  1. We are in the same "boat" as you, with 28 Carnival cruises and tired of the mundane entertainment or lack thereof.  We are going to try MSC Seaside in October to see how the other half lives.  They seem pretty rigid, giving us a 12:30 embarkation time without us choosing it.  We won't be there by 12:30 ! Dress attire will be an issue with us since we travel lightly and not fancy.  But will go with the flow and throw in some dressy clothes. Keep us posted as to what you see.

  2. Carnival docks at Amber Cove - Picture 10:00.  All other ships dock at Taino Bay which is 1:00.  Carnival passengers docked in Amber Cove need to take a taxi to Puerto Plata, which is about $35 for 5 one way.

Passengers docked in Taino Bay can walk into Puerto Plata.

Monkey Land is directly in Puerto Plata tucked in a corner of one of the squares.

  3. Was supposed to be a 2 hour tour.  Island is only 7 miles long!  We went to Space shuttle, souvenir row, Salt Flats that are no longer salt flats and just a bunch of rocks and water BUT again there is a bar and another souvenir shop.  No Flamingos since ATV's scared them off and they were flying away as we pulled up, and a beach for 10 minutes.  Guide was in an SUV with a bullhorn in the front of about 8 golf carts.  At this point offered us a tiny bottle of water.  Saw broken down homes over rough terrain and a few donkeys and stray dogs.  HORRIBLE TOUR AND A WASTE OF $170.  Go to Margaritaville instead.

Do you happen to know where handicap  parking is? How far is it from the shuttle to the ship? Do you have to take your life jacket to the muster drill. I had a spa room last time we went on the Sunshine I was disappointed they did not have a aroma pool.

"Handicap" parking is in same outside parking lot, but a bit closer to terminal garage.  Still a bit of a walk to get there.  They offer you a golf cart shuttle if you need it.

No life jacket needed any longer.  When you get on board, drop your carry on bags in you cabin (even if hallway doors are closed over) and leave.  Go right to you assigned muster station and it's a 2 minute experience with signing in and being shown the life jacket drill. No crowds and very easy.  Then go to lunch !

Hi, I’m curious to hear what the mask culture is like on Carnival from anyone who has sailed since the august 2021 changes were made. I’m sailing on a Dec 26 sailing on Horizon.   I have read the mask policy but am wondering how strictly masks are enforced, especially when just roaming the ship indoors.

For example, is it like being on a plane where if someone sees that your nose is not covered, they are immediately going to say something?

(not trying to start any kind of discussion on covid, masks, safety, protection, personal freedoms, etc. just curious about the actual process right now.)

    thanks!

Just off Magic B2B and no masking by many.  Signs were up but no one paid attention.  As a result, we just tested positive for Covid after a year and a half of being so cautious.  Disappointed with Carnival.

Appreciate the review and information, we sail Oct 17th for six nights.  We sailed on her inaugural year  for 12 nights RT Barcelona and LOVED it all.    It will be interesting to see the difference 10 years have made on wear and tear but regardless I'm sure we will have a blast. 🙂

Was also on that Med sailing but didn't get to experience the ship much since it was so port intensive.

I live in Northeast Florida, a hot spot. All the Walgreens and CVS that do testing show no appointments available for 2 weeks out. Our health department does testing, but only on Tuesdays and Thursdays so any of those are currently not open for me unless things change before our August 30 Magic cruise. I can go to the urgent care and get tested but charge is $50 unless you’ve been exposed.

  8. Since no one can reach Carnival including my TA, can someone venture to guess when the 72 hour covid test begins and ends?  If cruise is on Saturday, can test be taken Wednesday for Saturday arrival onto Ship which is 4 days from test date to Sail date or must it be done on Thursday which would make Saturday the 72 hour window.?  Is it 72 hours from the results or the actual date of the test?

And B2B, will test be done at port free since we can't get a 72 hour test in the middle of the ocean.

  9. What is the gut feeling from everyone on the probability of this ship sailing?  It's the second cruise out.  If they find people sick on the Aug 1 sailing, will they cancel this one?  We will have driven 8 hours to FL before they will know for us to be denied boarding?

We are from SC and not in a Hot Spot.  What States are you are from?  Concerned that since not many Carnival ships are sailing within driving distance, that many hot spot states will be on board.

    Thoughts?
