Interesting, thanks. From what I understand it’s magnetic closures in iPhone/iPad cases that deactivates the card rather than the devices themselves.Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

What's wrong with being a newbie? Isn't everyone one at some point? I love being a newbie and I really appreciate the guidance of more experienced cruisers. That said, I personally find the lanyards annoying. All the bouncing around messes with my freedom of movement. As someone whose smart phone is usually glued to my hand, I wish I could keep my room card with it in its wallet case. On my first cruise on the Veendam I found out the hard(newbie) way that the electronics of it erases the card data. I have heard that this might be different on my next cruise on the Koningsdam. Does anyone know anything about that?

Omg, so hilarious. Best post ever. Thank you Rocketman! If you turn that score card over, you'll find the "Fashion Police Scorecard". It's very similar, you get points for spotting inappropriate dress. Be sure and set up a group competition at your table in the MDR. Only the first person at a table to spot gets the points. For $5, you can register your card with the matre'd. On the last night, the matre'd awards a bottle of house wine to the table with the highest net score, all cards. There are special categories. One for those who crawl around under tables to spot those wearing shorts. Another for "Best Fainting Spell" awarded to the person showing the most outrage at a ball cap. "Best Actor/Actress" for the best complaining scene with the matre'd. Some one should start a thread on cruise critic to compare cards for an all time best score.Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

And on that note...Sorry, just couldn’t resist! I also feel that people should make the effort to dress nicely or just use one of the less formal venues. If we don’t want to dress for dinner, we go to the buffet.

Plenty of space on a cruise ship to offer choice! So they should ban all music in all public spaces? Even some funeral homes play soft music.Trying to please everyone pleases no one.

[emoji852]️The Seaview Pool as well as inside Lido definitely had music piped in on Oosterdam on our 10/21 PC Transit. Easy listening and very good!Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Does the Seaview pool(aft of the Lido) have piped in music too? This is the mid ship pool, which on every one of my 16 cruises is the center of sea day, daytime activity. There are also a few hot tubs, tables for dinning, ping pong tables, a big area where they sell cheap stuff like T-shirt’s and hats, a bar and a hamburger stand. With or without music, this area is not going to be quiet between 9am And 3pm. No way this should be a music free zone. Perfect place for celebration, maybe not so much meditation.Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Good question. I certainly understand it's appeal to some. So I'm hoping there will be a music free deck to escape to on the Kdam when I cruise in March. What would you suggest?Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Piped in music = way too mainstream.Your mention of energy is so spot on. Thanks for this thoughtful reply.Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

I really don't get how quiet/no music = library/rest home. I am 60 and consider myself a 'music person'. But just not 24/7. If music genre isn't to someone's taste they should have a place to go where there is none. Never been on Zdam. Aren't there at least 2 pool decks to provide this choice?I guess there are some who would wish that the entire ship was either a library or a rest home.Cruisers select a ship based upon many attributes attributes, including ambiance.
This is not about no music. It is about only the music that I like, at the volume level that I like, in the ship locations that I want it, and only during the times that I deem acceptable. Other than that...everyone else bring their own tunes and earbuds.
When you think about it, it is not much difference than the essence of the big gala night/formal night discussion and opinions.

I [emoji179] Ella!Fine, then. We'll play music all the time, at a volume everyone can hear. I'll select the playlist, with consideration for what you want to hear.Do you prefer Ella Fitzgerald or Rosemary Clooney? Harry James or Kaye Kaiser? Frank Sinatra or Michael Bublé?
Or, maybe HAL is just not the best match for you.

Not the library, but nature! I personally (especially at 8 am) would rather hear the sound of the ocean, perhaps sea gulls, etc. I guess some people on cruises are in relaxation mode as opposed to celebratory. I'm 60.Well, did not expect such a lively response here. Well, it’s two days later and I’m back at the pool, just 8am.To clarify, I’m not suggesting loud music by any means, but audible. As a reminder, this is a pool in the middle of the Caribbean with a bar, taco bar, great views, great weather. It’s not the library! Again I am in no way suggesting belly flop contests, but something that perhaps fits the occasion. I just asked the bar keep again about the music. He just laughed.
That said, and I just skimmed the responses, folks asked about the after effects of dry dock.
New carpets look nice. Our room, a Neptune Suite is excellent, big TV, clean modern look. Concierges by the way are worth their weight gold. Great problem solvers. Big problem on board that I’m aware of is the incredibly inconsistent air conditioning. Our stateroom has been fine but some public areas, especially the elevator lobbies have been really warm. Very inconsistent too in the lido buffet area. Also, more early in the cruise, some bad smells, especially starboard side, aft of mid ship, on the promenade desk.
I’ll be just hanging by the pool all day, so fire away with questions if you want.
Ps, internet pretty good. Interface well designed.
