  1. I've decided to just hunker down and accept no travel at all this year and possibly part of next. It's hard, but we need to get this crisis behind us and that should take precedence before anything else. Personally, i'm going to wait until they come out with a vaccine before going anywhere. If that takes another 18 months or more, so be it. The cruise ships will still be there when this is all over.

  2. I messaged Carnival on FB and they replied:

"unfortunately the credit would not carry over. You will be subjected to the new incentives that are offered if that sailing gets canceled"

That's a deal breaker for me. If they yank back the OBC there's no point in booking so far out and it winds up cancelled. Oh well.

  3. If you book with that $500 OBC special is that always yours whether they cancel the cruise or not? In other words, say the cruise is cancelled and I have to rebook, will that $500 in OBC automatically carry over to my next booking? Or could it be taken away?

I just received $100 OBC in October.  It was on my S&S card already.   I’m guessing that it can be used for anything but if you don’t use it, you lose it.

Thanks. I did notice where it said "non refundable" but i'd have no problem finding ways to use every penny of that! 🤑

OP, I’m also looking at the end of November for sailing out of Puerto Rico with $500 OBC and free drinks.

However, health experts are saying it will come back in the fall.  By then, I will have had to make a final payment.  Plus, who knows what airlines will be doing by then.

If I knew I’d get a full refund, I’d consider it.
Also, no need to traipse all the way to Puerto Rico for doing those ports if no ports are letting ships in.

The virus coming back in the fall is a BIG concern for me. I would hate to have an outbreak on the ship and wind up being quarantined an additional 2 weeks after the cruise finishes and not able to go home. That would be a nightmare.

I'm very lucky to be retired and on Social Security, so my income is thankfully unaffected. I've been following all the guidelines and staying inside to allow people to deal with this thing, but I read about so many people not following it and going about their lives, not following social distance rules...it's a shame because that only makes this crisis last even longer.

I originally had a 5 day Vegas trip planned for December, but that's been cancelled and i've just accepted that 2020 will be no travel for me. But this offer is so tempting to take up---i'll be able to renew the hold another 48 hours if I need more time. And the advice on waiting because more deals will certainly come is also good. A lot to think about for sure!!

Thanks for all the great advice!!

But no one answered about the $500 OBC-----do you think that would be useable on casino slot machines? That would definitely make it all the MORE tempting for me!!

  6. I haven't cruised in a while and had absolutely no plans to, but got an email for a special and i'm debating whether to book it or not. It's for Nov. 30 on Liberty to Nassau & Freeport for 4 nights, $475 total, incl port tax/fees. (I've already done that sailing twice before and really like both the itinerary and ship.) And my favorite OV cabin is available!

I'm just so nervous this crisis could still be going on by then but it includes $500 OBC which is so darn tempting!! For the experts here, would that include using it in the casino on the slot machines too?! Gee, i'd hardly have to bring ANY spending money LOL.

Since i'm solo, it would cost $198 for the deposit and i'm just unsure whether to make that kind of financial commitment during all this, but it's such a great offer and I only have 48 hrs to decide!! I just don't know what to do!! 😕

  7. If I booked Early Saver through a $49 deposit sale, and after the sale is over the cruise price drops, would I qualify for the savings? Or would I have to cough up the full deposit now since it's no longer a $49 deposit sale? I see my sailing went down $10 today but with full deposit (I know it's not much, but it's still a savings). Can I request the new lower price since it's still an Early Saver fare, or does the difference in deposit change things and I wouldn't qualify?

  8. For those who aren't fans of the new version,  I was advised that clearing your Carnival cookies will make it revert back to the old version. When I tried that, I got it back to the old page. I despise the new layout mainly because there's no more contrast between the text and page background. The light blue background on the original version is much easier on the eyes whereas the new layout everything is just bright white with small texts. Yuck.

Also, everything seems to be scattered all over the place making navigation a tedious chore.

Looks like they are beta testing again. If you want to try and get back to the "old better" one delete your carnival cookies and keep trying until it reverts back.

Hey, that worked!! Thanks! As soon as I deleted all Carnival cookies, I logged back in to see the old Cruise Manager! I just hope it stays. It's leagues better than that crappy new version. Thanks again...i'm so happy now lol.

My cruise manager looked like that for a while a couple of months ago and it has since gone back to normal. I agree it wasn’t very user friendly. Hopefully yours will go back to normal soon.

I tried logging out and back in to see if i'd get the old version back and I didn't. I don't want to be stuck with this. It's so....unpleasing to the eyes.

Mine has changed as well...and with someone with multiple bookings, it looks like it's going to slightly more cumbersome to navigate.

Cumbersome is a perfect word to describe it. It just seems everything is thrown all over the place now where things were all in one place to easily see at a glance before.

  12. I booked my new cruise yesterday and the Cruise Manager was normal like always, but today I logged in to check it and it's now a whole new layout that's much more difficult to view than before. Everything was always in one place to easily view and now it seems things are all over the place with little tiny fonts and a harsh white background. Big fail if this is considered an upgrade to their website!

  13. The sailing thankfully re-appeared this morning and I managed to to create another 48 hr. hold on it so I can book the cabin I want on Thursday when i'm paid. If it hadn't reappeared, I would've lost the current hold, not been able to make another one, and missed out on the $49 deposit sale that ends on Thursday. They really need to bring their website into the 21st century already.

Playing peek a boo with their sailings is not fun!

  14. Yesterday I chose a 1/25/21 4 day sailing on Liberty to Freeport/Nassau from Pt. Canaveral, and placed it on a 48 hour hold. Tonight I went to Carnival's website to check on the price and also to view other cabin availability options for the sailing, and that sailing is NOWHERE to be found now! I even logged out of the site and checked again, and it's still not showing anywhere as even being offered on Carnival! My 48 hr hold is still intact in my account, but the sailing itself seems to have disappeared as a booking option now. It's weird.

It is showing on other travel websites though. Could it just be a Carnival website glitch?

It's interesting, cruisent, that there's somewhat of a different tenor between your e-mail and the one furnished by the OP.

Maybe both are an indication that Carnival is getting more serious about enforcing its rules and regulations.

I sure hope so, especially in regards to smoking. This will be my first balcony in almost 20 years and i'm praying I don't have puffing neighbors out there.

  16. My cruise is this Sunday and I got a similar e mail the other day titled "Know before you go" I'll try and insert it here....

    Hi Christophe,

Your vacation is right around the corner, and our great crew is excited to welcome you aboard. As you get ready to join us, we want to provide you with important information regarding your upcoming cruise.

Thank you for completing your Online Check-in. You are on your way to a fun and memorable vacation.

    Arrival Information
    • Please plan to arrive at the cruise terminal within your Arrival Appointment time. Guests who arrive outside their assigned time can expect longer wait times.
    • You will need to present a government-issued picture ID (applicable to all guests 16 years and older) and citizenship documents (including any necessary visas), so please have them at hand. While a passport may not be a required document for certain itineraries, if you have a passport, we always recommend bringing it.
    • Staterooms are available at 1:30 PM.
    • Lunch is served on Lido deck until 3:00 PM.
    • Checked luggage delivery service is only available until 2 hours before the ship's published departure time. Guests arriving after this time will be responsible for taking their bags on board.

          Beverage Policy
    • Guests are not allowed to bring hard liquor, beer or bottled beverages, (e.g., water, sodas and other non-alcoholic drinks) on board. Please review our beverage policy here.
    Smoking On Board
    • All staterooms and suite accommodations, including outside balconies, are NON-SMOKING. This policy applies to all forms of smoking, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vaporizers, electronic cigarettes and marijuana. A violation of our smoking policy will result in a $500 charge, per violation, posted to the guest’s Sail & Sign® account. Please review our Tobacco and Marijuana Smoking Policy here.
    Gratuities
    • It is customary for guests to extend gratuities to the shipboard staff in appreciation for their hard work and exceptional service. To help you plan, we have provided recommended guidelines. Click here for more information.
    Radios and Speakers
    • Personal devices for listening to music or watching shows/movies should be used with ear phones.

    Mobility Devices
    • For the safety of all our guests and crew, mobility devices cannot be left in hallways or other public areas.
    • Mobility devices must be stored in the guest’s stateroom in a manner that does not block a clear and safe exit path from the stateroom.
    • Unless you have reserved a fully accessible stateroom, mobility devices must be able to fit in a standard stateroom with a 22" entry doorway. Please click here for full details.

    Personal Safety
    • Although everyone’s safety is our number one concern, all guests should take responsibility for their own personal safety.  You’re on a moving ship, so please hold on to handrails when possible and be conscious of high thresholds when walking around.
    • When out on deck, be mindful of wet surfaces (especially by the pool area), always wear shoes/sandals and dry-off before enjoying any of our outdoor sports equipment.
    • If guests are traveling with children, please familiarize yourself with the rules to safely enjoy our water park and outer deck sports features.

Now that we’ve taken care of business, you can get back to planning all the fun you’re going to have.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard for a FUN and memorable cruise vacation.  See you soon!

    Sincerely,

    The Carnival Liberty Fun Team
  17. This will be my first time with the new check in where the the Sail & Sign card is waiting in the mailbox. I read the lines move much faster now and wondering if you're still able to place funds to your on board account before boarding at the port, or with the new speedy lines, you have to wait till you're on the ship and go to Guest Services for that. Can anyone confirm I can still do it while in the terminal? Thanks.

    Heads up / FYI ...

Check your favorite forum, maybe log out & log back in again ... Norwegian forum seemed to be back, at the moment - still a bit sluggish.  Probably a fair # of CC addicts gave up, reducing demands on the DBMS cloud server, easing bandwidth & processing bandwidth, or whatever.

Enjoy it while it last, until the next cycle of partial forum failure.

Reminds me of 1995 AOL when more people would dial up at busy times of the day to connect and then you'd suddenly get kicked off with that dreaded "Goodbye!" and get disconnected. Then it would take multiple attempts to log back on and sometimes you couldn't. It's incredible that it still happens with websites almost 25 years later! Are we going forwards or backwards?!
