In Aruba, I recommend Clive with Dive Aruba.  He has a small 6 pack boat and knows the dive sites inside and out.

In Bonaire, an option is to go to one of the resorts, rent tanks and shore dive.  There is very easy shore diving at Captain Don's.

I would also recommend diving in Curacao.  We always take a taxi to Dive Bus, rent tanks and shore dive.  The entry is just a short walk across the street from their shop.  They have a site map and are happy to give an excellent dive briefing.  I can't speak highly enough about their service.  If you are not comfortable going yourselves, you can also hire a guide to go with you.  Curacao is always one of our favorite and inexpensive cruise dive days.  We also usually have to go back to the ship for a quick change and venture into town for a couple of hours.

Thanks for the info!  I've sent Dive Bus an e-mail requesting a quote.  Do you normally reserve ahead or just show up?

I will also check into Dive Aruba, because I have not received a response back from Happy Divers in Aruba.

  2. Hi Everyone,

I'm traveling on RCCL Adventure of the Seas for a 12 night South Caribbean Cruise in May.  Our stops are Oranjestad Aruba, Willemstad Curacao, Kralendijk Bonaire, St John's Antigua and Charlotte Amalie St. Thomas.  My wife and I are avid divers but have not gone scuba diving at these locations and this will be the first time we've considered booking through RCCL excursions.

    We are considering the following:

Aruba - two-tank  2 wreck dive through Royal Caribbean AR51 (Excursion Link)

Bonaire -  Marine park dive BO20 (Excursion Link)

St. Thomas - two-tank wreck and coral dive ST68 (Excursion Link)

What are your past experiences, thoughts, opinions?

    Thanks in advance!!!

  3. Sandbar Island Getaway was Great!

My only recommendation is to swim out from the island a little ways and look at the sunken bucaneer ships cannons. There are a bunch of cannons laying on the bottom and I didn't know until we were leaving otherwise I would have snorkeled out there (since I brought my snorkel gear)

Watch out for sea urchants (anywhere you go in labadee has them) and you'll love the beach!

Just wanted to post an update for future cruisers trying to make a decision.

Malfini was nice, I'd pick that 1st and Sandbar Island Getaway 2nd. But Malfini wins by a very thin hair. (The view is a little more amazing at Malfini)

  4. Hey everyone,

I've been to malfini before in labadee and enjoyed it very much, so I was trying to figure out if I should try something different this time and go to the Sandbar Island Getaway. The description looks great, but I'm looking for some input from someone who has been to the Sandbar Island Getaway to tell me the positives and negatives of it. Thanks, I've included the description below of the tour.

    Sandbar Island Getaway

Come along and experience a slice of paradise! Hop aboard a stylish motorized catamaran for a leisurely ride through Haiti's fantastic reef system while en route to one of natures beautiful creations. This is a great way to experience the picturesque sites of Haiti's mountainous north coast. Once at the Sandbar enjoy a 360 degree view as you literally stand in the middle of the ocean - shipwreck on one side, a tropical island on another, turquoise waters and mountains as far as you can see! So go for swim, sun-tan, relax and maybe make some new friends. At the Sandbar your friendly crew will be spinning the tunes and making sure everyone is enjoying the Caribbean beauty. The catamaran has an ideal layout with comfortable seating and a bar on each deck. A complimentary fruit and rum punch is included. A cash bar will be available onboard the catamaran.
