We got charged the extra $2.70 on Independence, weekend of June 23. We were a party of three.
I don't think it's so much the amount, just the fact that they charged it. We already bought the Ultimate dining package. We knew and accepted the upcharge, but yet they had to charge another $2.70. I'm a Royal fan and don't cruise any other lines, but I do get tired of the nickel and dime routine.

It’s not hard; that’s a cop out.
it’s black and white, right and wrong.
What is so wise about refusing to confront the issue yourself?
if more of these inconsiderate people were confronted, then perhaps they would think twice about pulling a stunt like that again.
Again, this is just me, but I never ever back down from a situation like this; if nothing else, it forces management to address the issue.
I believe I understand why they didn't do anything - it's because people are crazy, and unless you are prepared to 1) physically defend yourself and when you do defend yourself, be prepared to most likely 2) be placed in the brig and 3) not allowed to cruise RC ever again, you let management handle it.
My group witnessed something awful on Independence, while waiting for the MTD person to call our reservation number. There was a medium-sized guy, not super built but somewhat built who was vocally reacting to each reservation called with some sort of comment. He was unhappy that he was having to wait. Comments like "Lies!" and "They are lying." were flying around. We tend to think he was overserved as well.
An older woman (I'm 62, I'm guessing she was somewhere around my age) confronted him. She was sitting on on of the couches/seats outside the MDR, and in a calm voice, she said something like "Now, that's enough. You've said enough". This guy said "YOU GOT SOMETHING TO SAY TO ME?" and stepped over to her and punched her in the face. To be quite honest, I witnessed the comments and behavior, but our number had just been called (LIES!) and a server was taking us to our table. As soon as we started walking, I asked the server if he could call security, and he said it was being handled, but I did not see the punch, I asked for verification regarding the woman being punched from a couple of the servers and they confirmed that's what happened.
I remain stunned. I trained in martial arts. I am older now, but could maybe still defend myself, but who would ever think some drunk jerk would punch an older woman in the face ...
While hindsight is 20/20, I'm thinking I would have requested to be seated elsewhere.

There’s a tote bag for reaching 340 points? Guess I missed that one… I have a really Cool hat from around 15 years ago, though

I called the Crown and Anchor desk. The rep told me the ship is completely sold out , NO availability of any suites, or any other categories. Thanks Clarea, you were correct!

Royal up will only show those rooms available for upgrade.
That's strange, because the last time I was able to see the 2/7/20 Explorer on "Find a Cruise" (which was just before Christmas), there were no suites (GS and above) available, yet, I received a Royal Up email 12/31. Maybe I need to clear the cache on my browser (or sacrifice a chicken to the RC IT gods). Can anybody else get to that sailing through RCI's "Find a Cruise" on the web site?

Royal up option worked for this cruise yesterday (still debating).
Actually, that's why I looked under "Find a Cruise". I wanted to see what was actually available for upgrade before I placed a bid....

I've seen reports as such.
Thanks for the info. I'll try to stop worrying 🙂

Could it be sold out?
I do not know - this is the first time I have experienced the disappearing cruise scenario. Do they disappear from "Find a Cruise" when sold out? Maybe that's what happened, if so.

I suspect we haven't met, I'd remember running into a bear on a cruise ship. (your profile picture)
That's my late, beloved yellow labrador. She had so much fun in that ski mask (knew she looked good).

Probably in hopes of finding someone who has gone through something similar.
Someone on CC has accidently broken something before. Someone here has experienced something like this. Maybe not a broken mirror but maybe a broken lamp or ripped a sofa cushion by accident.
I also don't see where the child was reported to have throw the brush at anyone.
Twangster, I don't believe we have met (maybe, somewhere via RC Periscopers) , but I hope I get to meet you some day.

Last I heard the dry dock was April 11 to May 26.
Thank you for your response - just kind of freaking me out that our 2/07/20 Explorer cruise doesn't show up when I look on RCI's website.

I noticed the absence of Explorer February '20 9 night cruises last week. Anyone heard if the dry dock schedule is sliding to the left? And of course, I got a "Royal Up" email today for the 2/7/2020 sailing, which no longer shows in the "Find a Cruise" part of the RCI website ...

Sorry - haven't been on the boards since my post. I believe she is headed to dry dock in mid-May. Mariner is coming to PC, and Harmony will be doing a couple of 3-nighters out of PC as well.

I agree with the rust. We sailed late in 2018, then a couple of times so far this year. In my opinion, there has been a definite downturn with respect to the outside of the ship. Lots of visible rust. Not just in spots, but like it's draining down on the rest of the ship from above. I was thinking maybe it was cost saving because they are going to dry dock, but like I said, just my opinion. The inside was just as the OP said, looked great. BTW, I have mentioned the rust on the last couple of surveys.
As usual, the crew was outstanding. Galveston folks, y'all are going to love her.

I loved the little chocolates. Remember one time after a few too many drinks I plopped into bed without taking the chocolates off the bed. Overnight they came unwrapped and got smeared into the sheets. It looked like, well you can imagine. I made sure to track down our cabin attendant the next morning before he made up our room to explain what happened. He had a good laugh and said it happens quite a bit!
That is EXACTLY what I was referring to!

I remember chocolate mints on the pillows after turndown service 🙂 (and also waking up with one stuck to my head). Still liked them though!

I love the "Haute and Steamy" offered in Chops Grille (and perhaps other specialty restaurants). The MDR did not know what that was, so I chose the Irish Coffee. Both excellent!

HELLOOOOO! Enjoying your scopes and review! Hope to see some car bomb action later:cool:

I was on Oasis in early July. Some of the waiters were relentless about dining packages on Embarkation Day, and feigned ignorance about the D+ BOGO specialty deal. We had grabbed a table outside the Pub, with all of our stuff, as we waited for the rooms to open. One waiter approached me repeatedly, at least 4 times, trying to sell me on a dining package. I was finally able to nicely discourage him from asking me again. Four different people approached us as we were sitting at the pub, walking through the Royal Promenade, outside the Windjammer, and son on. I managed to keep my cool until the 5th person walked into the Champagne Bar (I think that's the name) as I was getting a beverage, and I finally gave an emphatic "NO!" I wasn't rude, but enough is enough. I didn't get any more requests after that ...

We got back on 7/8/18. Ship was beautiful - nothing broken that I could tell.
-
That scenario could have happened on any cruise line.
:rolleyes: Let's not forget how hard Royal works the crew members with very little time off and low pay. Definately a reason to be Loyal to Royal. To bad they don't publicly recognize them for this.
I've read through your post and the post you quoted, and I don't understand your point. It looks like you are attacking a 19-year old for saying something positive. Is that it?

I live in Oviedo, a "suburb" of Orlando (3 miles from the University of Central Florida). I took my husband, two sons, and dear daughter in law on a cruise sailing from Port Canaveral. Knowing that organizing that group is like herding cats, I decided it would be best for us to be in Port Canaveral the night before sailing, so I booked a two-bedroom suite. It was a Saturday. We had a flat tire on the way to Port Canaveral. It was 10:00 pm before we got to the hotel. Seem like a waste? Imagine if we had waited until the next day to go to Port Canaveral . . .

I'm afraid I'm a little more blunt than that. I look them straight in the eye and say "From this point, every time I hear the word 'survey' I subtract a point."
They don't mention it agin.
