A few years ago, we did a Scenic cruise from Budapest to Nuremberg Sept 13-20 and it was COLD. I think we sat on the outside deck once. Everyone was wearing jackets and wrapped up in blankets. We love to sit outside/on our balcony and it was just too cold to do that.
My parents went on a cruise 2 weeks later and had beautiful weather.

Hi all,
We are thinking of booking the Ancient Mediterranean Cruise. There are two dates in June and two in August. Given that Viking has cancelled through May now, I'm worried that the June dates may be cancelled too. The Sky is in Italian ports in early June and it doesn't sound like Italy is going to be ready for cruise ships laden with American passengers (even if we are vaccinated) by then. I know it's hard to know what's going to happen, but what do you all think? Is June too optimistic?
Thanks for any insight you might share

Bumping up this thread to see if any recent Homeland cruisers have advice about taking backpacks/bags into museums, etc. Are there any restrictions in most of the popular tourist places?
Thanks! Three weeks out for us!

We are traveling with friends who are in the Veranda category. They can't get into their room prior to 3:00. Can they board earlier? Have lunch? Make dining reservations?
Thanks!

If you had a flight at 6:30 am what time would you recommend catching the bus? How long is the ride?

Hi all,
We are on an August Homelands cruise. Our time in Gdansk is short (6am-1pm). We are thinking of doing the included tour and then seeing the Amber museum on our own. Is that doable? Where does the included tour end? Is it close to the Amber museum? Does Viking have shuttles to get back to the ship?
Thanks for any information you can share about Gdansk.

This message was in My Viking Journey under news this morning
Dear Viking Guest,
Due to a temporary system issue during the week of May 21 2018, you may have noticed adjustments to the arrival and departure times for several of your scheduled ports of call. Please note these schedule changes were made in error and have now been corrected.
It appears times are back to what they were except for SPB which has an arrival time of 7:30 as noted by the previous poster.

We are getting ready to book our excursions for the Homelands Cruise. When it says "walking tour" how many people are typically in a group? I assume the panoramic bus tour has a full busload of people?
For those of you who have done the Homelands before are there any included tours that you would highly recommend?
Thanks!

We are on the Homelands (Star) on Aug 11 and our port times have all changed to the ones the original poster mentioned. :(

Thanks for the reply ShipsinBergen!
We are looking forward to our trip-just not the early morning departure!!

I don't understand the reply???
We will have all day to explore Bergen on Friday. Then we will need to get to the airport on Saturday for a 6:30am flight. Just wondering if we should arrange for a taxi or private car to take us to the airport and what time we should plan to leave the ship.
Thanks

It is overnighting there. We get into Bergen the prior morning.

We have a very early (6:30am) morning flight out of Bergen in late August. It's on a Saturday. We are on the Viking Star. Should we have the ship arrange for a taxi to come or have our TA set up a private transfer? How early should we leave the ship?
Thanks!

Thanks for the docking info.
For those that have stopped in Eidfjord are there trails to hike around the area that do not require taking a bus to get there? In other words in there stuff to do if we set off on our own?
Thanks!

We are on August Homelands and wondering if the ship docks in Eidfjord or somewhere nearby?
Thanks!

We are on the August 11th Homelands cruise. At this point we think we are going to arrange our own air because it will be cheaper than the price viking quoted our TA. I keep watching the prices creep up and am wondering when Viking will ticket all of the people that booked their air through them. There are only so many flights/seats out of Bergen! I don't want to wait too long and find that Viking has taken all the available seats on the flights out of Bergen.
Thanks!

We have been to Rome several times. Rick Steves has free audio guides on many of the top attractions. Download them to your iPhone and you have a free tour guide. There are lots of choices for hotels in varying price ranges. The train is easy to use. The last time we were there the hotel arranged a driver to take us to the airport. I think it was about $50-60.

Yes I'm wondering more about a backpack. Is a regular one okay for excursions or do we need to be worried about wandering hands?
We will need something to put a jacket and water bottle in.
Thanks

Hi all,
We are booking on an August Homelands cruise. Just wondering what type of bag or backpack you would recommend. In the past I've either carried a Travelon anti theft bag or we carry a regular backpack that has bottle holders on the sides but has regular zippers (so not pickpocket resistant).
Suggestions?
Thanks

Can a referral reward be using as a shipboard credit?
Thanks

Yes it's a paid excursion. Our ship docks in Eidfjord so the tour takes us on a bus first, then the train-and then apparently up a hill to get a waffle. :)

Thank you both for your replies! I feel more confident about going on this excursion now.

Scenic Flam trip--It sounds like the bus and train is a twisty turny route. Is this likely to cause nausea?

Uber in Bergen?

Not sure why you're wanting/needing an uber but when we did the Homelands cruise several years ago we were able to easily call a taxi and they took us to the airport on the departure day. A staff member arranged the taxi pick up.
