  1. One cruise ended with a storm. The following cruise started in the aftermath, left late and missed ports. Inevitably you're going to get some bad reviews. Yet, on both cruises, many had a great time.

Those on the current sailing have been reporting that they're having a good trip. There are hardly any reminders left of the storm's impact. Even all the slides are reportedly back up and running! (rumors were flying that those wouldn't be fixed until dry dock).

Bottom line: The Breakaway and her crew seem to be doing just fine.

  2. Well.. not sure if this is useful, but she says slides are currently in need of repairs. They are working on getting the repairs made hopefully by the time Breakaway sails on Feb 2. The rumors that they wouldn’t be repaired until the dry dock are not true, and they intend to have them back in service as soon as they can guarantee they are safe.

She’ll keep checking in on this over the weekend and will let me know when she has an update.

So I guess we’re all in the same boat (or ship [emoji568]) waiting and hoping for some good news.

Thank you very much for sharing this information! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they get them back up and running safely during the current cruise. I'm sure there is at least one kid - or an adult who is a kid at heart - hoping that they do, too!

Norwegian Breakaway Update - January 18, 2018 at 2:15 PM ET (6:15 PM UTC)

At Norwegian Cruise Line, the safety and security of our guests is our number one priority. Due to a strong weather system that is moving across the eastern United States, Norwegian Breakaway will be slightly delayed in returning to New York. For their comfort and safety, embarking guests for Norwegian Breakaway’s cruise departing on January 19 should plan to arrive at the pier between 4 – 6 pm. Any further updates will be posted to ncl.com.

  4. Love it, 44 minutes ago someone reposted a video (looks like they edited a lot out, of course, it was of people laughing, walking around, etc.) and they posted on the video that passengers were told to put on their lifejackets....unbelievable, as that never happened. Do they really think that lying is going to get them more.

Update. Now, some are saying they weren't asked to put on their lifejackets and that this video needs to be corrected, because they don't want issues with their credibility, even though they keep saying that they were sailed right into the storm.

Scammers looking for a pay day. Also possible there a few people with financial interests in other cruise lines looking to hurt NCL business.

  5. Snowflakes looking for a hand out.

This. Total snowflakes. I've seen the videos and read the accounts. Having been on many cruises, I've inevitably encountered stormy seas. The types where the crew goes cabin to cabin to lock down your portholes, windows and doors. Where extra barf bags are put out. Where people head down to the lowest deck and toward the center of the ship for stability. Where your window looks like the glass door at the laundromat's washing machine. Where you hear the pounding on the ship's hull and the creaks/bends/twists go on all through the night.

And in those few instances, no cruise credits. Also, no regrets as I knew I was on a ship and on the big 'ol ocean, and that these things can happen. Those experiences ALWAYS make me appreciate when the seas are calm and you "Don't even know you're on a ship"!

We've heard from passengers on the very next cruise. There are no wet carpets. There is no mold and vomit everywhere. The ship doesn't smell bad.

You're dealing with people who were experiencing rough conditions at the end of a long cruise. Heading back home to cold and snow. It was too much for some of the snowflakes to deal with. I totally get it. It totally doesn't even faze me! If I was on that ship, I'd be looking forward to - possibly even booking onboard - my next cruise, lol.

  6. Leaving on the next cruise out on the 19th. I do hope they are working on those water slides. It's the main attraction for my younger brother. He will be so disappointed. That tiny pool is no substitute that's for sure.

I'm with you. If you ask my daughter what she's looking forward to, the first, second and third thing she lists are the water slides! I'm optimistic for our chances though. The fact the crew has been seen working on them during this cruise at least means they're trying to get them back in safe & working order.

  7. Not a lot of kids on a 14 day cruise in January anyway.

Their free-fall slides and obstacle course (except for the kiddie version) isn't exactly designed for small kids. Personally, I look forward to doing both (having been on the BA before a couple of times.)

I hope they can get both up and running safely by the next cruise. I'll be on the one after that, with my wife and (small/young) daughter.

  8. Yes, I can answer this. We have talked to several officers. After the winter storm that has been posted about here extensively, the outdoor decks (15/16) may have sustained some damage. For example, the LED big TV wall at Spice H2O is not working properly. When the ship docked in NYC, it was covered in ice and the crew had to act very quickly to turn it over. The immediate priority was assessing damage that would affect cruise safety and getting guests from the last cruise off.

There simply was not time for an engineer to board and confirm the slides and course would be safe. The officer told me that it could be examined in port while we are in the Caribbean but not to bet on it. They will definitely have time for examination when the ship gets back to NYC.

    Thank you Jules528!

Much appreciated. Enjoy the rest of your cruise! Please keep us updated.

  9. ...we were kind of disappointed by some of the things we missed due to all the odd circumstances (the ropes course, water slides, etc. have not been open on the cruise because of the storm)....

    Hi Jules528,

Can you let me know more about the damage or reasons for those to be closed? Are they working to get them back open again soon?

I'll be on the ship in a few weeks and I'm really curious about what to expect. My daughter will be so dissappointed if the water slides are closed (that's pretty much the biggest thing she's looking forward to!)

    Thanks Jules.
