Just returned from Hawaii on April 8. This is the third time we have been on POA  in the last 10+ years and this time we took our granddaughter, her husband and their two year old. We flew over on March 25th and we stayed from the 25th to the 30th at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We were in 7094 which is an obstructed family suite, which had two large floor to ceiIing windows in the main bedroom and a large window in the secondary bedroom.  This is only the second time in many years of cruising that we have have not had a balcony but I didn't want to worry about my great grandson, also was they were first time cruisers so I wanted something that was midship and had two bathrooms. We  had a great time!

If you have any questions, please let me know. I saved the daily sheets so can give you an idea what happens each day.

How obstructed was the view? Would you pick that cabin again?

You cancelled and rebooked.  When you did that you lost whatever offers you initially had and gained whatever was currently in effect.

YEP! That's what happens. Sometimes you can't have it all (sometimes you can!!).

Sailing 8/25 on the breakaway mini suite booked thru casino dept(great deal)...received upgrade email minimum to sniff the haven is 500$ per person bid...question does this bid minimum change as per booked cabin???closer to the sail date does this bid minimum decrease????or has this newer bid process eliminated getting a steal from ncl????on another note I can’t say enough about ncl’s casino dept we go on 2 cruises a year we moderately gamble slots/tables and they really make it worth our wild to stay with ncl!!

question #1 - the minimum bid is x2. If there are more than 2 people in your cabin, they are not charged. Not sure I answered what you were asking but didn't totally understand the question.

question #2 - NO. Buuuuuut sometimes, Haven prices will drop and paying the difference comes out to LESS than bidding. We've done that several times.

    questions #3 - See answer to #2

Be advised, that with your bid, gratuities may change. And you also may not get any additional specials that may be offered now, but that weren't at the time you purchased your cabin. Which is another reason why comparing the prices vs bid is important. Got make sure you're getting the best total package.

I'd pay up to 1000pp or even more from Mini suite to get into Haven area.  I know this will come with a whole bunch of disagreements and some agreements, but that is MY preference.  Just so worth it to be in that environment, the simplicity of cruising when Haven.  The quiet, the service, the space, mostly that, the space.  If you got a deal on the mini, treat yourself.

SAME! 1000% agree. Customer service is exceptional. Need something? Want something? Done and done. Hard to travel outside the Haven anymore. On the smaller ships, the true suites will do, if the Haven isn't available.

  5. Thanks! That's great advice! We will certainly keep our eyes peeled. The last time we went - the line wasn't that long (up to that point) but the way it winded around around inside and then behind us it was down a public sidewalk... It was really weird.

  6. We have a question about boarding in Seattle. We’ve boarded for Alaska before and the lines into the building were long and then windy once you got inside (going/waiting to get through security). If you’re in a suite, does priority boarding mean there’s a separate line for suite guests?

  7. I was on the Pearl the previous week to the OP in 2016 and we were in a 2br Family Suite (non Haven) in Cabin 11530. We did not have access to a private area for glacier viewing. I do know of someone who was on the Jewel in 2015 in a non Haven aft penthouse suite and they were given access to a private area in the Haven for their glacier viewing day. I'm not sure if it depends on the ship and/or even the concierge.

As an FYI they opened the bow up for everyone while in Glacier Bay and that was pretty cool. If open you can access it from deck 8. I will echo what others have mentioned when it come to Glacier Bay and viewing and that is you want to watch from different vantage points on different decks. Lower and higher decks give a totally different feel and view.

We aren’t in the haven but I hope we get to be a part of the private viewing! Either way, we have our balcony and that should be enough. Thanks for the info!!

  8. I know this thread is a couple of years old but am still hoping you can still help me out. Do suite guests get a “private” area to view the glacier? Someone had mentioned to me that they do but I haven’t found mention of that anywhere else. We have the 2-bedroom suite booked so we have a balcony so not a big deal either way - just curious.

  9. We have the jokers cruise booked and they called and offered an upgrade to a suite. I wasn’t sure if the suite came with all the typical suite benefits since it’s a charter (UBP, dining, etc). Does anyone know?

I’ve sent a follow up email to sixthman but figured I’d see if anyone else knows from experience.

  10. Thank you so much for the quick answer. I'm going to be in Honolulu for 2 days before our cruise .... now I just need to find a wine store (don't think I want to bring them in my luggage from Maine). Thanks again, Jan

Actually we put ours in our checked luggage. Worked out fine for us. We just picked a couple of our favorite wines and enjoyed them on the ship. We had no issues with the wine in our checked baggage.

  11. My girlfriend and I had the same delema as the OP so we brought two 20oz insulated drink containers with us, they are sleek and small and perfect for excursion days as well. We simply get 2 drinks each, transfer to the containers, then order one drink more of each type, so we have the original glass to drink from. When we need a refill, we have stored drinks in the insulated containers at a nice temp, especially if you keep them in the mini fridge while enjoying the first drink.

That made our balcony time much better in our opinion and we didn’t have to worry about spillage on the way back from the bar.

I hope this helps and enjoy your cruise!!

That’s a phenomenal idea!! So would you just order straight shots or actually mixed drinks?

  12. Depends on time of year too. I haven’t heard many complaints about summertime but we had a pretty choppy couple of days in September on our Alaska round trip Seattle on the Pearl. We really enjoyed it though. We have another booked but for May this time.

I believe that when we had choppiness, it was outside of the inside passage.

I don’t remember any of the ports being tender ports on that trip.

Right now, NCL has 3rd and 4th guests free on some Alaska cruises... maybe reach out to them and have them arrange it for you. We always just have our consultant sort that all out for us...since 2008. He probably wonders why we haven’t figured it out yet.

Both of our cruises had Glacier Bay. That being said, NCL’s bliss is supposed to be incredible!!

  13. Hi!

You should get all the perks of platinum for you and tour guest.

By default your DH will get the benefits of your tier. That’s how it has worked for us and that’s how it should work for you. Even the tour.

If for whatever reason they don’t accommodate, contact the Latitude Rewards desk. I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t know. We’ve never had an issue.

    1. Yes. And yes.

    2. Contact latitudes rewards or guest services.

    3. I think there’s a $$ limit on the wine. So you’d have to pick a wine within their $$ limit.

  14. Gratuity prices don’t vary from cabin type to cabin type. They are the same. You won’t have to pay any additional monies except the money you bid, if accepted. If all else fails, call your cruise consultant at NCL. They’ll sort it all out for you.
