  1. I really don't understand how the misconception of toilet seat cleanliness still persists:rolleyes:. They are cleaned multiple times a day. If not you would most likely see a lot more stains in the public toilets;p, how else do people think they stay so white? Though the security tray thing makes me wonder do the staff who handle these trays have higher rates of illness than other airport staff?

    They wear gloves!

  2. I work at FLL as wheelchair assist. ( on JetBlue flights )

I am on the jet bridge and see the JetBlue ramp agents hand carrying them up for the passengers that gate checked their strollers. ( large and small strollers ) They come up with the walkers and personal wheelchairs. I can only speak for what I see on the JetBlue flights though.

  3. I'll be back your way in November, and 15th street fisheries will be my first stop for lunch, even before my DH plane arrives. Since I'm staying at the Marriott Renaissance which is close the Hilton Marina, is there any walking bridge to cross the channel? After DH shows up, we will try the Boatyard, since it is super close to our hotel.

Still think this thread is very valuable

You could take the water taxi right from the back of your hotel to 15th Street Fisheries. It is literally just one street over. ( no bridge ) I haven’t eaten at Boatyard but I personally know the outside bartender ( Tim ) and he’s fantastic!!! I know their happy bar snacks are yummy!!

  4. What is the cheapest category in Star class? Would love to sail with a minimum of 4-6 people on Symphony or Harmony. Is 2 bedroom Aqua theater suite the cheapest?? Sorry I’m a working class stiff but would love to be treated like royalty once....that would be awesome!!!!! Anytime of year...no problem. I live in Ft Lauderdale and I’m a veteran...Gold status. ( next 7 day cruise on Allure in October...ocean view balcony )

  5. 15th Street Fisheries is awesome. Near the port!!! It’s on the inter coastal. Great food and the outside deck is very casual!! Try a mojito and the Lauderdale Marina Salad!!!!! ( lots of crab and shrimp )

Another good one is Coconuts. It’s on the water and near the beach. Try the crab cake salad or BLT crab cake sandwich! Best crab cake I’ve ever had!!!

The “WhatsApp” has 1.76 million users! Great app!!! I used it when my daughter was in Turkey for the summer. You could message, talk and FaceTime and didn’t cost me a thing!!!

  7. Didn’t realize this was such a big deal...bed by the balcony or bathroom. This will be our 3rd cruise and our 1st balcony room. Allure rm 7612. I’m beyond excited for this cruise.( October 21, 2018 ) I seem to be on CC every day reading and learning new things about everything!! I believe we are on the starboard side which I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing? So is the bed by the balcony or bathroom? AND being starboard will we see more of the port when we are docked? Will we see sunrises or sunsets?? ( western Caribbean )

    Thanks in advance!!

  8. I’ve seen a lot of posts saying 6-7 alcoholic drinks is the break wvwn. But one person explained it a different way that I liked. They said to think of it this way: the refreshment package costs $26, that gets you bottled water, specialty coffees, soda and non alcoholic mixed drinks (like piña coladas). For $16 extra dollars, you can get unlimited alcohol. $16 is just really 1-2 alcoholic drinks. So if you would buy the refreshment package anyway for the coffee, soda and water, and you know you’ll have about 2 alcoholic drinks or more a day, it’s a very good value.

That sounds more reasonable to me than thinking of it in terms of $42 worth of alcohol drinking a day, which can seem excessive to someone who isn’t a big drinker. I myself would still not get value out of the alcohol package because 2 drinks 7 days in a row is more alcohol than I drink in a whole year, but it is a very reasonable number for most people.

Basically what I’m saying is to think of the alcohol package as costing you $16 for the alcohol. For a lot of people, that is definitely worth it as long as you also drink the stuff covered in the non-alcohol portion on a daily basis too.

I know I had asked the same question. And all I heard was that you’d have to drink 6-7 drinks a day. It didn’t seem like anyone was taking into consideration the cost of the refreshment package...bottled water sparkling/flat, Coca Cola, Vitamin Water, juices and lattes. Which is also part of the alcohol drink package. Thanks for sharing this[emoji41]

  9. Thanks Foodluvr!! LoL cb at sea. I haven’t cruised since 2012 and didn’t even realize VW was an option...just happened to see someone mention it in a post. Something with a little flavor as opposed to plain water all the time! Gotta stay hydrated with all the fruity drink choices.

  10. Thank you fellow Cruise Critic posters for ALL of your suggestions and excellent advice. My family of 5 just returned from our long awaited and planned for cruise. We had an early flight into FLL the day before and took a Lyft (nice Chevy Suberban) to the Embassy Suites. After reading the very "mixed" reviews, I was sweating it a bit. Kathleen at the front desk was great! She would expedite check in for one room, we dropped our bags in the holding room, and we were off to lunch!

We walked to Laspadas for hoagies and it did not disappoint! It's a little dive that makes a great sub sandwich (we're from NJ and we call them subs!) We then went to Publix and Total Wine and by then, our rooms were available.

Yes, the Embassy Suites is older and a bit tired, but for a family group, for one night, it was ideal. The location was especially great. DH and I walked back to Publix and hopped on the Sun Trolley ($1- really) for a beach tour. The preparations were in full swing for the following weekend's Tortuga Music Festival. We knew that was happening so we planned accordingly for our return.

That night, we walked to Gilbert's for a great dinner. Low key, terrific burgers- what could be better?

We slept well. Bedding was good, room was quiet, and breakfast was fine. We called a Lyft and off we went to the port!

When we disembarked, our return flight wasn't until 7:20pm. The crowds and craziness of the Tortuga Music Festival would make the beach area and the water taxi poor choices for the day. We rented a car from Alamo (great except my confirmation info didn't include the phone number for the shuttle pick up). We drove to the Everglades (easy 30 min drive) and took an airboat ride. We saw alligators and crossed it off our to do list. After a simple lunch we drove to Davie (less than 30 min) and went to the Flamingo Gardens. We all loved it! Non-commercial, botanical garden with wonderful animal exhibits. We arrived just in time for the educational animal show and then went into the aviary and experienced the feeding process. I had found a coupon online and with it and a Senior discount, the admission was less than $20 pp. We then headed back to the airport with plenty of time to kill. The car rental was less than $100 and drop off was at the terminal. Easy.

LaSpada’s is a local favorite! ( grew up riding my bike to the original LaSpada’s in LBS ) Glad you enjoyed your time in Ft Lauderdale!!
