A gty is for any inside cabin. Probably bottom deck. They dont have specific 4j gty.

I got one by accident and hated it. Was a hc cabin and beds were end to end not together, half the cabin was the roll in bathroom. Had to close the black out curtains at night. I like to wake up and see the weather outside.

I booked a port hole. They upgraded me without telling me. I didnt book this awful cabin. I wanted my bigger port hole I actually booked. My pvp said they have the right to change your cabin without notice.

Thank you!! This is exactly what I needed to know! 🙂

  2. Hi! Question about booking the GTY rooms. I am looking at booking a Category 4J room (window with walkway view). It is giving me an option to book GTY. Does that mean I will get Category 4J or better? Or could it technically be ANY inside stateroom?

    Thanks for any help! 🙂

  3. I was in that long long line on embarkation day!  I’ve cruise many time and this was our first on NCL. We showed up around noon, knowing there would be some line - but this was crazy. And no workers or signage just people pushing and shoving their way in. Sort of crazy. Took us almost three hours to get through security and then get checked in.

Getting off the ship this morning was a similar story. Took us about 2.5 hours from the time our luggage tags were called until we were at the curb waiting for our shuttle.

I’m not sure if all NCL cruises are like this - or if it was just the port of LA not being super great. It all worked out fine in the end - and I’ll be prepared next time to wait if we cruise out of San Pedro again.

All in all an amazing cruise!

Puerto Plata is somewhat of a newcomer to the cruise industry. A new cruise terminal/welcome center is currently being built, and this port of call is starting to pop up on several itineraries across various cruise lines.

If you want to get a feel for what excursions or activities may be like, you can search for Amber Cove. This port was built by Carnival Corp a few years back and its in the vicinity of Puerto Plata, so many excursions and activities for ships docking at Amber Cove will be similar to the ones on ships that will be docking at the new Puerto Plata cruise terminal. To my understanding, only ships belonging to Carnival Corporation call at Amber Cove while ships from other cruise lines will call at the new terminal at Puerto Plata. Somewhat similar to Roatan, Honduras where Carnival Corp ships go to Mahogany Bay and all others go to Coxen Hole.

    Have a great cruise!

Ahhhhh ... this makes sense!!!!  I was mostly wondering "where" Puerto Plata is so I can see how far certain parts of the DR are from the port.  I have found lots on Amber Cove but also know is it just for Carnival Corp.  I'm looking forward to visiting the DR.  I hope the pier is done and ready for us in 2021!

Have you done a search for Puerto Plata, rather than Dominican Republic?  There is some info (though not excursions) on our TA's website, as well as on some travel sites.

It might be worth posting on the Ports of Call boards, too.

    Thank you!  🙂

Is this part of the Grand Voyage going to Puerto Plata? It's too far out to have excursions confirmed with vendors.

@jdvmd it’s just a 7 night cruise. I know it’s too far out but for all of their other ports of call they have a page with info about the port, and examples of excursions, etc. I can’t find anything about the DR on their website. Even when you go to the map, DR is not a choice for ports of call. So I was just curious. 😊😊😊

  7. Alright - I know I've got a long time to wait, but I like to distract myself by planning cruises.  🙂

We have a March 2021 cruise on the Seaside.  Right now the stops include San Juan, St. Thomas, Dominican Republic and Ocean Cay.

Yesterday I was just doing some DR reading and it seems like MSC has not been there before?  I can't find any info

on where they will actually dock, and can't find any info on the MSC site regarding excursions or things to do like they have

for their other ports of call.

Was just curious what you - the experts! - know... I wonder if we really will stop there?

Side note - this particular cruise has a funky itinerary (San Juan 5pm - 1am, St. Thomas 8am-2pm, then full day in DR and Ocean Cay).

    Happy Friday!

  8. Good Morning!

We are cruising on the Joy out of LA in December.  I'm curious if anybody can share the Debarkation process.

We had an afternoon flight out of LAX and just got notice that the flight time has been bumped up to 10:50am.

What time are people usually off the ship in LA?

Trying to decide if that is too early to make our flight?  Can we walk off with our luggage quicker? (I've done that before on another line).

We have a private transfer already booked so waiting for a shuttle won't be an issue.

    Thanks for any advice!

All three of the Main Dining Rooms will have a traditional Christmas Dinner-  Turkey and all that goes with it.  It was more than I could eat-- been on The Getaway twice for Christmas.

The ship will be decorated.  Somewhere on the ship will be a huge Gingerbread Village display.  The Officers will go caroling through the ship on Christmas Eve ending with a singalong in the lobby.

Santa will arrive on Christmas morning.  Even if you do not have kids- it is so much fun to watch.  Each child gets their picture taken with Santa ( some are happy, others not so much) and each gets a wrapped gift.

    It is great fun.

Awesome, thank you!  We are a group and will have a few kids with us so this will be fun!  We will make sure to do our specialty dining on other nights.

  10. Hello!

Starting to pencil out our dining plans for our December 22-29 cruise in the Joy.  I'm curious about dinner ON Christmas?

Is there a special menu in the main dining room?  I'm wondering if we should do the main dining room that night,

or opt for a specialty restaurant.  Looking for feedback from anybody who has cruised over Christmas. We never have!

I know it wouldn't be exactly the same, but just curious about peoples past experiences...

    Thanks!

    Question:

Did you change your clocks at all during the cruise or did you stay on "ship time" aka Miami time the whole cruise?

Trying to book some independent excursions and wanted to make sure I had the times correct   Thanks!

On the 3/23 we changed the clocks twice to match the time where we were going.  We jumped an hour forward one night, and then an hour back a couple nights later.

  12. We were on this cruise and loved it!  We didn't use the kids club but after reading some good reviews, maybe we should have.  We took our 7 year old during the open house and it was sooo busy, she was immediately overwhelmed and then didn't want to go back any of the other days.  I'm so glad we had the laid back YC vibe, and enjoyed exploring the rest of the ship in small doses.  I'm also sorry you missed the champagne bar - the blueberry sparkler (made for me "not so sweet") was amazing.  I may have over did it though.  One of the nights the bartender started making them for me in large wine glasses.  LOL.

I knew about the solution to the bathroom smell from Chengkp75 but the OP’s description in post #45 says it is there every time they go to that cabin.  And in the cabin...that’s not depending on how the wind is blowing.  I have a 14 night cruise booked in 18003 so this really  has me worried!!

We were on the same cruise in 18003 and had no sewage smell.

A few wiffs here and there on the ship but nothing like was describe when the Seaside first sailed.

We just got off 18003 ... loved our room and did not have any smell!

  16. Things are really starting to get real - we set sail Saturday!

I was just going through my boarding documents.  It looks like our boarding time is 1:30pm.  Does YC follow

those times as well?  Or can we show up to the port a bit earlier?  What have other people done?  I think we

need to be out of our hotel at 11:00am and were just planning to head to the port.

    Thanks!

  17. Hi all!

21 Days until we cruise!  We will be on the Seaside in YC.  Wondering if Coconut Water is

an option to order in the bars?  As a non alcoholic drink option?

Also - Can we bring any drinks on board with us at all?

    Thanks!
