  1. I am looking into taking the Voyager of the Seas to the Southern Caribbean this November or December.

If we fly into San Juan PR the day before the cruise, arriving around 2pm, would we still have enough daylight/time to do a rain forest tour?

Would you suggest checking into the hotel first, or do any the tour companies pick up from the airport directly?

Can anyone suggest a tour company which does more laid-back tours?  I am traveling with my elderly mother who would like to see the rain forest but is not up for hiking, zip-lining, etc.  We are looking more for sight seeing, riding through for scenery, with short stops to see plants and/or animals, type-of-thing.

If you don't think that is do-able the day before the cruise, do you think it would be possible to do it the day that we return on the ship if our flight leaves around 4pm?

We have been to San Juan once before (several years before COVID) and did OSJ, but did not get to the rain forest, so we are really hoping that we are going to fit it in during our quick time frame.

Thanks for any and all help!

  2. We did this same HOHO tour at Thanksgiving. The weather was beautiful (sorry to make everyone jealous)! We got the Go Miami Card so admission to some attractions were included with the bus ride. The buses are not on any real schedule (although they are supposed to be). At the Bayside Market, our bus was pulling in & the bus we needed to get on was trying to leave. If we didn't get on there, the wait was 2 hours until the next one! I ran ahead & made them wait (but the bus driver wasn't happy about it). They need better organization & scheduling!

We spent 2 days doing the HOHO tours on all 4 routes. There was 1 stop that we went by at least 4 times (coming & going) that they NEVER stopped at, it was a designated stop but I couldn't even tell WHERE they were supposed to pull over. We skipped that one. LOL

  3. I'm glad no one in your group had mobility issues! They would have never been able to walk all that to the Caribelle Batik. Doesn't look like many benches or places to stop & rest either. Perhaps stick out a thumb and hitch a ride on one of those vans passing you. ;-)

Some nice coastal views off to the right in some of those though.

My mother looks physically fine but has many health issues that you wouldn't realize by looking at her. Thus, she cannot walk distances, up inclines or up more than a couple stairs. So, I try to be observant ahead of time to assess if she is able to participate in an activity or not. In this instance, obviously she would have had to stay on the bus.

From the look at the pictures of the Brimstone Hill fortress on St. Kitts, should maybe restricted to the bus there as well. If you noticed: Was there any videos, exhibits, or even shaded/inside place to sit at the Brimstone Hill fortress?

Thanks and still continuing to enjoy all of your posts!

  4. I've been following along & enjoying as well.

I'm on the Adventure OTS in November going to Labadee, San Juan, St. Maarten & St. Kitts. A very similar itinerary to yours (only 1 port different).

We love to do cultural and/or island tours as well (since it is just a few hours, you can only get so much experience and feel for a place, but I really enjoy it). We also love to 'visit the uncle in prison' as you put it! To follow in your vein, 'cheapo' souvenirs (postcards & magnets & t-shirts) and pretty jewelry ($100 maximum). I am not sure why people don't talk about shopping much on CC. Most of us enjoy it, but I guess shopping isn't what we take away in our memories when we look back at our trip.

  5. I'm on a Voyager class ship sailing in November (specifically Adventure OTS which I believe is currently in dry dock getting renovated).

Can anyone tell me generally which specialty restaurants they have on Voyager class ships (other than Johnny Rocket's)?

Are the specialty restaurants really that much better than the MDR? Are the specialty restaurants worth the up charge?

I believe Chops is the counterpart to Cagney's on NCL-- is there anyone that has been to both of these & can compare them directly? Truthfully, I wasn't really impressed with Cagney's. NCL's French Restaurant Le Bistro was very good-- is there an equivalent to something like that on RCCL?

  6. Thanks! We're on RCL Adventure of the Seas Nov 24 2018. I can't wait to see what upgrades the ship has once it comes out of dry dock!

Also, I don't know which Specialty restaurants this ship has (or will have) & if they are worth the extra cost. On NCL Sky, we weren't impressed w/ Cagney's and I know RCL has Chops, which I assume is the counterpart.

  7. Hi everyone! I was hoping that you can advise me how assigned dinner dining times work at the main dining rooms, and if there were any alternatives to eating at that assigned time (other than going to the buffet or specialty restaurant).

My only cruise (so far) was on NCL Sky, and I really enjoyed showing up at the dining room when I wanted to eat. I found that there were so many activities to do, when we ate dinner really ended up being whenever it could be fit into the schedule (if that makes sense).

So on other cruise lines, do they offer anything like this? How does assigned dining times work?
