails in the Waikiki Prince Hotel. Start checking soon for reservations to open up.

Thanks for the suggestion, we'll check that one out. Booking the hotel this weekend, still mulling over the options, but likely staying at the Ala Moana. We stayed there years ago when I was there for a work convention and found it pleasant, plus easily walkable to the Waikiki area.

You'll have more of an issue of finding a dinner reservation than things being closed-- it will be a very crowded time to visit. Lots of folks fly over from the west coast. If there's something you want to do/place you want to eat, make a reservation as soon as you can with them.

Thanks for the advice. We'll scope out some options and see what will be taking reservations

  13. Aloha-

We are sailing on the POA on November 26th, flying in on the 24th (Thanksgiving). Are there typically restaurants open near Waikiki and the convention center area? Any activities likely open/operating?

    Mahalo!

  14. Does anyone have recommendations on a snorkeling excursion to Molikini? We'll be on the POA in late November 2022 and would like to do this the first day in port (planning to do the Haleakala sunrise the morning of the second day). We'll likely have a rental car, so it would have to be either a tour that picks up from the pier or one a bit later in the morning so we'd have time to pick up the rental car.

    Thanks

  15. My wife and I are planning on a Hawaii cruse for November 2022 on the Pride ofAmerica. One of things we're interested in is seeing Haleakala, but 2 options have intrigued us. We've seen lots about the gorgeous sunrise excursions, but we also came across a sunset with stargazing one as well. Had anyone done both and could recommend 1 over the other?

Are we allowed to bring our own camera on the excursion with Carnival?

We've gone scuba diving before and we're not told until the excursion started that there would be no personal cameras allowed.    Just don't want the same thing to happen!

Did not see anything I'm the write up saying no personal cameras, just curious what they say when you actually get there!    Not worried about damaging the camera!

I'm not sure, but I suspect they'll give you a hard time. You could check with your vendor. There is a camera person that follows your group if you sign up for their package. I think it was like $50, we split it with another family that was with us on the trip (they would only give us 1 thumb drive though, so I just downloaded it on my computer and gave it to the other family). They wouldn't let us wear our watches on the tour (Samsung and Apple watches).
