  1. Hello everyone!

I’ll be on my first cruise at the end of this month, Dream out of NOLA on 6/24. I’m taking summer classes and have a few assignments that will be due during the cruise. I’ve asked my professors for early admission, but no-go there!

If I purchase the premium internet package, I could use my laptop for websites (basically just to log into the school’s online database)? Would it be best to access the Internet during wee-hours? How good is premium? Going to Montego Bay, Cayman, & Cozumel if that help!

    Thanks for any advice!

  2. I think you'll be glad you changed to a longer trip.

My only tip for a first cruise is don't try to do everything. There are non-stop activities scheduled. Don't wear yourself out. One of the nicest things about cruising is just relaxing, taking in the ocean views, the waves, the wake.

I hope you have a wonderful time.

Thank you for the tips!! I think initially I was so focused on doing activities but now I’m leaning more towards relaxing on the sea!!

  3. Hey Cruise Critic members!! I have changed my cruise date because I opted for a longer vacation- 7 day due to needing “relaxation time”! :) I’ll be on the Carnival Dream leaving NOLA on 6/24/18 instead of the Triumph (which I’m kind of sad about b/c of the awesome reviews I’ve seen about Triumph)!

I’ll be on Deck 9 in a balcony room: how’s the privacy on the balconies with this deck? I’ve seen some posts about privacy being 50/50; I prefer 100% privacy! Should I switch to a Cove Balcony?

Spam me with tips, opinions, pictures about this the Dream!!! :)

  4. Here you go:

Hotels that currently offer a park and cruise package:

(Transportation to and from the port not included):

Prytania Park (Must stay 2 nights, parking during cruise is free).

Holiday Inn Downtown-Superdome (Must book the cruise package rate.)

Wyndham French Quarter (Must book the cruise package rate.)

Sheraton Metarie (Has a "Rest & Jet" rate designed for those flying from New Orleans that could be used for parking.)

Maison St Charles (Must book park and cruise rate).

Holiday Inn Westbank (Transportation not included)

Hyatt Place Convention Center (discounted parking rate is available)

The hotels below offer transportation TO the port in their park / cruise package. However, you are responsible for finding transportation FROM the port back to your car:

Courtyard by Marriott Westbank/Gretna (Park, Go and Cruise rate offers parking, and transfer to the port only.)

Country Inn and Suites Metarie (Park, Go and Cruise rate offers parking, and transfer to the port only for up to 4 people.)

Crowne Plaza New Orleans Airport (Park and Cruise rate offers parking, and transfer to the port only for up to 2 people.)

Hampton Inn and Suites Convention Center (Transportation to the port included. However, Parking is not free... it is a discounted parking rate while on the cruise.)

I believe the reason why nobody offers a package with transportation both directions has to do with pick up fees charged by the port to anyone offering regular taxi/shuttle service from the port.

Thank you for the time taken to make this list! Very helpful information. Cruising out of NOLA in June!

  5. We just got off the Triumph, didn't enjoy the ship so much, but loved New Orleans and Cozumel. Progreso was nice. Piranha Joes has some fun t-shirts. My daughter was with us and she loves the teen club. Bring some sunscreen, a hat, bug spray, and a dirty clothes bag. We were on deck 9 so being on deck 8 will make it easy to get to the pools and the lido buffet. Have fun.

Thanks! I’ve never been to New Orleans so I’m going to arrive one day prior to the cruise start Date!

  6. I'll be on the Triumph in 34 days. I am super excited. I guess my biggest tip to a new cruiser would be to remember a power strip with usb for charging devices that doesn't have a surge protector. And a battery powered night light.

I’ve seen this one quite a few times! I can’t wait to board in June! Thanks!,

  7. New Orleans is a great city! But you are coming in summer. It's going to be hot and steamy. Bring sunscreen and arrange to go to cool locations. I like the Aquarium if I'm bringing kids. I live in New Orleans, so I stay away from the French Quarter. If I want to "party" I go to Frenchmen's Street or Uptown to Magazine.

Tchoupitoulas in the Warehouse district is fun, too. Cochons is a great restaurant. And Lucy's is a fun bar. But every bar in New Orleans is fun and funky.

    Great tips! Thanks!

  8. Nice room location. Just go up one deck and you're in the lido buffet. My rooms on Triumph didn't have a fridge so bringing a small collapsible cooler and having the room steward bring ice was important. Just ask them on the first day they'll bring a bucket and refill it each time they clean the room.

Glad I picked a good location! I was worried! Thanks for the cooler tip!!
