  1. Sorry I was not clear and did not fully get the gist of your question. Are you talking to their passenger assistance department? Are you wanting to use to get her onto plane or take it as a carryon? They may have to use theirs to get her inside plane due to size, but you are supposed to be able to have needed medical devices with you as carryon. Sometimes due to space though, they may need to gate check the item. Meaning they put it on themselves and bring it back to you at the end of the flight So will not get lost.Do not regular check item and make sure well identified and tagged also. Do be diligent and stay on them and be clear about what you need.

  2. Thirty One Bags sells a Mini Storage Bin that is round, has handles at the top, and the dimensions look as if it would hold plates stacked on each other. It has s depth of 8 inches I believe. You can go to their website, ThirtyOne.com and they have pictures and dimensions. Might be an option

Thanks will check it out. Never heard of them. Have seen round bottomed bags in the past but when you need on...

  3. Are there any nutrient-rich liquid supplements she could bring, so that she's assured of getting the calories/nutrients she needs? I'm sure, once you're ON the ship, you will fall into a routine for meals, but just in case....

She can drink almost nothing. All liquid supplements come back up. Gets fluid through port but if drinks, cannot eat at all. Since only can eat limited food, eats only the best proteins and vegetables and some fruit and very healthy fats, no carbs, no sugar. Has to reserve space for food and supplement pills. Lyme disease led to gastroparesis and intestinal issues which led to multiple surgeries which did a number on her. Manage fine at home but cannot go to store on a cruise ship but a cruise is easier than a land trip. She is my hero and glad she s still with me.

  4. Have you tried to coordinate any of this with the special needs department? They should be able to come up with a solution for you. They should also be able to waive any room service fees because of your wife's disability.

Special needs contacted. Room service waived. Nothing room service menu will fulfill her needs Romaine is not nutrient dense enough vegetable for her. She will have to supplement with extra stuff that can be eaten cold. Room service is VERY LIMITED as to how they do things I was told and no substitution in how they cook food at all or special needs so not even sure they have a protein source on room service menu she can eat. May have to get that from MDR. May be easier on ship, but from talking to special needs shore side have to be prepared. Told she may need to go several places to get what she needs. So, we are looking on it as a ship scavenger hunt to find the items she needs and ones I need. Should be interesting. She spends her time worrying about my diet and just will not eat if too difficult. Just trying to see that I help take care of her too.

  5. Have you contacted the special needs department, they will work with you to arrange exactly what food you need and arrange for it to be delivered to your cabin. There is no need to carry plates from the MDR to your cabin.

Special needs only says to meet with staff first day on ship. Cannot say what policy is whether they help carry food there etc... She does not like to be demanding but has needs that must be met. We are just trying to plan for if we have to take care of more transporting of the food with RCCL than did with other CL. Already been told that room service cannot accommodate as other CL did. By time onboard will be too late to get something to help with transporting and do self sufficiently. I hear complaints about those carrying plates on elevators on CC. Someone on a scooter cannot drive and carry much w/o some planning. She spends much of her time on board making sure my food allergies are taken care of. Just trying to plan for how we get hers needs met onboard if transporting ourselves is required. Requires food in the cabin. Lean meat and most nutrient rich vegetables for breakfast. I keep hearing complaints about cuts to RCCL cuts to wait staff. If she feels she is overly inconveniencing others she will just not eat and stay in bed. Special needs shoreside and onboard are 2 very different things. Better prepared than not.

  6. Problem is dealing with round plates which need to be stacked whether they use lid or we use plastic wrap. On CC always someone who has seen everything and has a good solution. I thought a bag or carrier that has a round bottom that a plate could be set in might exist. Just remembered we were given a Christmas storage bag we have never used that is round. The dimensions are too large- they do not have giant plates and it is fairly sturdy not really a foldable inconspicuous item to carry around till needed. Really looking for a way to take the plates RCCL gives us and easily carry w/o transferring food while others eat. For some items DW could actually go into tutti bar and ask for some of this in a ziplock and some of that in another zip lock to serve for a few days, but my understanding is that they will put on a plate instead. She will still need other items special cooked that will definitely come on a plate.

  7. Wife having had much GI surgery + long list of issues (too much to explain but if you really want me to I will go into depth) can actually eat little but only the most nutrient rich foods. Eats for breakfast in our cabin items not served at breakfast anywhere on the ship, so must get some of those items at lunch and or dinner to have for next morning. Room service is not flexible in how they prepare food for those with special diets, so must get from MDR or WJ. Since she does not like to ask stewards to re heat food items for her, so she tries to get items she can consume cold. She does not like to inconvenience others. Often even at dinner if with us she either cannot eat much (or any) in public and will need to take something to eat later. I have multiple food allergies so if something I actually can eat (like a dessert) she will sometimes insist I get an extra. Count your blessings. You have no idea of her struggle to consume proper nutrition. If we ask for items, they tend to break what could be say on 2 plates into 5. It does become a problem to carry. Of course we consolidate items ourselves when we get to cabin. Apparently it is the CL way to do things. Her issues are even more severe than on earlier cruises where they always delivered the items to the cabin. So I want to be prepared to handle this onboard if RCCL does not do things like the other CL did. She tends to be quite independent and will spend her time taking care of her own needs while insisting I go about enjoying cruise. A way for her to carry items while on her scooter, or a way for me to stack items in a bag if I am with her for transporting to cabin would be helpful. Just dealing with the reality. Do not want to be placing food in zip locks etc..., while others are enjoying a meal, or end up dropping food in the elevator. She will have to gather the items she needs from more than one place unfortunately.

  8. Wondered if anyone has seen a bag that will carry RCCL food plates with lids. Special diets mean some food will be ordered a day before at lunch or at dinner for next days breakfast etc... On NCL, CCL and X they would not let us carry to the items to our cabin ourselves. They insisted on staff delivering to our cabin fridge for us- we did not ask this of them. Cannot, and do not expect RCCL to do so, as we did not expect the others to do it. From experience they tend to break things down into separate plates (where could be put on fewer) and fear that this will not be easy for DW to manage to carry on a scooter and I will not always be with her when arranging for needed items. Has anyone seen a bag that will easily carry pates with lids? The way they divide items on plates might even be clumsy for me to carry to cabin. Yes we will be bringing things like zip lock bags, plastic wrap, and plastic containers with us. RCCL may assist as others did but want to be prepared and spare others having to travel in elevators with clumsily carried food.

  9. We have OBC credits coming from RCCL Visa that will not appear yet. If we make discount bookings for items RCCL is sending in email at a discount, will those charges later be subtracted from that increased OBC that will show up later from my RCCL Visa? We did not set up our onboard spending account to that same RCCL Visa account but I could likely change that if needed.

  10. Depends on the ship. I’ve been on some ships where if you log in a second device it automatically kicks the first device off.

Anyone know if this is the case with the Allure? And if you buy a 4 device plan do you get 4 different codes so give one to each cabin or technically could one cabin be hogging all 4 devices at a time. Likely we would need for communicating during the day to find each other, Do most just use phone for text or do email? Wouldn't want to tell others that if someone log in it would log someone off in case left another device logged in if not the way it worked. Since Allure does not have IQ app need someway to find each other as ship so large.

  11. Went through the old fashioned rabies shots in abdomen as a child. Left me with no desire to own one myself and when son had such a severe allergy to dogs that if we even drove into the driveway (never left car) of friends who had dog he would turn blue, sealed the deal. I respect the need for real service dogs. We have to have medical documentation to get DW meds on flights, and med documentation to my special dietary items on Flights and on ship. How can they get away with no documentation?

  12. I do not understand why you keep bringing up the length of time of chair was abandoned vs others. If I wait around for 30 minutes, I'm going to pick a spot....not try to figure out which chairs were unattended for 30-45 minutes and which one for 2 hours. I don't know, all I know is there is no where for me to sit and I'd like to lounge around too. But like others have said, I don't think anyone is considering people in the pool as hogging a chair...so in that case your scenario doesn't apply.

And please, don't blaspheme Christianity by trying to use it as a way to get others to show you mercy for breaking the rules. WOW! I can't believe you said that. You go on and on about how "mad" having your towel moved would make you...and adding that you DO NOT CARE about how others feel. Does that sound like the answer to WWJD?

These viscous board are a hoot! The only thing I stated I did not care about, is how someone feels about us not wanting to go around remove others towels in chairs after 30 minutes. I do not care about what you do. I am not playing it holier than thou. Fact is, on a previous cruise, with same family group (all us of the same faith) this question came up how we would deal with issue. I wasn't going to attempt going out for more than a ride around due to situation. An adult brought up removing towels that had been there a long time and a 10 year old grandson piped up exactly what you said WWJD and that he did not think it would be nice. Now after a 10 year old pipes up for all to hear, we adults had to come up with a solution we ALL could live with.I was extremely proud of my grandson when he said this. Yes, he doesn't truly understand how sad the chair hog situation is. But we adults would rather err on his side than the other. He will grow up and see how unfair the world is soon enough. By the way, for next cruise that 10 year old as well as 11 year old grandson has volunteered to sit vigil in those 2 seats with son and son in law. I do not mind being led by a little child. We are not breaking any rule whatsoever. I am not saying you are either. Not my place to judge you. RCCL needs a better system. Rather than tearing apart someone breaking no rule, your energy would be better spent offering a solution. BTW, I have had items stolen from pool deck on 2 different cruises.

I am now sailing on- this thread is too far off point.

  13. A week ago on the Allure, it was salmon, cat fish, swordfish on the three nights we asked.

We tried the salmon one night and it was really good. Most cruise ship fish is over cooked and then dried as it is held for service. This salmon was perfectly cooked and very moist.

Don't show me that. It makes it even harder to do w/o the salmon onboard. Hate that all they serve is farm raised. To those who say give up all fish. I have had to give up too many items. I love fish and all seafood. I will only give up those that cause a problem and farm raised or "Atlantic " salmon is it because of the food they feed them and fake food coloring which I have a big issue with. Thanks to all that replied with ideas about types of fish served. I kept seeing fish of the day while salmon often on the menu and wondered what kinds of fish the fish of the day might be. Hopefully since some may be special prepared, I may get something edible. At home I eat salmon once a week at least but wild caught Pacific salmon.

  14. Usually there is another type of fish on the menu also, but, who knows how and where they are raised. How can you know that they will be any safer than the salmon. Tilapia is a perfect example. Its the common name for about a 100 species of freshwater cichlid fish. Lord only knows what you might be eating! and from where!

Had some very tasteless tilapia in my time. But it never gave me hives or caused my face to swell as farm raised salmon does every time a restaurant claims it is wild caught< I eat, react then DW insists on seeing the proof and always has been labeled Alaskan or farm raised Salmon.

  15. We sailed on 2 brand new NCL ships. Never saw more miserable crew anywhere. It was actually depressing. Guest services and hotel management were just rude even if you had a severe cabin issue as we did, they would look at it, promise to fix, do nothing, except send Champagne (though knew we do not drink). While so many working cabins were empty.

Food was actually the best we'd had on any cruise.

But after the cruise staff and hotel management issues felt the ceiling could be falling on our head and they simply would not care. I observed on deck during a major activity a group of several of the crew stood by taking amongst themselves while an elderly woman took a bad fall (bleeding from head and both knees) due to a cable they had left unsecured across a walkway on the deck. They all looked her way as she lay there bleeding and did nothing. Not one moved to help her up or assist in any way. She had to be aided by other passengers who glared at the crew.We also had to pitch a fit to get them to fix that cable before anyone else tripped over it. This was the type of thing that went on everywhere on the ship.

Have to mention that we only went on the second NCL cruise because had enough earned enough points that it was totally paid for. We said to ourselves that surely there was no way next cruise could be like the last. But after the second try at NCL said never again. Miss the food.

  16. From MDR menus posted see fish of the day most days. Wanted to get some idea what this typically might mean on the Allure. As on special diets and dealing with special needs and have a sous chef assigned to us onboard, had no idea if this is likely to be a fish that could be prepared to meet our needs or is merely a pre battered fish fish filet at worst.

  17. My first several cruises in the 90s had no auto tips in place- we used envelops (not RCCL). How did these hidden people everyone claims need to get their share of tips who were never mentioned back then get their tips back then? Or did they receive tips back then? Is this a new invention? I have paperwork from every cruise ever been on and when discussing tips they made no mention of those persons.

We auto tip and tip extra. The only time I removed money from an auto tip and self distributed my tip is because we became very aware that the room stewards on our cruise were at the time not receiving their tips and being treated like slaves and were in a dire situation. They gave us great service despite what terrible service we received from the cruise line who refused to fix extreme problems in our cabins or move us to empty cabins which they had plenty of. We would not have been as aware of what was going on had not members of our group spoken several European languages and once we overheard we made it our business to find out what was going on. It is a cruise line I prefer not to sail on any longer due to their habits. If I feel those who serve me well are being cheated and guest relations and their staff who did nothing to fix the issues that practically ruined our cruise, I then will take it into my own hands to pass out cash and even give part out earlier in the week to try to make sure those that are serving us get to keep it. I hope that this was an isolated incident and the cruise lines do not so mistreat their staff in this way but I have heard rumors. Those that serve should get their fair share. I did enjoy passing out envelops when that was the policy. I still do so for extra amts for those who contribute to our enjoyment during our cruise. I am one who does question some of the truthfulness of what the cruise lines states happens to those auto tips. But I doubt we will ever know for sure that is one reason based out of other countries.

  18. Flying into MIA and cruising from Port Everglades arriving night before and staying near the port. Considering Lyft, Uber and other shuttles. Does anyone know the amount of luggage each type of transportation type will take for 2 people in party and where cut offs are. Do not want to call car and find will not take luggage. Not heavy packers, but must travel with some medical luggage also. Will have to reverse process on debarkation day and go from Port Everglades back to MIA. Thanks!
