  1. Pearlironic,

If you cancel the entire cruise, you receive a Future Cruise Credit for the entire amount you paid for your cruise, along with a refund for any beverage packages, excursions, etc., you pre-purchased through Carnival. If you agreed to take the shorter cruise, everything - your cruise fare and all extras you purchased - will be prorated to cover the shortened number of days of your new cruise and the amount refunded for the "lost" days will be pay back to you within 3 weeks (back to the credit card or method you used to make the initial payment.

  2. Carnival's John Heald just posted an update concerning the ships/itineraries we've all been monitoring. His post is on the face book site. My question is, why hasn't Carnival posted this information? I trust John's information but I'm disappointed that the Carnival website's not showing the same information...

  3. Anyone know when they are changing the main shows. We went on Freedom in Dec 2014 and then Feb 2017 and same musical. Wish they bring on a "Broadway" show

Southnam - I've received a reply regarding the entertainment line-up for our cruise Nov. 5, 2017 on the Freedom. James Brown, will be the guest guitarist in the Pub and Paul O'Shea will be at the piano in the Schooner Bar.

Starring in the Welcome Show and Theater will be the Peter & Ildiko Aerial Act. I've seen their shows and it's amazing to watch them perform on a moving ship in the middle of the ocean. Check them out in the link below.

The Headliner entertainers will be magician Justino Zoppe and the Revoiced Acappella Group. See the links below to see more about them.

The production shows will be "Once Upon a Time," "Marquee," and "Now you See It," which offer great entertainment!

The ice show will still be "Freedomice.com" (I too have seen it many times and was hoping for a "new" show) and the parades on the Royal Promenade will be "Party around the World" and "DreamWorks: Move It! Move It!"

  4. I have never seen CF Coke Zero on any freestyle machine....on ship or on land. I am addicted to CFCZ so always look. I usually have to go with CFDC if using free-style. I try to take cans onboard if I find it in debarkation port so I can at least have one per day. Would love to know if anyone else has ever seen CFCZ in a free-style machine either onboard or on land. If so, what ship and/or what restaurant on land. I don't know about other areas of the country, but around here we can't even get CFCZ in bottles...only cans!

I called Royal Caribbean today to specifically ask if canned sodas can be brought on the ship and I was told, "No." May I ask how you went about bringing on soda...in your carry-on, as a piece of tagged "luggage" or in your checked bag? As we all know, 10 phone calls to RCCL can produce 10 different answers!

  5. I booked 439 on the Baja Deck after reading posters' positive comments about that stateroom. I'm really looking forward to this cruise and the new ports I'll be visiting for the first time!

Thanks to all who took time to post a reply! Happy New Year!

  6. flamomo - I booked this cruise with the OP and was happy to see your post because it helped me make up my mind to book us in the same stateroom - B439!

This will obviously be my first cruise with Princess so I'm really excited to be sailing with a new cruise line on a new ship (to me) and on an itinerary I've always wanted to do.

Merry Christmas and thanks to everyone who posted a reply to my friend's query!

  7. This offer is one of the perks pre-loaded on my Diamond Plus SeaPass card:

"Buy any wine, beer or soda by the glass and get a second FREE.",

If I'm traveling alone or with a couple who has their own drink package, will the bartender give me TWO glasses of wine, two beers or two sodas AT THE SAME TIME, or will I be able to get the first one, then return to the same bartender to get the second one FREE when I'm ready for it?

  8. I need to know if a standard wheelchair will fit through the cabin doors on RCCL's Freedom of the Seas. I had someone ask me this question because they use a wheelchair for mobility and have booked an accessible cabin.

They have an opportunity to upgrade to a higher category cabin but there are no accessible cabins available. Would her wheelchair fit through the doorway of a junior suite, for instance?? Or are the only wider doors on accessible cabins?

  9. Two of my friends and I are doing the 5-day Halloween cruise this year. I was on the Freedom two years ago for the Halloween cruise too and we had a super time! The ship was decorated and the party on the Royal Promenade was a hoot!

You'll see everything from Wal-Mart costumes to ones that must have cost a pretty penny. It's a festive time for sure, regardless of what you wear!

I can't wait to get back onboard the Freedom...I love that ship and her marvelous cruise. Being that is will be the Halloween cruise is just icing on the cake...or frost on the pumpkin!

  10. I'm on the outside of the opinions here. I stayed in a PR stateroom once and never again. The room's dimensions include the footage for the window eat, so unless you plan to sit there a lot, it's a waste of space.

My biggest complaint was that the window was double-paned (noise reduction?) and was a bit foggy between the layers. It was like looking out a dirty window with no way to clean it.

I also was turned off by seeing into everyone else's stateroom and the necessity f keeping my curtains closed for a large portion of the time I was in my stateroom.

I knew what I was getting into when I booked the stateroom, but took it anyhow because I was traveling with a group and we got excellent prices on that category of stateroom.

  11. I just checked my cell phone and noticed there was a missed call from RCCL. I listened to the message they left and realized the call was meant for someone else...telling them their Legend cruise had been cancelled!

I just called RCCL to let them know I hadn't booked the Legend and now the actual cruiser has missed the phone call. I was assured RCCL is also sending out emails to notify guests of their cancelled cruise.

Even though the call wasn't intended for me, I felt bad for anyone getting a notification that their cruise has been cancelled!

  12. I've done three All-Access Tours, twice on the same ship. The first one I did cost $100, but the tours became more popular so the price went up. The first one I did was on the Navigator and it was terrific...a sit-down lunch break and lots of very nice gifts when we completed the tour. In all, the tour lasted about 3 to 3.5 hours.

The second and third tours were on the Freedom, both $150 each. That second one nearly soured me on ever doing another one. We hardly visited any areas at all, were given dried out pastries and a beverage (I swear it was Kool-Ade!) and the tour only lasted a couple hours. Gifts at the end consisted of a bag, a wrinkled ball cap and a RCCL luggage tag.

I was beyond disappointed with that second tour and wrote to RCCL to express my disappointment. I was told the tour idea was new and had no standardization from one ship to another...which I also objected to because of the price. I also complained about the fact that the tour on Freedom was less than 2 hours long and absolutely not worth the jump from $100 to $150. I told RCCL I would never recommend the tour to another cruiser if the one on the Freedom was the standard tour. RCCL told me each ship offering the tour were informally competing with each other to provide the best tour and obviously Freedom didn't go all out like the Navigator crew had.

I did bite the bullet and do another All-Access Tour later on the Freedom and felt my $150 was well-spent. The tour started mid-morning and lasted into mid-afternoon. We got to do what I really wanted all along - to really get a good look at areas normally unseen by passengers. We must have spent at least a half hour in the engineering department and spent a reasonably amount of time in the laundry, the mechanics section, the area where the anchors are drawn in (correct term?), the recycling center, I-95 and the crew recreational areas, etc. Although I didn't take the tour for the food or gifts, we had a nice light lunch with beverages mid-tour and received a nice bag of gifts at the end.

The pictures I took during that third All-Access Tour are among my favorites ever taken on a cruise! The first photo shows the anchor chain's size, the second photo was taken in the engineering department, and the last photo shows the crew bar on I-95. (Sorry, I've never been good at posting pix here on CC)

  13. I've been reading various reviews of the Escape and many cruisers complained the ship is very noisy. They said the shows in the theater were ear-splitting and the music venues and such were just too loud to enjoy. Can anyone tell me their recent experiences on the Escape.

My only experience with NCL was on the Spirit last year and I didn't find that ship noisy at all. I'm considering a cruise on the Escape, but will pass it up for another ship if indeed that ship is known for being really noisy...

  14. I was the cruiser with Kathy on the Spirit. Her review is spot-on regarding our experience onboard our first NCL ship.

In addition to Kathy's observations, I noticed there were hardly ever overhead announcements which suited me just fine. I also noted the sales events of t-shirts, watches, etc., were held in the atrium but only on the last couple of days of the cruise. The sales events were minimal and never caused a problem with traffic flow...another plus.

One complaint is there was only one electrical outlet in the main cabin. Another was made by Kathy that the hairdryer in the bathroom was "a joke." I did love the water pressure and instant hot water. It was also possible to get cold, cold water from the sink faucet...nice when taking meds or getting a drink of water.

I'm sure we both can think of many other likes and dislikes, but overall the Spirit is a beautiful ship, a manageable size and great for folks who don't require a lot of frenzied activities to occupy their time.

  15. You should be fine if $300-400 is not a problem. Perhaps we could provide more specific suggestions if you could tell us a hotel chain that you know you like? The Back/bay Copley area sounds like a good target area to me. There are several nice hotels with indoor access to Copley Place and the Prudential shops as well as close to T stations. This could be very handy should you get rainy weather. I arrived at Back Bay Station in a Blizzard last winter and was very happy to have a reservation at the Sheraton, which was accessible via an indoor walk through Copley Place and the Prudential from across the street from the train station.

Given what you've said so far, you are NOT going to be happy at any hotel that offers a free shuttle from the airport. If you are worried about getting ripped off by a taxi driver (not a complaint on this forum for Boston), then you should book a car service so the price of your trip is agreed upon ahead of time.

Thanks, 138East! You've given lots of good info...now all I have to do is research the names of the places you've mentioned so I can get a handle on where they are in relation to where we want to be...
