Because of the restrictions on foreign ports, our ship docked let off passengers and then sailed to Ensenada. They corralled all of us in the terminal with excursion type numbers loaded us on buses to Ensanada. We had to wait 3 hours with limited seating and no food or drink to get our bus. We got held at the boarder by Mexican Authorities as we were officially an "IN-TRANSIT" BUS and took us until 10:00 PM to get to the ship.
I'm in no way disparaging San Diego and their beautiful sea front. I love it and have vacationed there numerous times. I'm specifically remembering the terminal which may have been tainted by my experience.
Wow that sounds like an awful experience! The whole port area in SD has improved. I love, love, love San Diego and feel very fortunate to live here! My daughter graduated from SFSU so spent a lot of time in the Bay Area, which I also love! Many fond childhood memories of visiting San Francisco also!

What? Are you talking about the port in San Diego? Firstly, the port is a five to ten minute drive from the airport. Coming from the north look out the right side window of the plane to appreciate the charm of the area. Sure there is the heavy military presence of the north island of Coronado, but the view of downtown San Diego from the water is spectacular!. The actual port area is small and within walking distance of a lot or tourist attractions. You could easily walk to the Midway Museum, Seaport Village, and The Gaslamp District. The port is actually pretty!

First river cruise this May on Amastella from Amsterdam to Budapest! Spending 3 days on our own pre cruise in Amsterdam and an extra day in Budapest post cruise. Very excited!

I visited Versailles on a bicycle tour from Paris in August of 2017. Overall it was a great day butI have mixed feelings about the palace itself. I think it partially depends on exactly what is included in your tour. Is transportation from the ship directly to the palace or do you take the train from Paris? Does your tour include only the main palace or are other parts of the grounds included such as the gardens, the smaller palaces, and especially MarieAntoinette’s faux village? Also, is there a live guide? I found the headsets provided at the palace were awful. I missed almost the whole tour because the recording never synced up with placards in the various locations. We went into the main palace in the late afternoon when it was not too crowded. If your tour is during the middle of the day expect very large crowds. I was also bothered by the fact that a lot of the flooring in the palace was in really bad condition (think duct tape over parquet). On this same trip I visited the Pitti Palace in Florence. I found it had a more authentic, less tourist trampled, feel with more rooms and works of art on display. Hope this helps with your decision J.

On our June Eurodam cruise we were able to bring on wine with no fees. We boarded in Seattle with 3 bottles in a carry on sack. I never saw any place to pay the corkage for the extra bottle. In all the ports we brought a couple of bottles back in a backpack that went through the xray machine and no one batted an eye. We consumed all the bottles in our suite.

We recently returned from an Alaskan cruise on the Eurodam. On embarkation day I walked on with three bottles of wine in a cloth carrier (the kind from the grocery store) and my husband had another bottle in his backpack. We fully expected to pay the $18 fee for the extra bottles (HAL allows 1 bottle person to be consumed in your cabin). We saw no table for this and no one blinked an eye. We consumed the bottles in our Neptune suite. At each of our ports we also purchased several bottles of favorite wines we found (we like California Chards) and brought them onboard in our backpacks with no questions asked. Our wonderful room steward kept our ice bucket filled at all the right times. Not the same as bringing on cases of wines, but the rules about bringing on your own booze seemed pretty lax. We probably could have brought on whatever we wanted just as long as we kept it in our cabin which we didn't mind at all!

That will be much nicer! Not too far south from there, (past the Midway and next to The Fish Market Restaurant), is a Bob Hope Memorial. It is fun and different! I don’t want to spoil the surprise so won’t go into detail. Enjoy your cruises!
