  1. Hi all

I thought I should post on here instead of the royal Caribbean board because most Americans on there get very angry around this subject. So, I thought the majority of brits on this forum page would answer my question without putting emotions into the answer.

Can we still remove the auto gratuities and just tip by cash to the people we think deserve it at the end of the cruise?

    Thanks

  2. Maybe this would be a good forum to ask about longer cruises. We have always done 7 nights or less on Royal, with our longer sailings on Princess. We booked a 14 night European cruise on the Indy from Southampton next year.

Do they limit you to two bottles for a longer cruise, or do they have different rules for sailings in Europe? And while I am at it, is there a good place to pick up wine in Southampton before the cruise?

Same rules only allowed 2 bottles per cabin.

You can buy wine from any supermarket in Southampton.. in Britain most of our supermarket wines are a screw top, so even easier to open on the ship.

Most have offers too.. so doesn't need to cost the earth! We always bring some new Zealand savignon blanc from Sainsbury's or tesco.

  3. On our honeymoon cruise on navigator, on the second from last night in the MDR we were eating dinner and my husband started going very red and not being able to breath. We rushed him to the infirmary at the bottom of the ship and they gave him an epipen and then put him on fluids for about an hour. He then had a check up visit the next day. Luckily he was seen in time before his airways closed.

He is allergic to nuts and all the waiters and staff knew this. Unfortantly it must gave been a cross containation.

We had many discussions with customer services and the managers (that were very stressful) to get the $500 removed for the medical expenses. They kept saying that it wasn't an accident. In the end they phoned their lawyers and all of a sudden all the expenses disappeared from our on board account and they gave us free drinks for the rest of the cruise!

We had insurance but it was the principle.. we knew we were right in this situation.. and eventually they agreed too.

  4. Hi all, I'm from the UK and just curious about cruising with children.

What age is the earliest a child can cruise?

What is the price of children under 3, as they can't use any of the free kids clubs?

And how much are children older than 3?

What would the best room situation be for children under 3?

    Thank you

  5. Hi all

I read a post the other day that Indie was drydocking in newport! This made me very excited as I was going to be close to Newport for a short break!

We headed in the car, with lots of traffic jams and roadworks. But I didn't mind as I was going to see Indie. We got to the docks in Newport, went up to the barrier, asked the lovely man where independence of the seas was docking. Still very excited...

The man looked blank. So we told him it was a big cruise liner. Again he looked blank and said 'we never have cruise liners here!'.... then the penny dropped! We were in Newport Wales... Indie is in the other Newport!

Very embarrassed we had to drive through the barrier with the lovely security men giving us a thumbs up and laughing! We just smiled and quickly went past trying not to look too embarrassed.

Anyways I know this is a pointless story but I thought I would share how these forums have made me even more excited about royal Caribbean ships.. so much so to embarrass myself and my lovely husband!

  6. It´s been many years I´ve done this, but it wasn´t complicated at all. I vaguely remember I used a fax form, but my memory might fail on that one. Anyway it was easy to do and I definitely did not call about it, I did it either online or via fax.
Thank you, hopefully it will be easy to do

  7. They label some but they do not label ALL of the potential allergens. My wife has a peanut allergy, not life threatening but she gets an instant migraine. Last month on Adventure she grabbed a cannoli from the dessert bar. When she got back to the table with it, I snuck a bite before she did. That was the best thing I did the entire cruise. The cannoli was filled with peanut butter! I went back up to check the label and all it said was "chocolate covered cannoli", no mention of peanuts whatsoever.
That's terrible! If she had a reaction the cruise line would have been at fault!

This is why we avoid the desserts. Well my husband does, I love them. We bring lots of Cadburys chocolate bars so he has that as his dessert.. we also bring Jacobs crackers, so he ca. Get his own cheese and know the crackers are fine.

  8. My husband has nut and egg allergies... we found that the windjammer is brilliant for him. They label the allergies in there now.. and most of the time things with nuts and eggs are not at the same station as foods he wants to eat, so we have had no trouble.

Main dining room is good as long as you stick to the same waiter and order the meal the day before.. however avoid dessert in there as my husband had a cross contamination happen with his cheese plate and had to quickly have an epipen injection and an hour or so in the ships hospital! As the dining room Is catering in the kitchens for so many people mistakes are more likely to happen.. we still go in the main dining room and pre-order the night before, but just avoid any form of dessert.

    Hope this helps

  9. Hi all

I am looking at a cruise on Jewel of the seas next year. It starts in Civitavecchia. I have looked at some transfers from the airport and the easiest sound very expensive. While the cheapest (train) looks complicated.

Could any of you share your experiences if this port and any useful tips.

    Much appreciated

  11. Barcelona is my favourite city in the world! I am a very crime awear person who is very vigilant and do not feel unsafe at all in Barcelona.

Last year me and my husband were there on the day of the terrorist attacks, but still felt safe after it.

Europe is much safer than the US. Yes there may be pickpockets, but they are in all countries. The metro is cleaner and feels way safer than the underground in London.

Don't listen to all the scaremongers, Barcelona is beautiful and the Spanish are lovely people. You will have a brilliant and cultured time there.
