To help ease your mind some more, in addition to the up-high child lock, the balcony doors are HEAVY -- some adults struggle to open them!  Unless your escape artists are over 5' tall and over 100 pounds, I really doubt they could manage to open even a completely unlocked balcony door!

The "front" door to the hallway is also on the heavy side, but you could always get a portable door alarm to use there, too, so you'd know if the door is opened. You could also bring a doorstop and wedge it in hard enough that the kids can't pull it back out again so the door won't open. (Warn your room attendant if you're going to do this, so they know to only enter/exit through your door.)

The connecting door can be left open 24/7, that's no problem.

And more than likely the balcony divider can be opened, but just be aware of the fact that it won't make "one huge balcony" but rather two separate balconies with a small walkway between them at the railing. The ship-side part of the divider is permanently attached, and that would block part of your view of the balcony that you're not on... which means an escape artist might be climbing on a chair/table without your knowledge.  Once you get on board and see it for yourself, you'll be able to judge whether it's safe to open the walkway portion of the divider, or if you want to just keep the kids on the same balcony as you at all times.  Once the divider is opened, it stays open for the whole cruise -- it's not like a door that you can open and close at will.

Thank you for these tips.  The connecting room is something we are considering for the first time ever and although the children are older your tips covered concerns I had.  A great help.

  2. No idea.  I logged on to see if I could find an answer too.   I’ve been told a tour was lost, then overheard that a crane loading supplies to the ship  caused a problem and then the waiter in Shanghai Chinese Restaurant told us we were waiting for the pilot boat.

With a tour booked in the morning like many I am not sure we will make it and thinking of emailing them.  Not sure what to do.

  3. Just want to give some feedback on the towers. If anyone in your group has a fear of heights, or tight spaces for that matter, I would not recommend them doing a tower. My husband has a fear of heights but has been able to climb a couple Mayan ruins in Mexico and Belize. However, he was scared to death doing the tower and will never do it again. The problem is that on the way down you are going down a narrow spiral staircase, and it’s completely open in the middle. And the side near the opening isn’t very high. You can see down the middle all the way to the bottom, which is cool if you are not afraid of heights, but terrifying to someone who is. My poor husband was on the verge of tears. I loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat, but I know I will definitely be doing it alone if I do because he would never even consider doing it again.

This is a picture looking down the middle.

Thank you so much for this. As someone who has a fear of heights this view terrifies me. I shalll stay athe bottom.

  4. We are doing this cruise from Barcelona on 8th July staying at Lleo hotel. (Opposite Jazz hotel). They are just around the corner from Las Ramblas.

This is our 3rd time doing this cruise so I think that says a lot. Taxi from airport is to hotel is 38euros.(booked in advance). There is a taxi rank outside hotel, fare approx. 25euros. Taxi from cruiseport to airport 36euros(booked in advance) Enjoy....and don't read too much into negative comments..

Thank you. This is very useful to my planning also.

  5. Did anyone here bid on a Haven cabin for Getaway December 24th? I noticed a couple dozen H5 and H9s disappeared today. Only four remain now so I assume NCL processed the bids today. Reason I ask is because I have bids in on on the following NYE sailing and may adjust based on any data I can get. Thanks!

Hi, I’m from the UK so bids are in GBP.

I’m on the NYE sailing on Getaway. 31/12/17

I had a midship balcony booked, deck 10 and got notified of my upgrade on Friday Dec 15th.

I originally bidded in the high fair to good range then went back in 2 nights before and lowered all my bids which were for haven aft, penthouse, courtyard and spa. I paid £600pp for my winning bid which was in the high poor range for the Haven Spa.

I did think about buying a thermal spa pass and trying for Vibe passes on embarkation. It would have been less money but I am excited about trying Haven so it’s worth it and I’m glad I kept my bids on. If I remember right the starting bid was around the £450 mark for the Haven Spa.

The other Haven rooms started bids from around £450 to £700.

I noticed when keeping an eye on prices that the cost of the Haven suites in particular, varied quite dramatically in price depending on when you are travelling.

Looking forward to our very first NCL cruise and Haven experience.
