I agree with a prior response as to the hotels along International Boulevard in Elizabeth being able to satisfy your criteria. The immediate area is fairly plain and homogeneous, but that's fine for your requirements. Staying in downtown Newark (DoubleTree hotel) or Jersey City (several hotels at Exchange Place along the waterfront) would also meet your criteria, and it might be best to use these three areas to comparison shop by price. That said, finding a store to purchase wine would be much easier in the commercial areas surrounding the hotels in Jersey City and Newark, not so much as to Elizabeth, though as noted this purchase could be made at the airport itself. I suspect that Elizabeth will come out as the best value. I would avoid most of the hotels immediately surrounding Newark Airport, as they are mostly along U.S. routes 1 & 9 and the service roads, and are not generally amenable to walking.

Ferries to Liberty Island depart from immediately south of the former Central Railroad of New Jersey railroad station in Jersey City, now part of Liberty State Park. The closest hotels to the former railroad station are those that are in Jersey City at Exchange Place. If ambitious, you could walk between those hotels and the former railroad station--it is just over one mile, using the Warren Street ferry to cross the Morris Canal basin (or about twice the distance by walking around the basin)--or a very short taxi ride. The two other hotel areas, Elizabeth and Newark, would require greater efforts to reach the former railroad station (public transportation from Newark being somewhat easier than from Elizabeth, and taxis from either location being quite a bit more expensive compared to Jersey City).

    thank you for your help!

The same hotel you used pre-cruise should work as well post-cruise.   While I do not know of any particular liquor stores, I believe you can buy a bottle of wine at the “duty free” store at the airport upon arrival before heading to your hotel —- of course, you would not pay the “duty free” price if you took the bottle with you.

ok thank you.. and oh yep that would be a great idea! thanks. if i fly with any in packed luggage it would break for sure!

  3. I have read through this so much and am still confused. the more I read the more confused I get about where to stay. We are flying in to EWR on August 31st and leaving out of Bayonne on our cruise Sept 1, 2022.  We just need a hotel for the night. Being able to easily walk to somewhere to eat dinner would be great and maybe get a bottle of wine to take on the cruise. having airport shuttle would be nice but not a deal breaker. There will be 5 adults so 2 rooms of course. thanks for the help.

  4. I need help. I am driving myself crazy trying to decide where to stay. We are flying in to EWR on Aug 26 and leaving out of Bayonne on the 27th. Then when we return we are staying overnight Sept 5th and 6th and then flying home on the 7th. Should we just stay at the same hotel for all the nights? I am hoping to pay $220 or less. We need 2 rooms..3 adults in 1 room and 2 in another. The main thing we want to do on Sept 6th is going to the Statue of Liberty. It would be wonderful to be able to easily get something to eat also. thank you in advance for any help! you are all so very knowledgeable!!

  5. this is the letter

Dear Valued Guests and Travel Partners

    ,

Norwegian Cruise Line has important information for you regarding Pride of America’s

7-Day Hawaii sailing on March 10, 2018 from Honolulu,

Hawaii. All guests booked on this sailing need to be aware of this change and travel professionals are asked to forward this information to their

    clients.

    Due to regulatory compliance requirements,

Pride of America must undergo an unscheduled technical dry

    -dock and the ship’s March

    10th

itinerary is being modified as a result. The necessary maintenance that will be conducted during this dry dock will in no way impact the safe

operation of the vessel during your cruise.

The cruise is changing from a 7-day to a 6-day sailing embarking on March

11 , 2018, and the ship will call on Kahului, Maui on March 12th

from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm instead of staying overnight as originally scheduled.

Please review the revised itinerary information below -

  6. Can someone post the exact wording of the email? There is never a "one day" drydocking, so unless she is in drydock right now, that's not what's happening. There may be a repair that is mandated by USCG or class to be fixed "at earliest possible opportunity" that happened recently, and this was the first time slot where the parts or manpower were available. If someone can post the email, it may help me understand what is actually being done.

But, as others have said, ships break things, and they need to be fixed, and in many cases it is the law that it needs to be fixed asap or the ship won't be allowed to sail at all.

It is 2 days, we are on the March 10-17 sailing and we don't leave until the 11th. I think it is what you said the mandated by USCG...I can't post the email from work, but they said it wouldn't affect safety and I have to believe them because I can't believe they would risk passenger safety.. we are looking at is as another day still in Hawaii, not working, And the biggy not having winter weather.! I will look when I get home and if no one posted the email I will post it for you to read.

    thanks!

  7. even though you've been a member since 2003, you mustn't have been reading this forum at all the summer of 2016 since when the change was made in mid-july for no liquids, except wine for fee, was made there were dozens of threads with hundreds of posts.

i don't cruise ncl and the ban doesn't exist on royal caribbean...that is all i was saying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Funny how some complain about the nickel and dimes on NCL yet they are here posting their comments on the NCL board. Why bother? Most people I've met on ships, in 33 cruises, never heard of Cruise Critic anyway. But to the point of the OP,

I've been on 6 or 7 NCL cruises and there is plenty of bottled water for purchase and I also found the tap water, while tasting rather flat, acceptable. If you can't afford a few bottles of water on the ship, perhaps you shouldn't be spending thousands of dollars on a cruise. Of course, that is my opinion as a disclaimer for the flamers.

ya know...all I said was I hadn't heard of such a thing. good grief..calm down. it has nothing to do with " i can't afford the price of water." Plus you have no right telling me how to spend or not spend my money.

  9. Bring an empty water bottle with you and fill it up on the ship. The water on board is better and more purified than anything that you could bring on board. BTW water in Hawaii is usually pretty good. Don't make a big deal out of nothing.

I was just wondering...I just hadn't heard of such a thing. we do have insulated cups...

  10. It's been that way for a while now. For more info on what you can and can't take check out the Alcohol and Beverage policy listed in the Frequently Asked questions section on NCL.com.

no that's ok...we would have only taken water. we won't be cruising NCL after this anyway.

  11. Welcome to NCL. You can't bring any beverage on board. If you did, they wouldn't be able to charge you their inflated prices.

I did see the price of their bottled water...we won't be buying that either:eek: good grief! I sure hope the "regular" water is good

  12. I was able to book ours a year out but there is not set time when they become available I understand.

interesting. we are going March 2018 and nothing yet. I am a planner so this isn't sitting well with me. I am not used to this.
