I just looked and since the cruise is less than a year away, the only aft cabins still available on the Jan 21 are these in the aft on deck 12. There are none of any I mentioned above on the Jan 4 cruise.

Thank you for taking the time for such a detailed answer ... you have made our decision a lot easier of where and when  ... let the planning begin ..

  2. I have been reading your journey and now looking at Jan 2025. we usually book AFT at back/back but thinking of switching to a side one for this one ... still AFT but trying to see which deck  and balconies are best ...weather permitting of course  we will spend quite at lot of time out there so thinking more sheltered than open ...any suggestions where to pick or not to  would help us a lot  again thank you for taking us on your journey .

Not all cruise/travel agencies are of the same quality and the knowledge/skill of agents varies from worthless to terrific.  When it comes to repricing there is no hard and fast rule as it will depend on the specific type of booking you made (refundable, non-refundable, etc), the promos you got with your original booking, the negotiating skill of your agent, etc.  I consider myself a real cruise pro (been cruising extensively for over 40 years) but still make mistakes...some of them costly.  On the other hand, I also get some amazing deals :).  To me it is all fun.  My favorite cruise agent retired a few years ago (so she had more time to cruise) and my current favorite is a young lady who is still learning...but she does have her good moments.  We just returned from a cruise that we booked with a new (for us) cruise agency who did give us a terrific deal.  But I was not excited by their customer service which just cost them an $18,000 booking (made onboard a cruise and transferred to an old favorite agency who was willing to kick-in an additional $1800 in OBCs.

So here is the thing about this "cruise game."  The $1800 OBC we got from this particular agent would not be given if we kept our booking directly with Princess.  This particular cruise is still a long way off...so there will possibly be some price reduction and or promotions that we can apply.  If I was dealing direct with Princess it would be one person dealing with a Princess reservations clerk sitting in his/her cubicle and doing what they can do to advantage Princess.  But my cruise agent works for a high volume agency that has a lot more clout then one cruiser...plus they deal with Princess (and other lines) dozens of times per day.  I will put my money (guess I have already done that) on the cruise agency.

As to the OP's post, there are times when if you want to "refare" a cruise to take advantage of a price drop or promo...you are going to lose some or all of previous promos.  In the case of our most recent expensive booking we are keeping everything "refundable" which gives us the flexibility of saying, "no no no"  cancel my reservation!  Having the ability to cancel without penalty gives me more leverage.  Since we cruise with many lines there is no problem with telling Princess where to go (cancelling) and booking something else.  When you have an open mind, are willing to change and experiment, the world is at your doorstep.  Get fixed in your ways (or cruise lines) and you lose much of your advantage.  Consumers have choices.  When you give up your ability to choose you become easy prey to those to whom you are "loyal."   Having the ability, and willingness, to take your business elsewhere is real power.  Once you give up that power (by booking with single cruise line or agency)…..you are just fodder for the slaughter.

    Thank you

  4. NCL really throw a curve ball this time little or no communication for Graphic Guy expect for the most important part early departure so if your not in the area already please make sure you present your self before the deadline or we will leave with out you.

After triple checking the decision was made to go....only to find out that the POM will be closed.

NCL could of got permission to dock at PE or another nearby port that could handle the ship. They have enough provisions on board. As they have been in close contact with the Ports . ...Port fees are paid by the passengers and NCL could of offered a $30 p.p credit for your choice of  shuttle/uber and such . Would of made the situation a little more bearable for all on and off the ship.

Hoping you can change your return ticket to today as they are offering waivers and helping their customers to the best of the their ability.

Get your boxing gloves on for the fight to recover money spent . Please let us know how it goes.

  5. Seen a price drop took a screen shot sent it to TA usually book direct but sailing with others. 1st  time on Princess.

Her answer was no category cabin available  if there was I would lose all perks and re-fare at present promotion and price.

    Before final payment

I have always got price drops and kept cabin and perks but like I mentioned it was booked with a TA with their own perks

Not  sure if I got the right answer?????

  6. It has been 25 years since I booked air together with a cruise   ....Looking at non-stop flights and looks like Air Transat is best price and times just wondering if seat selection and checked baggage is included in their price I called but the agent only said it isnt basic🙄 couldnt answer anything about seats or baggage.

Prices have almost doubled since January 2019 just trying to make the best choice. TIA.

  7. Traveled last May  One of our best cruises - NO rain -Got a sunburn in Alaska and Vancouver 23c and Sunny.

We packed for 3 seasons only used 1 season hope you have the same luck

We did Celebrity Solstice  Vancouver to Seattle had Sunset Veranda at the back of the ship. We couldn't decide what side was best so the back was best for us.

Slept with the balcony door open - the fresh air

Vancouver had an amazing time -Stayed at the Hyatt 5 min walk to port for 3 nights did a lot of walking also did the Capilano Bridge.

Just across from  Canada Place is a tourist office with discounts to many things.

Gastown, Stanley Park, The island if you have time Tofino

NO Uber in Vancouver..... Taxi is flat rate from airport on a grid system or Skytrain.

Alaska Excursions on board are quite pricey we are a family of 3 adults and we averaged $200 u.s( we are Canadian) each  we did 3 in total.. After we purchased them they did have a 25% off special  on some and they did credit us  the difference.

Usually don't book through ship glad we did .....No happen to us but the ship had to wait for a few hours extra in 2 ports

Train broke down going to the Yukon, A whale boat lost power about an hour away.

Depending on the policy,  I am not sure this  would have been covered with insurance.

Sometimes I wish either the cruise line or Cruise Critic (people in the know) would  come on and comment when assumptions are made and state what the facts or policies are. Some can read what 1 poster write and others agree to as fact and could end up hurting them in the future.

I have travel insurance and credit card travel insurance . Never leave Canada without it.

  9. I want to thank everyone for their positive and negative responses.

I am the least dramatic person you would meet but I am very detailed and organized in everything I do.

This trip was a last minute booking  I have been trying not plan so much as my husband would say relax and recharge life is too short hence going  solo this time around.

With this cold and snowy weather  I am looking forward to my next cruise with family 🙂

so if you were in this persons shoes you would leave the terminal and go get a hot dog from a hot dog cart. Think about this before you give stupid advice. Imagine coming back and A. they dont let you back in or B. you get back in to find out they came looking for you and now its too late and now they can say its your fault for walking away.

Thank you ....I was not allowed to leave they had my passport  and my extra print off of my confirmation I travel with 2 copies in case of one gets lost and I was in a secure area after they closed the 1st terminal.
