  1. I also measure reviews against places I know and have been to and they bear little resemblance to my reality. The world is filled with too many fusspots who worship at the Church of Our Lady of the Perpetually Outraged where the congregants will loudly complain about everything and anything and sites like Trip Advisor and this one give them platforms for their whinging.

  2. Thank you OP for this thread. A cruise to Alaska has never really appealed to me but I have friends who have done 4 cruises, on HAL, and rave about them.

I do want to see some Northern beauty so I’ve added the Norwegian Fjords as a B2B with the Baltic next May.

But I do want to see Alaska and have had a driving trip from the east coast up to Alaska, Yukon, and NWT on my bucket list for years ( and years). So it’s not that I don’t want to visit AK, I just want it to be part of a long road trip.

Your posting has just confirmed to me that my road excursion is the better option for me.

(Although I’m sure it would be easier and cheaper).

  3. I've only ever had Hellman's and Best Foods. Kraft is not in the same league. What is different/better about Dukes?

Hellman was one of only three

Items that was totally brand only for me (Hellman, Bounty, Coca Cola) until I moved to the south in 91 and was introduced to Dukes Mayo. It rocks. It is so much yummier. I haven’t bought Hellmans in 26 years!

    Of course that’s JMHO.

  4. A good source of advice is the US State Department Travel Advisory:

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/mexico-travel-advisory.html

It all depends on what ports your ship is sailing to.

Manzanillo, Acapulco, and Mazatlan are all under Level 4 advisories, though only Acapulco has an official "do not travel" for US Citizens.

The Baja Peninsula is under Level 2; the central tourist zones are considered adequately safe.

The cruise lines tend to be overly cautious in changing or cancelling port calls when local crime is an issue. The fact that many lines still have overnight calls in Cabo San Lucas should be reassuring.

  5. This would be a Jones Act violation. This would also involve Customs and Border Patrol as you are reentering the US. To just “leave” would also be a CBP violation (if they catch it quick enough, you may get detained at MCO).

Why would it be a violation of the Passenger ... vessel act if the ship had already been to the Bahamas and GSC?

  6. It’s funny how just a few decades ago, we’d travel overseas and be out of touch for weeks or months at a time. And we survived. Nowadays we become completely panicked if we’re not able to communicate 24/7. Kinda funny really, how dependent we’ve become.

  7. It’s weird how I’ve never heard of anyone sacrificing their life for their dog.

I’m January a neighbors home caught on fire when cat knocked over a candle. Harry got his wife up and out of the house. He then went back in for the dog and the cats. He never came out, nor did any of the pets.
