It was Kingstown St Vincent and the Grenadines yesterday. It was very humid with rain showers off and on all day. We went to breakfast in the Compass Rose. Had Swedish pancakes and Edda Benedict so good. That was a big breakfast but our 31/2 hour tour was meeting on the pier at 12:55 so we didn’t have time for lunch. The dock is small and in a pretty little protected cove shared with the ferry service.

We walked off the ship with plenty or time to meet the tour. This is so much easier than the mad scramble from the ship!s theater with a herd of people.

Our tour the Best of St Vincent was in another coastal bus (25 passenger bus with rows of one and two seats, no storage). We got to meeting point about 15 mins early and there were 10 or so people already waiting. The ship’s tour person was there, the bus was there with driver guide and sign on the front. Can we just get on the bus and sit down and wait for the departure time, NO. The tour starts at 12:55 and we can’t board until then!!! All but four passengers were there and the bus will not be full so several of us ask to board so we can sit down. NO have to wait until everyone is there! We are not happy campers and express it….so finally the ship’s person lets us on about 5nibs before time. The last two people show up at departure time and we are off. This is where Regent really falls short! But it a drawing card for many.

The tour took us the Four Charlotte finish around 1806. Dick went to see the canons. It is perched on top of a hill the bus access narrow little road with steep drop offs on each side then a hearty climb to the fort. From there we went to the gardens established in 1796 oldest in the Caribbean. Again another climb as the gardens path starts at the bottom of the hill and goes to the top, where the bus meet you at the end. This time Dick and I stayed in the bus. Too hot and humid with rain all around. Finally we drove toward the Lee side of the island for a view of a valley where most crops are grown. Alway our young woman guide pointed out points of interest. Of interest to me again was were the homes, built close together, all sizes and colors. Finally stop was a costal resort hotel for a run punch made with 86.5 proof run. It was very good and strong rum sm tasting. But the high light of the area was the beach setting.

Last night was our TA travel partner cocktail party which was well attended. Then we ate in Compass Rose and finally got thereearly enough to be seated in Rishnu’s section. The service was wonderful! Again I tried a plant based dish With a sweet potato pancake base, roasted veggies and cashew  cheese different but tasty.  Life is good.

Most of the time we are allowed to board as soon as we get there. Depends on the local guide

    Day 5 / 33 - Bordeaux (continued)

Lunch today in LaVeranda was very good.

I had a German themed lunch that was excellent. Pork tenderloin, potato salad, and sauerkraut with dumplings!!! So good

The DW has a seafood theme…..oysters, breaded scallops and shrimp plus some German style turkey dish…. All very good!!

Food is so subjective. Meat and fish some like well done (D-in-L) others like it almost raw (DH). Main thing most agree that it needs to be served hot!

catching Covid is the main problem with traveling out of the country. That way we canceled our cruises that had us having to disembark in a foreign country. We are content with round trip US ports. We can drive home. But that is our choice.

We feel that way too. Living in florida there are many options and we are booked on the Navigator from montreal back to Florida and then on the Splendor LA to miami and then the Grandeur 2024. Looking into an american cruise line river cruise from New Orleans to Minn. summer of 2023

  4. We are on the Splendor now and the entertainment is not the best. The cruise director David has a wonderful voice and he gave the best performance. Problem is that every crew staff or entertainer has quarantine on the ship for a couple of days. Then they can emerge!! When covid recedes the entertainment will get better.

I agree that the duo in the Splendor lounge are fantastic. They involve the attendees and have such a wide variety of music. Have to say that Kasie is such an accomplished pianist.

  5. We are on the Splendor now and have taken 2 demonstration only classes. Chef Kelly is absolutely fabulous and so knowledgeable. Her background is remarkable and my husband and I are learning a lot. She brings samples close to you and lets you smell. Answers all questions and imparts many personal experiences. Have 2 classes left and looking forward

  6. We are on the Splendor right now and are also slowing down physically. The excursions are rated well and the guides have assisted us as needed

    One even called me Mama!

One problem is the little 6 or 8 seat vans where you have to get up a high step and then climb to the back.

Some days we just enjoy the ship!!!

First of all, the Explorer is a beautiful ship with aesthetic details that surpass the older ships in the fleet.  The carpet, the upholstery, the marble tile work show harmonious attention to detail.  As in any project though, there are design failures which I hope are corrected on Splendor and Grandeur .

The theater has been critiqued quite a bit in this forum and I agree. The massive columns destroy sight lines and I doubt that the balcony has any good seats.  I also miss an aft outside lounge which was our favorite perch on other ships.  The infinity pool and loungers are aft but it is very circuitous to get there.  In my opinion, the spa area takes up more than its fair share of real estate.  I always felt like an intruder as I wound my way past treatment rooms to get to the pool area.

The bars and the coffee connection are particularly beautiful with staff who are both professional and charming.   The main pool area is very inviting with plenty of loungers and double “love nests” .  The menu at the pool grill also seems expanded compared to the other ships.

All of the restaurants have been critiqued in depth.  My only regret is loosing my appetite by day ten due to stuffing myself like I was a contestant in a Coney Island eating contest.

The cabins are very comfortable.  We were in a concierge cabin with a large, well appointed balcony.   I liked the new Illy machines that brew both expresso and a standard size coffee.   The bathrooms and closet are large with lots of storage.   The only shortcoming is that American style plugs are in short supply.  Remember to bring European adapters to increase your options.

Covid protocols were honored for the most part and it was a nice change not to catch any respiratory or gastrointestinal illnesses.  The big downside was that there were not many opportunities to socialize with other passengers.  No block party, no gold and above get together, no dance parties, no deck BBQ, no ship tours, no Sunday brunch, no country fair, and no Krew Kapers!  True that my remarks may be skewed as we did not participate in any of the sport events, or dance instruction, or bingo,  or trivia, or afternoon tea.   I don’t think I ran across the ships officers at all.

Finally, the best part of this trip was the staff.  In all venues they were helpful, charming, and seemed to take genuine pleasure in helping passengers and anticipating their needs.

I really can’t wait to be back!  We have a Silversea trip planned for August just to see how we like it, and three more Regent voyages planned for this year and next.  If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to try to answer them.

We are on the Splendor and we had a gold + party and a fabulous Krew Maker shoy
